Description

This Coil Roofing Nailer has a durable aluminum housing and a one-door loading system for fast reloading. The roofing nailer has a dry-fire lock out to prevent dry firing and to alert the user to reload the magazine. Depend on this roofing nail gun for durability and comfort. From the Manufacturer No nailer does everything, but the Bostitch RN46-1 3/4-Inch to 1-3/4-Inch Coil Roofing Nailer comes close. Stop at any construction site and watchas the roofers fly through their job with ease. Chances are, they are using the no. 1 roofing nailer in the business--the RN46-1. This little tank is built to last even under extreme job conditions. Bostitch makes sure by dragging it 75-miles across asphalt shingles in its testing labs. Constructed of tough but light magnesium, the RN46-1 weighs only 4.8-pounds and delivers 410-inch-pounds of torque, and it comes with unique features like a single- action side-load canister that is quick and easy to load; a dry-fire lockout so it won't fire when it runs out of nails; carbide inserts wherever it might contact a work surface; skid-resistant pads; a tool-less shingle guide; and an adjustable-depth dial and an over-molded rubber grip.

  • So far so good
It's early days for me. I've only run about 1 case of nails (7,000 nails) through it, but it's awesome so far. I love it. The gun did jam one time, and when it did, it was a real doosey to get it un-jammed. But, I'm pretty sure I know *why* it jammed. My guys aren't real careful with the nail spools before putting them in the gun, sometimes storing them in their pockets, and I'm willing to bet the little copper wires holding the nails together were a bit bent, causing two of the nails to be too close to one another, and at the wrong angle to one another. The gun managed to get two nails at once into the firing chute, and really blasted them into one another. I had to knock the breach (the magazine -- also how you load this gun) with a hammer to get it open. But, the safety mechanism worked perfectly, and once it jammed, it wouldn't fire again until I got it cleared out. Once I managed to get the breach open, I just pried out the old nails with a screwdriver, pushed the piston back up, and there was no sign of any damage on the hardened steel mechanism. It worked flawlessly after that. I'm not super thrilled with the "black" trigger design (as opposed to the "gray" trigger). It DOES work the way a roofing nailer is supposed to work (depress the trigger first, then fire on bump), but sometimes I try to use the gun in a more precise way (like when I'm installing drip-edge), and position the nail accurately by depressing the safety first, THEN pulling the trigger. Good luck with that! Very often I end up double, or even triple firing. The trigger is just not made to be multipurpose. It's made for bump fire, not single fire. It'd be nice if it did both -- but that would probably be a way more complex (and expensive) design! I would buy this gun again if I needed another roofing nailer. In fact, I did! Now I've got two of them, and they both work great. ... show more

  • Great - But Could Have Been Excellent - Not Site Ready
You can tell from all the other rave reviews that this gun is top-notch, so I'll only comment on why I did not give it full 5 stars (Not Site Ready)... 1. Does not come with the air hose connector. If you're a professional you have a bunch of these in your tool bag; if you're a DIY'er doing your first roof or switching to a new gun you might not. There is no real excuse for not providing the connector. 2. Does not come with even a sample amount of lubricant. Unless you have other tools that require the same lubricant you probably don't have this in your toolbag, and they recommend a couple drops at least once a day (depending on use of course). 3. No case? Good grief. I know this thing is made of tough parts, but all air tools need a case not only for protection but so you can keep all of the extras together with the tool (e.g., lubricant, users guide, etc.). And it needs a box to it can go on the shelf in the garage nice and neat. 4. Description says the RN46-1 has two modes - contact and sequential. NO - the RN46-1 is contact only; the RN46-2 is sequential. Other reviews have pointed this out, but the description has not been updated. I've seen this same wrong product description on multiple sites so it came from the manufacturer that way. All of my Cable Porter air tools have a simple trigger switch to "convert" between the two - the Bostitch is one or the other forever. Since I generally do small jobs (not a professional) I usually go conservative with sequential mode to avoid accidents (have not shot myself yet :-). That said, this gun really moves through shingles fast so I'm good with it - just have to be careful about pulling that trigger unintentionally. (oh, and I did not buy the CP nailer for this job because it had more reviews about "jamming" which is unacceptable - I have not had any jamming issues with my other CP nailers, though). 5. (this is just a comment) - the gun I received is orange, not yellow. The pictures show a DeWalt yellow gun, but the one I received is definitely orange. Does not effect performance ;-) In fact, it makes it easier to find this tool among all my DeWalt drills and such. The CP air tools are all bland black and metal which can make them difficult to find at a glance. ... show more

  • Easily handled my needs re-roofing my home. I cannot attest for commercial use.
I bought two of these to do my roof. They worked well. I am not a contractor/construction worker, so I have only one question about it. It required a few drops of oil each day. It was a very hot 4 days, going slowly. Is this normal or not, I don't know. The manual clearly states the need for the frequency of oiling. One more thing to consider is that it does not come with the required nipple for the air hose. So make sure you get one if you don't have one. We had some already (my brother). We used a couple small, home model compressors, just to be sure of enough power for each. But it wasn't necessary. Each compressor had plenty of left over air to run both. We found this out by accident when we needed another tool (circular saw). We pulled the AC extension cable from one of the compressors to power the saw, cutting power to the compressor. We continued nailing with the other gun, so we thought. About 15 minutes later of continuous nailing the gun started to malfunction. After checking oil and the nails we traced it to we had been using the gun connected to the un-powered compressor. We were running off the little tank air tank for 15 minutes. I am talking a small tank. The whole compressor can be easily picked up with one hand. I am 55 and have some significant spine damage. My right arm is affected by it, causes loss of strength. Yet being right-handed, that is the one I used to pick the compressor up. So it is by no means a big, heavy commercial model. This tells me that the Bostitch nail gun is well designed and is very efficient with how much air is needed to properly function. I don't know if it would hold up under professional use, but for me it was easy to use and got the job done. ... show more
