  • The Best CNC for your Money!
In short, if you are looking for a wood carving CNC then this is the one to get. I'm an EE with lots of circuit design experience and I did lots of research for this purchase. It wasn't easy to assemble.. well, ok it WAS easy but it did take quite a bit of time. The instructions were clear and there were no missing parts. Everything went together as expected. There were a few times when the instructions were a little vague but I was able to figure it out. I'm not going to dwell on the details, but as a newbie to CNC here are some things that I would have liked to know about my purchase: 1. You need to buy some router bits and a 1/4 to 1/8" collar. The bits are typically "end-mill" or "ball-end". I bought two sizes of each type 3mm and 6mm. The collar is needed because the router only takes a 1/4" bit. 2. You will need a dust collection system. I bought one for $160 from Harbor Freight. You will also need a very good quality hose. 3. You will need a dust 'boot'. Believe me, this is a 'must have'. It can make the difference between a room full of dust and almost no dust at all. Get one from Etsy, just search "Bob's CNC Dust Boot". 4. Eventually you will need a gCode sender device. This device feeds the CNC machine with gCodes from Aspire or whatever design software you are using. You CAN use your computer but it's much better to have a dedicated machine. I use a RaspberryPI with the program bCNC (yes, weird that the gCode sender has the same name) since I am very familiar with the machine and got up to speed quickly. Just do a Google search on "bcnc raspberry pi" and you'll find it. 5. You will need to change bits, and the dust shoe will get in the way of the router lock button. I found that you can drill a hole at just the right place and insert a 4-40 screw through the dust shoe and into a hole in the lock button. Instead of removing the dust boot I simply press this screw to lock the router shaft. Instead of using the flimsy and cumbersome router bit wrench I use a 'long' socket wrench that I made to fit the router collar. Now I can change bits in about 20 seconds. 6. Bob (THE Bob) is obviously a great engineer and businessman. I left him a message about adding an automatic switch for my router and dust collector and he answered promptly and professionally. I don't thing I've ever spoken to the actual designer of such a great product. If you want more details about my setup just send me a message; I'd be happy to share everything I've learned about BobsCNC. ... show more

  • Great machine
The media could not be loaded. On year #2 with the Evo 4. The machine has run with zero design issues only user issues. It's sturdy, and can take a beating, I put the extension on without any problems. Take your time and learn and respect the machine. Taking the leap from 2d to 3D relief engraving. This machine is precise. If you want a laser machine then get an entire laser machine separately. Don't modify this machine for lasers, totally different animal. I've seen so many post on speeds and feeds and chip ratio. Don't get sucked into this, use the Keep it simple approach. Your eyes and ears will tell you whats a good adjustment. Watch their video on feeds and speeds,It helped! My settings for 1/4 up or downcut endmill: 90/40/90/40 .090 on pass depth/ 40% stepover, feed @ 90"s a min plunge speed 40, Makita router speed@ 2 clicks past 3rd setting. Router stays cool, endmill doesn't over heat. Use Bob's gsender program.Game changer for me. I use gsender and my vectric software offline only. I had more odd problems running with Wi-Fi on. Still make sure you update as needed. But truly the machine ran better while running those programs offline. And lastly keep it simple with clamps. I exhausted so much time in research, designing, rigging and purchasing clamps, slots.. etc. Final solution= 3/4 plywood base cut to entire bed size and mount with deck screws and evey horizontal beam. Then get 3/4 mdf and cut with same dimensions. I drilled 1/4 diameter holes through mdf and plywood and used 1 3/4 1/4 x 20 bolts that were sunk 3/8 in mdf. Drill holes 2inch from the back at the y2 and y24 then at x20y2, x20y24, x48y2, x48y24. Bolt down from under cnc machine. Now I use 1 1/4 finishing nail on the 1/2x1/2 mark on of each corner of project wood. Make sure you not in cutting path of nail when making project. I onion skin profile paths then use my fingers to pull out project board with nails attached. Use 120 gritt sandpaper on the nail mounds created on mdf. 1.41" frog tape and super glue with spritz of rubbing alcohol can be used on small projects. I do this only if I use an upcut bit, as downcut but pulls wood up and its a little iffy. ... show more

  • Great product (if willing to put in the effort to assemble) and great customer service!
I bought this CNC based on my research comparing feature/ price ratio and customer reviews vs. other products in the market. Assembling it was more involved than I had planned for, but the user manual is very comprehensive and at the end well worth the effort when you see your machine come to life! I am still learning the basics, but so far I am very happy with it, performing without a hitch so far. BTW, the customer service is top notch: While staging the parts for the build I thought i am missing two parts and wrote to support - Bob and Pamela responded within a few hours and FedExed those parts overnight without any questions. It turned out that I had misplaced the parts and nothing was missing (i did offer to cover the cost but they refused - thank you!) ... show more
