  • Can be hard to fold up
Style Name: 26 lbs
While this anchor definitely digs in, to set and release it can be difficult if arthritic at all.

  • So fat so good
Style Name: 26 lbs
I’ve used this on two boat camping trips and it has performed very well. No complaints even after going through a thunderstorm with 3ft swells.

  • Good anchor, safety hazard.
Style Name: 19 lbs
This anchor works well but be sure to have your tetanus shots up to date. It is a safety hazard due to the multiple metal burrs that are all over the anchor. If used out of the box, it will surely cut your hand to pieces. I spent 30 minutes going over the anchor with a metal file to remove all the burrs on it. They need to do a much better job on quality control. ... show more

  • I chose this because it saved someone's marriage
Style Name: 26 lbs
Are you suffering from the drift? For those of you who are looking at a box anchor, you are possibly here because you are tired of drifting and all of the stress it causes you and your family. I was in your shoes once. I had a small, 1995, 18ft competition ski boat that we used regularly on a large lake in NJ. There's one big party cove on the lake where we used to hang out for most of the day. Unfortunately, on some days it could get quite windy and cause many anchored boats to drift including me. I was using a pretty standard fluke-style Danforth anchor and on most days it would hold fine but there were enough days that it didn't hold and it would stress me out the entire time. On windy days, I was constantly watching the shoreline to make sure we weren't drifting and if we were drifting I had to adjust and correct and re-anchor etc. It's not a relaxing day when you have the drift. We operated this way for several years thinking that it had to be how we were anchoring but over time it really didn't matter how we set the anchor, windy days would push us around. So I started my research and came across a box anchor. One review caught my eye right away. His headline said something to the effect of "this anchor saved my marriage" and I immediately could relate to some degree. His review explained how stressful drifting was for him and his wife and how they would argue and scream at each other. The box anchor was a gift from the heavens and from that point on, they never dealt with drifting again and their days on the lake were stress-free... at least from drifting. That single review convinced me to pick up a box anchor... let me just say, they work. Keep in mind, they work in certain types of soil conditions and may work well in other conditions that I am not familiar with, ie: rocky lake bottoms but I can't speak to that. Our lake here in NJ is a muddy bottom and the box anchor is the way to go. We've since graduated to a larger 21ft, 2021 Moomba Mondo Surfboat, which is much fatter, heavier, and has a higher draft, not to mention a huge tower and built-in bimini so you can imagine the wind pushes us around quite a bit but we no longer suffer from the drift, not with the box anchor! Rock solid. Now to be clear, this anchor didn't save my marriage - my wife and I didn't scream at each other, although there were some intense moments. Generally, my wife had felt really bad for me and was always very supportive but the box anchor did take away the stress of drifting. I can't help but still watch the shoreline on windy days but now I just sit back and empathize while the other boat owners suffer. When possible, I share my knowledge so that they too can be stress fee and avoid the drift. In fact, this very anchor is a gift to my good buddy of 20+ years whom I got hooked on boating and whom we tie off with at the party cove. He too now finally has a box anchor and no longer suffers from the drift. ... show more

  • Too heavy for a canoe trip.
Style Name: 19 lbs
I got this to take on a canoe trip but it's really too heavy to bring with and portage. It would be good as something to keep on your pontoon boat or duck skiff. It folds up and tucks away nicely.

  • Heavy-duty!
Style Name: 26 lbs
This box anchor is really heavy! It is good quality, super thick metal! I now have no issue getting my anchor to grab and hold my boat. The anchor folds easily for storage! Definitely worth it!

  • Some mixed feelings about this anchor.
Style Name: 19 lbs
There are definitely some pros and cons to this anchor. It does save some space since it folds flat, however, it is still quite large due to the length of the way it folds. I happen to have a storage locker under one of the bench seats that it fits well, but relative to something like a fluke anchor, you're really not saving much space. The anchor itself does hold and release from the bottom well. I have an 18' fiberglass bass boat that the anchor will hold in all but the heaviest of winds. It can be a bit of a pain to release the pin and spring to open or close the anchor, and do watch your fingers, especially when you're doing it in a rocking boat! I'm taking a star off because of the craftsmanship. The welds look like they'll hold, but there are many sharp metal burrs and edges that could have easily been ground off if there was some care put into the work. I have an angle grinder at home that I'm using to keep the anchor from easily cutting me in numerous places. Don't expect your anchor to look like the photos (as it should have) until you're ready to do the work yourself at home. A bit of a bummer on an otherwise decent product. ... show more
