Turns out cold brew is easy to make, but cleaning up is a pain in the rear. This French press style is super easy to clean with the help of a mesh strainer to catch the grinds. And the coffee turns out wonderfully.

I didn't buy this to be used for cold brewing. I just wanted a very big french press for making hot coffee, and this was cheap. So I'm using it "off-label" so to speak. After 1 year of use, here are my thoughts: Pros: The plastic has held up well to making hot coffee. I boil water in my electric kettle, dump it in this thing with the ground coffee in there, and let it sit for an hour, then press and drink. The amount of coffee it makes lasts me about 3 days. I rinse it out after each use, then throw it in the dishwasher every 3rd use or so. Con #1: At first, I was getting a lot of grounds in my coffee. I solved that by letting it sit for a bit before putting the lid/plunger on. I think once the grounds have absorbed the water, they press down more completely. Con #2: After a year of daily use, the plastic is stained, and I can't get it clear again. I think that is totally expected from plastic, but if you would be bothered by that, then you should pay the more than double price for a glass one. Con #3: The lid is a bit difficult to take off. There are multiple parts, and you kind of have to wiggle it off, and it always feels like I'm about to break the lid. On the plus side, I haven't actually broken it yet, and the seal is pretty tight when it's on. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. However, if it does break, I might replace it with a glass one. I'm no cold brew connoisseur, but I do drink a lot of it! I was tired of paying outrageous prices for cold coffee with a bit of whip in it so I decided to hunt down my own cold brew maker! This reminded me of my boyfriend's French press only on steroids. I immediately got it out of the box, washed it, added my favorite coffee and cold water. I put this bad boy in the fridge to watch the magic happen. After about 18 hours I figured it was good to go. I used the press top and it filtered the coffee grounds to the bottom. When I poured there was no coffee grind floaties! The flavor was strong, bold and smooth with none of the bitterness. Delicious! I added some chocolate whipped foam and it was perfect! Spent $17 and saved myself $200! I'd say that's a win win! 🏆 ... show more
