  • It's a Bosch
Style: 1.0 HP Variable Speed Router
Simple trim router. Works great, easy to use, easy to change bits. Obviously, not suitable for use as a bench router.

  • Awesome
Style: 1.0 HP Variable Speed Router
Soft start is great, everything works as intended. Grip is ergonmic and comfortable, adjustable speed is great. Ease of use with micro adjustments so far is good. Only works with 1/4 shanks so its a great tool for small projects, if trying to cut alot of material at once buy the bosch 1617 with 1/4 1/2 shank. This is for dados biscuits and smaller projects ... show more

  • Solid and useful
Style: 1.0 HP Variable Speed Router
I use this product almost exclusively with a 45° chamfer but for the edges of plywood boards, and it’s working very well. The machine is solid and weighty enough to allow it to be easy to handle, but not so heavy it’s hard to use. It runs well and does not get hot, and the face plate is smooth and doesn’t leave scratches in my wood. A few things that don’t work perfectly - saw dust gets very easily trapped between the face plate and the body of the router. This isn’t a problem for functionality yet, but eventually I will have to clean it out before it starts to prevent accurate results. Also, the measuring system is not completely precise. There is a “micro-measuring” adjustment knob that helps to get things perfect, but it’s difficult to adjust the main measurement because of the twist-and-lock feature of the mechanism. Overall, I use it and it accomplishes what I need just fine. If I needed something very precise, I would probably spend extra to get a machine that could do it, but this router is a great price and works well for precise, but not overly precise, projects. ... show more

  • Works great
Style: 1.0 HP Variable Speed Router
Works great, runs quiet. Easy to handle. Being small, it's sometimes hard to get to the collet but that's the only downside I've found. Has plenty of power for most jobs.

  • Nice router
Style: Variable Speed Palm Router with Installe...
I have used this router now for about 4 months. I was a little sceptical on spending the money for this kit since there are cheaper kits available. I was also a bit concerned about spending the money for this since my only purpose was to do some laminate trimming but I didn't want to use my much larger router for the delicate work. Well, I have not been disappointed with this machine and its attachments. The first thing I noticed upon turning it on is the soft starting. I have never had a piece of equipment with this ability. I does not twist your arm or wrist when starting like a lot of other routers. I do not know if it is worth spending extra money if offered separately but it is sure nice when the joints are a little sore. Its size is a definite plus when doing the fine laminate trimming and cutting out hinge recesses, etc - it does fit in the palm of my hand and I am able to do most things with holding the router in one hand and holding the working item with the other hand. It also variable speed settings but I have not used these yet. The router base has some recesses that are nice to place one's thumb in when needing to stabilize the router when cutting corners or angles, etc. The base does get warm after using it awhile but not hot. The regular base has a large opening so one can see from the top side of how the cutting bit is behaving with the working material. The accessory bases are very nice to have available. They can be exchanged very easily with just moving the lever to the open position on each base and then aligning the arrows on the base and router. One of the bases' levers was too tight from the factory but that was easily fixed with just loosening the lever one turn. I have found the angled base and the close quarters (offset) base are great to have when cutting angles and tight spots. The close quarter base probably gets the cutting bit within 3/4 to one inch from a wall or similar type of blocking item. This base utilizes a small, strong belt (similar to the newer vacuum cleaner kevlar belts) to get its offset ability. I have not used the undercutting guide yet. I must have read the manual over 5 times in that section before I finally understood how to use it. Basically, this guide is used for cutting a piece of laminate or wood when replacing or fixing a countertop, table top, flooring, or similar type of item. It uses the edge of the good piece of wood/laminate as a guide for cutting the new piece of wood/laminate so it will have a nice tight fit with minimal amount of a joint type of appearance. I know this will come in handy some day for that one unique project. I am extremely happy with this router. Changing bits and bases is extremely easy almost fun. I probably wouldn't buy this router without the extra bases since they make it earn its place in my tool cabinet. ... show more

  • The router for the rest of us.
For years I have looked at routers and been intimidated by them and not sure exactly what I would want to do with one. They were always big, heavy, and unwieldy. The Bosch Colt is a delight and a lot of value for the money. The soft start is great as there is no jerk at all when you turn it on. It is light in weight and easy to handle yet powerful for it's size. I got a set of 24 router bits from Holbren for a very affordable price to use with it that comes with a great assortment of bits. I have used it with the finishing bit and bits for edge forming. On my first try with a Roman ogee bit I had a great edge on a test piece of 1x4 pine and did the same with cove and round over bits. It can also use Rotozip bits though I would not want to use it in wallboard just because I don't want all the plaster dust to get all inside of it. Look at the pictures in the description of it and you will get a good idea of what you typically would use it for. It is typical Bosch quality in rugged construction, high performance for size, engineering, and ergonomics. If you are like me and were always curious about a router but found them heavy and intimidating then try the Bosch Colt. I can't imagine that most anyone would not find a good use for it if you work at all with wood whether as a budding woodworker, or home improvement enthusiast. ... show more
