Definitely has a learning curve. As long as you take time it can do alot things. They should put power cord in the package, instead it has to be bought separately. Have not tried the battery power. Now the me-90 is coming out.

I've used a Boss GT3 for years. When it came time to replace it. Boss was the only option I considered. I picked up a Boss ME-80. Very versatile and user friendly processor. I play everything from light rock/country/instrumental to thrash/speed metal. The only drawback is that it doesn't come with a power cord. I understand and enjoy the flexibility of batteries but prefer to be plugged right in. The plug suggested on Amazon lasted about a month. Aside that. You really can't beat this unit for ease of use, features, or sound quality. True, some of the effects aren't quite exactly like the vintage analog boxes they emulate, but it's surprising how close they actually get. And most of the dozens of effects you can choose from are stellar. The internal routing is well thought out as well, with copies of some effects showing up in other areas just in case you want your phaser in front of your distortion. Very cool and compact, I feel like I've only scratched the surface after a couple of weeks. I especially like how in "manual" mode, it's like having eight discrete pedals at once, with all the controls just where you'd expect them with ZERO menu diving! ... show more

I've been playing for 30+ years, and I've never been much of a tone-head. I've messed around with other pedals before, mostly distortion, wah, and chorus. I thought it was time to 'grow up' and get a real pedal board. As I was shopping around, the ME-80 came across my recommendations, along with a few others. I suffer from choice paralysis when it comes to this stuff, so I didn't make a decision and just sat on it. Then I saw it in action. I was watching a reggae band live, and the guitar player was pretty solid and was switching between tones pretty fluidly. I checked out his rig and he had one of these babies, so I pulled the trigger and ordered it. In the interim, I watched a bunch of videos and read a ton of reviews. They were overall very positive with some toneheads lodging minor complaints about the modeling. With the pre-amp, eq/boost, and stomps alone it's worth the price of admission. Plus it has a decent wah/volume pedal built in. Plus, it's BOSS. Come on. You can't go wrong. I've always wanted compression, boost, overdrive, and mods in my chain but don't have the cash for those types of boutique effects. Plus this includes amp modeling...under $400. If you wanna get rid of all them stomp pedals and chords but don't wanna take away from the sound yo get with them....this is the right one to use. There's a stomp mode and memory mode. Memory made let's you make you're own stuff and stomp mode aka manual mode is just like having stomp pedals. I won't go back to stomp pedals to hats a fact ... show more
