I am a hardcore Shure guy and used to own 2 CentraVerse Podium Mics. I sold them when I semi-retired. Recently, I got a call here at the retirement community to provide sound for an event that required a podium mic. I figured I'd just buy another Shure but was shocked to see that they basically doubled in price to $299 apiece! I read the reviews on the BOYA and I figured that for only $62.00 I would give it a shot. How bad could it be? To my surprise it was not only well made and better looking than the Shure but it SOUNDED BETTER THAN THE SHURE!!! I liked that you plug your XLR cable directly into the base and not have that annoying internally connected thin XLR that comes with the Shure. As far as the LED light on the base and the mic goes, they are dim and don't upset the applecart at all. Plus, from a distance I can see that the mic is on. Be aware that this unit requires phantom power and has an on/off button on the base. It worked like a charm the minute I set it up and I got more compliments on how great everything sounded! Don't waste your money on more expensive units. This one is well made and sounds great!!

Picks up well even if your mouth is 12 inches away. On/off switch does not produce a loud pop which is good. My use is via phantom power rather than battery but for some reason the phantom power-only model is priced higher.

So rare that a product is "cable not included" or uses a weird non-standard cable that nobody would have on hand. This mic fails in both cases. Pretty annoyed to find I have to go back and order a separate cable for something that should just be USB-C like everything else.

I have used Shure gooseneck mic before. I needed additional one and I did not wanted to spend new higher price of Shure gooseneck that I had bought previously. I am glad I bough this one because sound quality is equal if not better. My only complaint is it says 18" long but when I compared side by side with Shure 18" gooseneck it was longer at least by 2 to 3 inch if not more. So, I am not sure how BOYA measures 18" ? I love the On/Off switch on my model with light indicator; which my Shure does not have. It's an excellent troubleshooting feature to know if mic is getting power or not and the fact that mic is on. I highly recommend this product but make sure to get the correct model, GM18CB There is another model, GM18C; which one of my friend bought and I tried it out and it does not work well. That model had blue color neck just before end of mic. One minor issue I noticed when one specific individual talks there is follow up base hissing sound. Not sure why that is happening. But, same mic another individual uses to lecture and it works perfect.

This mic as nice tone and picks up a person speaking well. The problem I have is that the base is not isolated well. Anything hitting the podium or table that it is sitting on will be picked up by the mic. So I always put foam underneath it to help dampen the noise for the surface it is sitting on. It also has a problem with picking up "P" pops. The foam mic cover does not stop them. I am trying to come up with a solution for that problem. The "P" pops are worse in the speakers than they are in the recording, but you can still hear them.

Just what I needed. Longer gooseneck than most other desktop microphones, so you can place it behind your keyboard and it's still long enough without blocking the monitor. I use voice recognition software and this has been the most accurate so far, even better than those $500 dictaphones from Nuance. The USB cable makes it super easy to use, simply plug it in to your computer and it's good to go, no need for any batteries or adapters etc.

Simple- Excellent. Wanted an easy to use, flexible, high quality sound mic with a solid base for use on different podiums and the BOYA delivered on all fronts. The condenser mic is one of the very best I've ever used, and I've used a lot. Can't beat it at this price point! I bought and tested several in this price range and this one was hands down the best. It breaks down and stores in its' box easily / nicely. Battery life is good, but be sure to always carry extras! It will not slip off podiums. It has a simple lighted on-off button. I have run with various PA speakers and it works great. I waited to write this review for 6 months and all is still excellent. In fact I think after seeing it in action a number of other people have purchased as well.

I have revised my earlier review, which was in error. I thought the mic was defective, but it wasn't. The amplifier I was using had an unusual way of turning on the phantom power this condenser mic needs to operate (you could only turn it on with the companion phone app, not the amp itself.) When I was able to turn on the amplifier phantom power for that channel with the app, the mic worked fine. My only issue was the slight pop when you pressed the button to mute the mic, but otherwise, it worked as designed. I have changed my rating from one star to four stars. They lost the fifth star because the Boya website does not offer any useful help, in my opinion. Clicking on the manual download icon renders you nothing, so I could not troubleshoot the mic. There is no Q&A section. The simple instructions that come with it are useless. When I clicked on chat, I got a bunch of Chinese in response. The numbers to call apparently are Chinese as well. Fortunately, when I figured out how to work the phantom power, the mic worked, but I sure hope it keeps working because getting support from the company on this device if it gives you trouble is a long shot.
