  • Boat hook with extension for length of 1 foot to 10 foot
Makes a nice I can go anywhere like that. I want up to 10 feet long just what I need it.

  • Sturdy 3-12ft Telescoping Boat Hook: An asset on board, and handy around the house too.
I've been boating around the Puget Sound and up in the Cascades for years—Docking can be a real hassle in tight slips or when wind picks up on the Sound, especially solo. As a taller guy (6'1", around 250 lbs), I need gear that's sturdy enough to handle some real push and pull without flexing like a noodle. This Boat Hook with 3-12Ft Adjustable Extension Pole caught my eye through Vine—stainless steel hook, protective rubber tip to avoid gelcoat scratches, and that big range from compact 3 feet up to a full 12 feet extended. The threaded end lets you swap attachments if you want, but I stuck with the stock hook for docking lines, pushing off pilings, and grabbing fenders that drift just out of reach. Right out of the box, the build quality impressed me. The stainless steel feels marine-grade—solid, no cheap pot-metal vibes—and the rubber coating on the hook tip is a nice touch. I've nicked up hulls before with bare metal hooks, but this one glides without marking. The telescoping sections lock down tight with a good twist. We go out during our short crabbing seasons here and the length and hook on the end are fantastic for reaching out and catching the float. The adjustability is the standout feature. At 3 feet, it's easy to stow in the cuddy or under a seat. Crank it out to 8-10 feet for most of our docking, and that full 12 feet would come in handy if you find yourself in a crowded marina when the slip neighbor's lines are in the way. No more stretching awkwardly or risking a dunk. It's not feather-light like some aluminum ones I've tried, but the trade-off is worth it for the rigidity—doesn't feel like it'll snap if things get bumpy. A couple practical notes from real use: It doesn't float (unlike some foam-filled models), so keep an eye on it if you drop it overboard. Also when the pole is at its full extension, there’s some flex, and I wouldn’t suggest trying to pick up anything heavy and it’s as unwieldy as any 12 foot pole, but with fewer of the extensions in place it’s much more solid and easier to manage. I keep mine in the garage extended to about 10 feet. We have shelves hanging from our 10-foot ceiling and this is a handy tool for repositioning these items or ‘bumping’ them from the shelves without having to get out the ladder! Overall, a practical, well-made, and versatile for both salt and fresh water. Highly recommend if you're tired of short poles that leave you hanging (literally). 5.0 out of 5 stars — Excellent piece of gear for boaters, and a handy tool for around the house! ... show more

  • NEVER consider when personal safety is a concern
If you are limited on space and need something to fish items from the pool or push a tree limb while pruning, getting something from a high grave shelf then this might be great. I suppose in a pinch you could throw in the kayak, maybe. As you can see in the picture and video they are foot long sections that can be screwed together to make whatever length you need up to 12 feet long. The molded head and handle appear to be nice and solid, comfortable and useful. Each segment though is a hollow tube with a cap on the threaded end to maintain shape. My concerns are multiple though: A). It’s definitely NOT suitable for boating as there is no way to lock in each segment so you’re constantly at risk of it unwinding and separating. B) since each tube has a plastic cap (presumably to prevent crushing of the tube and jeopardizing the threads, each tub can collect water without any drain hole options built in so it’s gonna get heavy once it’s immersed in water. C) The fitting where the head screws into the first pole section is only held in place by simple punches on the shaft instead of rivets so I would expect this to separate under heavy load leaving you with a pole and no head. So I won’t use it in any situations where personal safety, or protection of an expensive asset like a boat or a dock is involved. Mine will be great to pull the robot vac from the pool or snag a stray limb from a tree to cut with a pole saw. Maybe I find a stray drawstring bag to throw it all in the kayak, but even there I kind of question it’s usefulness and ability to perform under pressure. ... show more

  • It works
This boat pole is very sturdy collapsed, much less so once fully extended. It worked fine with my small Boston Whaler, but might have a harder time with a larger boat. However, it works and does what I need.

  • Adjustable length makes this a multi-purpose tool
I bought this as a boat hook, but once I saw how easy it is to change the length I'm repurposing it as a general use tool! I've already used it to place ice-melt tubes on my roof and plan to put it in my camper once the season changes. I have a Class B RV (#vanlife) with a storage pod on the roof. I've been looking for a pole like this to be able to more easily manage the stuff inside that pod while I'm on the ladder. A standard boat hook is too long. But putting together 3 sections of this pole makes it almost exactly the length of the pod while still being short enough to fit inside it! Couple of things to note. It took me a minute to figure which ends screw together (senior moment lol). Once I got over that brain blip, it takes just a few turns to go from 3 feet to 12. The hook end has nice rubber tips, making it safe for pushing off as well as pulling in. Seems to be pretty strong, though I'm not sure I'd be comfortable putting a lot of stress on it at the full length due to the number of connection points that could fail. But for lighter work and/or at shorter lengths this pole is a great value. ... show more

  • Sturdy, Adjustable & Great for Docking
This adjustable boat hook is a really practical tool to keep on board. The extension pole adjusts from 3 to 12 feet, which makes it easy to reach docks, lines, or other items in the water without having to lean too far over the boat. The stainless steel construction feels solid and durable, and the protective rubber tip helps prevent scratching the boat or dock while using it. The pole locks securely in place once extended, so it doesn’t feel loose or unstable while pushing or pulling. It’s also nice that the threaded end makes it compatible with other attachments if needed. Overall, this is a sturdy and useful boating accessory that makes docking and maneuvering much easier ... show more
