  • Better for kitty than many others!
Flavor Name: Chicken, Turkey & Chicken, Oce... Size: 1 Count (Pack of 12)
I’m a wildlife biologist, so I spend a lot of time thinking about what animals eat—and that includes my cat. I’ve seen firsthand how poor nutrition affects long-term health and, unfortunately, a lot of cat foods contain fillers and/or artificial flavors (lookin’ at you, Fancy Feast). Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they must eat meat to survive. They rely on nutrients found only in animal tissue—like taurine, arachidonic acid, and preformed vitamin A—and can’t synthesize these on their own from plant sources. While they can digest small amounts of plant matter, it’s not nutritionally necessary and offers limited benefit. In the wild, any plant material they consume usually comes from the stomachs of their prey or as an incidental nibble (like grass). Their digestive systems are optimized for meat, not starch; because carbohydrates aren’t needed to meet their nutritional requirements, they have low levels of the enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates. Not all grains are evil, but they’re often used in cheaper pet foods as inexpensive fillers—to bulk up the food instead of using more meat. That can lead to weight gain, kidney trouble, blood sugar spikes, and food sensitivities. Fillers mean lower quality nutrition — grains don’t provide the amino acids cats need (like taurine), so foods that rely heavily on them are less nutritionally complete. I feed my kitty Blue Buffalo Tastefuls, which is a good balance of quality/nutrition and cost. It comes out to be about $1.44 per 5oz can, which isn’t bad if you take a look at what other brands cost for lower-quality food. It’s made with real meat products and doesn’t rely on cheap fillers like corn or soy. TL;DR: Blue Buffalo Tastefuls edges out brands like Friskies, 9Lives, Whiskas, Fancy Feast, Sheba, and Cat Chow because it’s made with real meat as the first ingredient—none of that mystery meat by-product business. It skips the artificial flavors and preservatives, and doesn’t bulk things out with cheap fillers like corn, wheat, or soy. Tastefuls is packed with protein and has a more natural ingredient list overall, which means better nutrition, healthier coats, and happier bellies. Plus, picky eaters tend to go nuts for it—without the upset stomach afterward. ... show more

  • Pickiest cats will love it !!
Flavor Name: Tuna, Chicken, Fish & Shrimp Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
My cats love the entire Blue Buffalo Tastefuls line ! The food in the cans - 5 .5 oz, is enough for 2 grown cats. When you have a cat, you can't just have one. The ingredients on the can say everything! They are not using a bunch of corn and wheat gluten. This is dense, heavy food. When I open a can, my giant cat has his face in it before I cat spork it out of the can. And both of my cats want to lick the can when they are finished their meal. Its dense food, so don't expect much gravy. Blue Buffalo makes quality products pet parents can trust. I think feeding your cats good food is an investment in their health and appearance. I love my cats and I want them to be happy with their food, their toys, and time I spend playing with them. If you spend time with your cats you probably care about what they eat. I've been using Blue Buffalo for a long time and never got a flavor they did not love. ... show more

  • Cat healed on this
Flavor Name: Tuna, Chicken, Fish & Shrimp Size: 8.25 Pound (Pack of 1)
Though I don't like every ingredient in the list... I do appreciate that my cat's psoriasis, an allergic skin condition that for us was caused by Purina dry cat food, healed up on this Blue Buffalo canned cat food. How can you argue with significantly improved health?

  • Made my cats sick
Flavor Name: Tuna, Chicken, Fish & Shrimp Size: 5.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
I have three senior cats. Two that are 9 years old and one that is 14. One of the males ( there are two ) prefers the minced cat food while the other prefer pate. I ordered this thinking the flaked might be something in between. When I opened it, I was surprised to see teh food was packed very tightly and appeared to rehydrated kibble or something like that in a viscuous wet substance not like gravy but something that keeps the contents moist. I started with a can of the shrim and cod. Within minutes two of the cats were vomiting and contnued comiting for at least three more times before they had emptied their stomachs of the food. The other cat a male would not even touch it. I thought this was odd. I thought maybe the food expanded in their stomachs and made this feel overfull? I normally feed the cats 5 times per day splitting a 3 0z can between them in each feeding. Plus they get dry. So I did not fee them the whole 5 oz can when I first tried this. I waited a day or so and ran low on my other brand so I tried some of the poultry flavor in this again. This time I processed it in my mini food processor to break it down a bit. It still seemed quite viscuous and not like any consistancy of any food I had tried before. But I put a little out for each of them. Again withn minutes the two that ate it began vomiting until it was all up. What I cleaned up from the carpet felt like tar almost like thick and sticky, difficult to even clean from the carpet. No blood in it and the cats seem to be eating and ringing normally. They will eat the other brand. But this stuff seems more like a dog food consiistency than cat food. Either way It is going in the garbage. Quite shocked that Blue Buffalo is the manufacturer I use their dry brand. But this is just not something I would even buy for my cats again. Don't know if it was a bad batch or what, but when it makes your animal ill, it is not a good formula at least for my cats. ... show more
