2 1/2 years later, still working perfectly. I had to charge up some cheap no name brand batteries (dead on arrival) for 50 solar lamps. The charge takes and lasts forever, maybe one battery blinks out every 6 months, but that's the battery's fault. The red/green lights never falter, the unit doesn't get hot. I recently purchased the BONAI AA AAA Battery Charger, and I have to say, it’s been a game changer for my household. Love this simple, plug in, set it and forget it charger! I've had several rechargeable batteries over a decade old and I couldn't tell if my charger was bad (it was, but some bays worked) or if it was my batteries just reaching end of life. This charger doesn't pretend it's charging - it blinks red if the battery is bad and I tried a few different bays and it was the same result. I also have a battery tester and confirmed the same - rechargeable batteries do reach end of life and a handful of mine already did.     • Nice charger overall - wish the LEDs showed progress of the charge state
This is the second charger I've owned for NiMH AA and AAA batteries. The one I've had for several years is a HiQuick, and the only reason I got this Bonai is because the HiQuick is 6-bay and needed more capacity. I like this charger, it feels solid, and the AC cord is a standard pronged plug on the outlet side, eliminating the need for a USB block in the wall. It has all the protections expected in a charger as well, and when I snap a battery in to a bay, the contact tolerances feel solid and sturdy - like it takes a little pressure to snap it, but it goes in nicely with real tension and hold, whether AAA or AA. Yet it's also easy to remove the battery even though they are held in firmly. It's just made nice that way. Some people have said it charges fast, some say it charges slow. The reason for the discrepancy is that the more batteries you have in it, the slower it charges, as it spreads its fixed load across all the batteries it's charging so the unit doesn't get too hot. If you only have in 2 batteries, they will charge faster (all else being equal) than if you load several. But another factor is that this is a trickle charger. Batteries that are trickle charged last longer than batteries that are given a fast charge. Older chargers might have faster charging algorithms (because people like fast for convenience) than newer chargers that employ the healthier trickle charging. But this will extend the life of your batteries, including charging cycles, and is also potentially safer than fast charging. The only reason I took a star off is because the bay's LCDs do not show how depleted a battery is, or how close it is to being fully charged. It's either red (charging) or green (charged). On my HiQuick charger, each bay's LED was composed of a 'stack' of 4 green bars... 1 bar lit meant the battery was low, 2 or 3 meant it was still being charged, then when it hit 4 bars, the light stopped flashing, stayed solid, and was fully charged. It was nice to glance at it and be able to see what state the charging process was in. But that's a subjective con. The LEDs on this ARE bright, and one final con imo is they stay lit even when the bays are empty. This is a waste of electricity (little as it is) and can also be distracting if you have the unit in a bedroom or someplace you don't want the light. Will have to unplug it when not in use, which is kind of a hassle considering it would have been trivial to design it so they don't light unless the bay is being used. But overall I'm happy with the purchase, providing it lasts ... show more

It arrived undamaged, and the packaging was very nice as well. The quality of the charger looks solid and it uses a regular house plug, no flaky USB or USB-C charger. I love how you can charge 16 AA's at once, or 16 AAA's at once, or even mix them as I did in my photo. e.g., 8 AA's and 8 AAA's. Another bonus of this charger is that you don't have to pair them side by side, unlike most other chargers. You can literally leave spaces between batteries, and it will still work. Finally, I love how each row has a charging/charged light indicator (green/red) letting me know when each battery is either fully charged or charging. It took about an hour for the AAA's to charge and about 3ish hours for the AA's to charge. The longer charging time is normal due to the higher mAh rating of AA batteries. I definitely recommend this bad boy to anyone who needs a good battery charger! ... show more

I'm making this review because there seem to be a fair share of people who may not understand how this works. You can not recharge disposable batteries. You will have to purchase rechargeable batteries. I bought the same brand but any brand would work as long as they say "rechargable". Initially it took nearly 4 hours to charge everything. When fully charged, I disconnect it and use what I need. Often many onused batteries stay on the base but I do unplug it. When the batteries I'm currently using run out, I will replug it in and give about 20 mins or so to the batteries I haven't used just to give them a little boost from sitting unused. The batteries I have used will obviously take much longer to fully recharge. This base holds bot AA & AAA sizes. This is probably one of the most convenient and money saving items I've purchased on Amazon. It feels like such a shame that this product has some disappointing reviews for no fault of its own. I do recommend maybe the company add something that clarifies it does not recharge disposable batteries. It doesn't seem obvious to many people. I use a ton of batteries for interactive toys for my cats so they are used and switched out quite often. I am even ordering a 2nd one just for AA since I use those most. I like the 16 battery capacity. Recharges batteries overnight and batteries held the charge. I use the batteries in devices that are deployed for multiple weeks.
