  • More Episodic Than Filmic, Should Become A Series
It wasn't that bad. It was more of a pilot for a one-hour drama than a short film. I was saddened to see that one of the cast members, Curtis Posey, was killed. There's a Memoriam card at the end of the credits for him. Yet, that is the reality for MANY black men in Chicago-- but not all. It is possible to star in a film about violence and become a victim of it before the film's release. It's heartbreaking for me because I'm in the same age group as the actors. We're 30-something black males who should be buying homes and starting families. Instead, we fear for our lives at the hands of other black men or the police. The director and editor didn't need to put as many scenes in here. The church scene was pointless. The funeral scene didn't have enough extras. They could've called me, I woulda come. All seriousness, it was better than I expected because I am tired of poverty narratives set on Chicago's South Side. Jerod Haynes and Tai Davis are great actors and I will be supporting them in the future. ... show more

  • Absolutely beautiful. This is what makes a race a race
Absolutely beautiful. This is what makes a race a race. This is what makes a culture a culture. In my country we know and were thought how black people were being treated in country. I came here with lots of love for black people. I have a beautiful back daughter who I love. however, I was rubbed by a black person. I saw a black person rubbing the bank right in front of me. Then my thought started changing. I ask myself why why do you do so much wrong to everybody especially to your own people. Why so much drug, prostitutionn,,killing . To teach others how to treat us we have to start treating ourselves better. You cannot call each other Niger and not expecting others treat you any different th ... show more

  • My husband I watched this movie and really enjoyed all of the powerful messages
My husband I watched this movie and really enjoyed all of the powerful messages. The strength, courage, commitment, love, support, and and will of the people came across in a way which made you take a second look at yourself. It was awesome.!!!! I really want to know the name of the song and whose the artist rapping at the end. When i researched, it appeared to have been a song done previously for a German movie and re-recorded in English for this movie. The movie spoke volumes then when the song plays it sinks into your thoughts with all the messages from the movie. ... show more

  • This is how you do big things in a small space.
This is a film full of heart and poise which prioritizes FEELING over thematic dogma. Incredible effort and a joy to watch. Gentle, caring cinematography, and direction that was human and close, rather than mechanical and withdrawn. Even when the writing got bogged down, the actors carried the story forward with an unwavering sense of belief and dedication. ... show more

  • Meh
It wasn't good, and it wasn't bad. If you have nothing else better to do, then watch it. I wish we could make movies about A.A life that wasn't the typical gangs, drugs, violence, broken homes, etc. Those things are not all that happens in our l communities. If we continue portray our lives, families, & communities in the same old, dim, depressing light we will never progress as a people. We can make movies that are much better and uplifting. ... show more

  • Worth engaging and committing to dialogue afterwards
True to life, though still only a microcosm of life on Chicago's South Side. Meaningful. Impactful. Very well acted & believable. A good tool to open or continue dialogue which is just as meaningful and urgently necessary.

  • Loved this film
Loved this film. Great message and story. Powerful soundtrack. The only negative takeaway was that there is a totally not needed sex scene. If it were not for that I'd show this to kids.

  • Good movie
Well acted film. The performances felt unscripted and real. The story sort of tapered off as the film went on but it kept my interest. Overall good movie.
