  • Great tool except for vertical use
I bought this product one month ago and have used it quite a few times. It is very nice to use for laying out tile or laying out carpet squares, tile squares etc. the sticky putty it comes with to stick it to the wall is not very good. That can't be a Bosch design, my unit as fallen off the wall several times. I have broken one vile and broken the tip off the Square. That is very disappointing. I know the older units came with a metal plate and then in place of the sticky putty it had magnets. But you have to mount the metal plate for that to work so I'm not sure which is best. I would like to see something better for vertical mounts but have no idea what. The unit is very inexpensive for the time it can save you on any job. I will deal with the vertical problem to take advantage of such a great tool. ... show more

  • Versatile
I originally bought this Laser Square as an aid for aligning an automobile front recognition camera system, and quickly realized what a versatile tool this is. Install the batteries, turn it on, and you will see how many applications you can come up with. This is a very good, sturdy, all around laser to have, very intuitive to use, even if all you do is hanging pictures on the wall, and the price is reasonable. Besides having utilized it for some high tech applications, I have used it for hanging decorations on the wall, aligning seats & tables, and writing straight on blank paper (yes, it is that versatile). In my opinion, it is a must have item in any tool kit. ... show more

  • Does the job well.
Pros: - Works as expected. The dual laser levels really make it easy to level an object both vertically and horizontally. - Comes with a sample of blue putty for attaching to walls. Cons: - It feels a bit flimsy and could be better built for how much it costs. Summary: I was pleasantly surprised with this item and I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a laser level for office or home use. I used mine to hang a whiteboard in my office and my coworker's office. Thanks to the dual laser levels it was extremely easy to align the whiteboards both vertically and horizontally. I was also very happy with the included putty because I was able to attach it to a wall right away. However I think there's still some room for improvement in the build quality so I've decided to give it 4 out 5 stars. ... show more

  • OK unit, but dim
As expected, this low-price unit, has a pretty dim output. Would work fine indoors and for a small project. Say bathroom tiling or perhaps quilting. If using on a full floor construction type project, you have to use reflectors beyond anything about 6-10 feet. The real value of a floor line laser, is to get that continuous visible line on the floor, not to have to find it by hand. The unit has some leveling feet, but they were not intuitive, and I didn't take the time to decipher. ... show more

  • invaluable
My son bought a new home, 310K, ripped out all the carpet and old tile. Wanted my help to put down 1200 feet of new tile. "NOT WITHOUT A NEW LASER"! I bought this one and not a moment of regret. 30+ feet of beam, easy and it hits the front of each spacer many feet away as well as the cement between the tiles along the way. Perfect 90ยบ and we were able to match seams between rooms with doors on two walls opening to halls and the kitchen within a fraction of an inch. Well worth the price of admission. Now if it just came with knee pads ';-) ... show more

  • It does the job....painstakingly.
I got this to help me with a big painting project, but I have returned it since. The device itself is supposed to adhere to the wall via some putty that is supplied. It stuck to the wall, but the device is heavy and I was constantly worried that it would fall. I ended up holding it while my girlfriend taped the wall. Perhaps it wouldn't have fallen, but I was very nervous. Also, because it's so big and heavy, I found it annoying to tilt/adjust it to get the straight line on the wall. This would probably not be an issue if it was laying down. I ended up buying a single laser light with a single bubble gauge instead, which I think would work better for my purposes. ... show more

  • Poorly designed or mine had defects in BOTH major components.
I didn't have high expectations for this product because it is, after all, a $30-ish item, and most laser tools cost more than that. I'm doing an extensive master bath remodel in my home and wanted a simple laser tool that I could use on the floor and attach to walls to help me with tile layout. This square looked like it would be sufficient for that task, giving me both horizontal and vertical laser "chalk lines" and built-in bubble levels to square them with the room. What I found, however, within about ten minutes of removing the Bosch GTL2 Laser Square from the package, was that it couldn't adequately do any of that. None of it. It was essentially worthless to me. Here are the problems/observations that caused me to immediately return it to Amazon: 1. The Lasers - The laser "chalk lines" (the main purpose of the tool) couldn't be seen on the surface past two to four feet in normal indoor lighting. I tried floors, counters, and walls in two different rooms with lights on and off. With lights off in a dim room, I could see the line for about five or six feet. However, regardless of the lighting, I could always see a clear, bright line several inches long on the wall towards which the laser was pointing, even when the wall was 15' away. This made it obvious that the problem was that the laser was tilted slightly away from the surface instead of slightly toward it. I found that if I lifted the opposite side of the square about 1/4" off the surface, so that the laser would be pointed more toward the surface, it would give me a clear, bright line all the way across the room. Both lasers were the same. So, to get both lines clear I would have to prop up two of the three sides of the triangle by 1/4". But then doing that would skew the angles of those lines, making them no longer truly vertical and horizontal. I can only assume that the tool I got was defective. Surely this can't be by design. 2. The Levels - The bubbles in the built-in spirit levels were way too small, making the levels terribly imprecise. I've owned and used many bubble/spirit levels over the years, and I've never had one that the size of the bubble didn't exactly fit between the lines on the tube. That's how you know your tool is level, when each side of the bubble exactly touches the lines on each side. In this case, one of the levels had a gap of about 1/16" on either side of the bubble and the other level had a gap of a full 1/8" on both sides when centered! So, rather than getting the device level by simply filling the gap with the bubble, you have to meticulously estimate whether or not you have exactly the same amount of space between the bubble and line on either side of it. As with point 1 above, surely this can't be by design. I again have to assume that the one I got was defective in this area, too. 3. Attaching to Walls - The tool has two spring-loaded buttons on top of it that are really just little, recessed plungers that extend all the way through it to the back. The package includes some tacky putty (labeled that it is for removing lint from clothing) that you can then stick to the plungers on the back and press into place by pushing the buttons on the front when you get the tool into the position you want on the wall. The whole idea seems a little silly, but that's just my opinion. I suppose some may like that method. I'd prefer magnets, a mounting plate, nail holes, or some other method. Conclusion: Either the device I received was defective in BOTH of its major components (the lasers and the levels) or it was very poorly designed. In either case, I won't be taking the risk on getting another one; I'm just getting a refund and I'll try a different tool. EDIT: FYI, the included manual says that the device is accurate to 1/2" in 30'. I find that pretty bad, considering that the majority of laser-leveling devices I've looked at state they are accurate to within 1/8" at 30'. Some say accurate to within 1/4" in 30'. So that means this device is 2-4 times less accurate than the others, and it isn't even self-leveling. ... show more
