I pretty much live in these now. For me they are comfortable, I have wide feet with a fairly high instep and the leather stretched out quickly to fit my flappers. I wear them working on the farm, hiking with the dogs, and to town for the pub. I gave them a good slather of boot grease and they keep my feet dry in the snow and spring rain. I will say, the outsoles DO NOT take much heat, I melted them a bit kicking smoldering branches into a burn pile. Nonetheless the tread is holding up pretty well, not much wear in two years, but I'm usually on dirt, not concrete or paving. If I buy again I'll see if there's a version with a stouter outsole. ... show more

    • Getting Blundstone 500 Size Right

Update, 07-12-22: While I stand by my initial review of my Blundstone 500s, I want to add that at this time the molded foam midsoles are desintegrating. This happened to my Vasque hiking boots, too; but it took over 30 years! Anyway, I just fished my Blundstones out of the closet, and a large chunk has fallen out the front of one boot, and the sole is peeling off, and both midsoles feel friable, meaning decomposition will only go faster from here. Otherwise, the boots are in great shape, as would be expected, as they got little wear over the 3 years it took for the midsole to break down. Caveat emptor. Original review: It took me 3 tries to get the right size Blundstone 500s, and I recommend doing some research before purchasing these boots. The size basics are these: The Australian whole size Blundstone is an American E width and a full size longer than an American size boot. The half size up is literally no longer or wider but is is "roomier" inside than the whole size under it. I wear a 10 E American boot, and the Australian size 9 Blundstones fit me well enough that I kept them. My feet simply swim in the 9 1/2., despite it is - literally - exactly the same length and width as the 9. As for quality, these boots are not like Limmers or Whites but they are well made by today's standards for mass produced boots. The leather is not at all soft, rather it has a firm hand, like a good work boot, and it takes a while to break them in. The insole is nothing special, and the heal counter is stiff. The mid-sole gives some support, not a lot. The sole is medium soft. Overall, the 500 offers more support than my Clark's Desert Boots and less than typical work boots I've opted for over the years. I would not use them for construction work involving extension ladders or shovels, but they are fine for uneven terrain and doing chores. I wear them daily as a construction superintendent. For this they are more comfortable than my Red Wing 952s, yet another American made boot that's not what it once was. ... show more

These are hands down the best boots I've owned. Great for wide feet and they are lightweight but build super sturdy. I tried Thursday boots but they were not of the best quality and they were heavy, these are like a dream compared to those. Highly recommend. I love the look of these rugged boots but found the sizing to be very difficult to establish with the Blundstone boots. Especially if you are a half size, I’m a 9.5. I ordered the Aussie size of 6.5 Which is equivalent to a 9.5 U.S. women’s and 7.5 in U.S. men’s. The 9.5’s were to tight in the toe and rubbed my heel, but the width seemed fine (my feet are narrow). Being that they are leather, I tried for a week or two to walk around town in them but ouch! I thought I’d better return and give a size 10 a try. Size 10 came and my feet were swimming side strokes in them every time I took a step! I sent them back but still didn’t give up on what I wanted. I decided to do more research and found out (and personally experienced) that Australian Blundstone boots half sizing are really only a “half size” wider, not longer, obviously different than what the shoe makers do for us here in the U.S. Sizing is “unisex” which is close to UK men’s sizing it, can be extremely confusing if your an American... But everything and everyone says they swear they stretch and last forever! So now, after all this I have purchased the Blundstone 550’s women’s 9.5 and put shoe stretchers in to help in the process. I haven’t worn them enough (due to COVID) to say they’ve stretched enough yet. But I am hopeful. Hope this was hopeful. :) ... show more

About 10-15 years ago Blundstones were the best boot ever. Fit like a glove as soon as you put them on. NOW they are about a 1/2 size too small, stiff and difficult to get on and off. I'm returning them.
