I bought this kit as I wanted to see whether embroidery was for me as well as get some practice with a few of the basic stitches. As the kit says, it includes everything you need to get started - an embroidery hoop, scissors, a needle threader, a seam ripper, four needles, four cloths with printing, and a LOT of embroidery floss (I ended up with a fair amount extra of each color.) None of the stuff is super high quality...which is expected for a $20 kit. (I suspect that I'm going to replace the scissors and hoop at some point since, y'know, why not?) But it does have EVERYTHING. The instructions were clear and also included links to videos that I could watch if I was having trouble with a stitch (@#$# french knots, @#$#). So that was helpful and useful. I also liked that there was a fair range of stitches (I think they said 29, but three were repeats) included, so I felt like I learned a lot. The instructions also clarified when someone might use one type vs. another. I also liked that, once I'd finished them, I had them "saved" on cloth to reference. My embroidery, of course, didn't turn out as good as featured in the pictures...which wasn't unexpected. (I mean, I'm a total amateur.) But I think I did okay. Regardless, if embroidery is something you're interested in trying, I feel like this kit is a good value for money, easy to follow, and pretty helpful. So definitely recommended. ... show more

absolute beginners will need other sources of instruction. for example the pamphlet describes separating out a single thread from the floss but no mention of how to keep it from becoming a giant knot when you do it (I found youtube videos to help me get out of the mess mentioned cutting a shorter length to help avoid this ) making my attempt to learn embroidery unnecessarily frustrating. I've purchased a book to learn from now. But despite this I will finish the kit and keep it because it is not only practice but shows the order of stitches numbered so I can later recall the difference between similar stitches such as the back stitch vs the outline stitch. All the other items, needles, hoop, etc, seem normal/good quality. ... show more

I’ve wanted to learn how to embroider for quite sometime so I gave in and purchase this set. Package came with everything described and plenty of floss. I began to read the booklet and noticed there were a few inaccurate descriptions. The videos also don’t match all of the examples in the book. For example, How to End A Stitch in the booklet and video are two very different instructions and the example in the book did not work no matter how many times I tried. The video was a bit hard to follow as well. If you’re a beginner like I am, I would purchase a separate how to guide and not rely on what’s included here. ... show more

I bought this to start learning the stitches and to practice embroidery, and I'm incredibly pleased. The tools it gives you are great, and the instructional handbook is SO helpful. The only thing I don't like is having to pull the floss from the threads (it's annoying) but I think that's just a thing with embroidery as a whole so it's not a flaw I attribute to this product. Overall would highly recommend to anyone who wants to start learning to embroider! ... show more
