  • Classic sounding distortion
Great tone for this class of pedal

  • Great sound, great price!
Perfect fuzz distortion that I was hoping to get from it. The price is amazing for a Boss stomp box. The only problem is that you’ll definitely want to get a power cord for it. I have the Boss Overdrive pedal and can go months on one battery. This one killed a new battery in 2 days.

  • Classic pedal distortion
My amp (Fender Blues Jr NOS) doesn't have an overdrive channel, so I was looking for something to add to it to give it a dirty sound. Yes, I realize that distortion and overdrive aren't quite the same thing, but I just wanted a different sound to come out of the amp. This pedal fits the bill. It isn't one of those expensive, boutique pedals, nor does it try to be. It's a basic distortion pedal with three settings (tone, level, distortion). It's been used over the years by many, many guitar players which you can find on your own with Google. I haven't been disappointed with the Boss DS-1. There is some nice crunch you can get out of the pedal and the distortion is pretty much what you'd expect - think "Smells like Teen Spirit" - Kurt Cobain was one of the many users of this pedal and was my inspiration to buy it. The nice thing about this bundle was it included a patch cable and an instrument cable, as well as a cloth to clean the guitar after playing it. The picks aren't really anything great and I'll probably never use it, but the two cables alone are quite useful and worth the extra $5 that I paid for the bundle. ... show more

  • Included accessories are cheap and nasty, but still worth the extra $10
The pictures show cables and such that are much higher quality than what actually comes with this kit. That being said, they still work fine, and it's nice to have and extra instrument cable and patch cable. The pics are Fender Mediums, not a variety. The instrument cable is the type with a metal spring for strain relief, and they are rebuildable if they fail, unlike many cheap cables. The patch cable is of the cheap, floppy type you can't fix if it breaks, however. As for the pedal itself, it's a Boss DS-1, you can find reviews of that thing all over the place. But what you don't mentioned much is that they have changed in build quality over the years, and the new ones that this kit comes with is actually much less chunky and durable feeling than DigiTech pedals. It's worth noting that the DS-1 doesn't use the same nice switch and case that the more expensive boss pedals use, although for the price that's to be expected. Also, the fact that it's just a tone knob is rather frustrating, especially considering this pedal appears to be fairly agnostic of what kinda eq you put in before the pedal. Treble and bass knobs would be a huge improvement. ... show more

  • Satisfied with purchase
This pedal is great! All you need to do is hook it up and you're good to rock. It has a nice distortion sound that isn't too harsh, and while it only can really do variations on one sound, it's some of the best sound I've heard. The only problem is that this thing eats battery, so I'd recommend getting the one with the power adapter, or purchasing one separately (they go for like $10). All in all, this pedal is great for fans of the Nirvana-like distortion sound, or really any heavier punk sound. ... show more

  • Killer Pedal, Poor Luck
I got this pedal on Wednesday and instantly fell in love. This pedal is absolutely kick-ass! But, earlier today (Saturday), the pedal stopped working. Customer service offered me $15 at first, $20 after that, then some random pedal to replace it. I kept telling them that I wanted a full refund, but they simply wouldn't give me one. It really sucks. But, hey, this pedal is amazing if you end up with a working one! ... show more

  • The DS-1 is 5 STARS
Great pedal, it really makes a great sound and feels nice and sturdy for rugged use, when i switch on overdrive on the amp and use both effects it sounds fantastic. The cables included are nice, and come in handy if you own more pedals. the picks are not the typical material of a pick, its a cheaper material but still cool though. ... show more
