I received this hearing amplifier 12 days ago, and am very impressed. Several months before, I went to an audiologist and was diagnosed with age-related hearing loss. No big deal. Simply put, it means that my hearing isn’t as good as it used to be. I can still hear, but higher pitched sounds tend to be less discernible, and things sometimes sound a bit muffled. I hear, but don’t always understand everything that’s said. Needless to say, this has been driving my wife nuts for awhile, which is the reason for the audiologist visit. As I expected, he suggested a pair of hearing aids, $4,000 for the pair. Also, they were the kind that hung on the ears, which would be very noticeable. I was willing to put up with that, but was really put off by the cost. So, I started looking at alternatives. One thing I like about Amazon is the verified purchase reviews. This hearing amplifier had quite a few reviews, and a good percentage of them were 4s and 5s. So, after a lot of research, and some procrastination, I took the plunge and got one for my left ear, which seems to be my “worst” ear. And, once again, I’m pleased with my purchase. But, having said that, there are some things to keep in mind. First, this is a hearing AMPLIFIER, and not a sophisticated hearing aid, with 18,000 variations of settings, and able to leap small buildings in a single bound. It does have a variety of settings, but at the end of the day, it simply boosts the volume. That means that it is still sometimes hard to understand some conversations (and movie sound tracks), because just making it louder doesn’t always make it more understandable. BUT, for average conversations, it is a big help. My wife noticed a difference just a few seconds after I inserted it, because I began speaking softer because I COULD HEAR MYSELF BETTER/LOUDER. She has for a long time complained that I yell at her during a simple conversation, when I don’t realize I’m yelling. Suddenly, I toned down my volume because I could hear myself more easily. Okay, another couple of things. It has about 8 volume levels and 3 presets. I don’t pretend to understand the presets, but the volume levels are pretty obvious. You will have to experiment with that, but it won’t take long to get the hang of it. Another thing, every time you insert it in your ear, you will get a loud squealing sound, but it goes away as soon as it’s seated in your ear. This is important, because when you put it in with other people around, everyone around you will hear it along with you, so seat it quickly and be done with it. There are times I have taken it out in loud areas, and then placed it back in when things get quieter, so that is a scenario that can happen. I used the smallest silicone “cone”. The instructions for the use of the silicon attachments are virtually nonexistent, so take off whatever is on the devise when you first take it out of the box, and replace it the smallest silicone “fitting” you see, and go from there. Another thing is that I have relatively loud tinnitus, and this will not help that at all. But, then again, there really isn’t anything out there that actually does help tinnitus (despite all the commercial products saying they can “cure” it). But it also doesn’t make it any worse. Don’t wear it to bed, because there’s no point, and it would be uncomfortable and use battery power needlessly. One tip….after I take it out for the night, I open the battery compartment and leave it open, so there’s no way the battery can be using power. It took almost 10 days before I got the “low battery” series of beeps, but I also only try to use it 4 or 5 hours a day. Obviously, your mileage may vary. One really great thing is that after it’s seated, and it takes a second or so to do that, I can barely feel it. It’s extremely comfortable, and I would completely forget that I had it in my ear except for the fact that it changes the hearing dynamics in my left ear so that’s always noticeable to that extent. I have pretty significant hearing loss and have been using this while awaiting my hearing aid order. For $95, I can't complain. The hearing aid amplified sound and at least allowed me to have conversations with people. The quality of the sound is not good, however. I've found it impossible to dial in a good program/ volume setting that allows watching tv and talking to people. There's distortion. Also, don't expect the quality to sound like your favorite headphones. The sound is tinny and reminds me of the days of AM radios. This was purchased as a backup for a Phonex aid. It provides good amplification for moderate hearing loss. Once the proper volume is set, it remembers that setting when turning it on & off. Feedback squealing is a major problem at all settings. One trick is to insert the aid in the ear prior to turning it on and quickly removing your finger once it is on. Only the lowest volume settings resist feedback. Turning your head or touching the aid can trigger feedback. Certain sounds can trigger feedback even at lower volumes. This is a very delicate device which reqires finess to operate and change the battery. ... show more

The hearing aid is very small, tiny, and works well for me. I've purchased similar items before and I am very satisfied with the product. This version seems yet again smaller. However, Amazon's delivery service delivered the product to the wrong address, not the one on the package. Not Amazon's fault. I managed to find the neighbor who received it and who had already stuffed it in my mailbox. The hearing "amplifier" came with a couple of batteries stuffed in with the domes, and a card of 6 Ray-O-Vac batteries which were greatly appreciated. Prior purchases came with only one battery. The problem with these hearing aides is not the performance but finding where to buy them. Every time I have bought them it's from a different seller. I am sure I will lose or break these in the future and hope this seller, BLJ-Flagship, is still around the next time I need one. By the way, the delivery was on time and fast, if only it had been to me instead of a neighbor who had just moved in and did not know me. The programs seem to be well designed and I use a different program for each ear, and at times for what I am listening to. I have a high frequency hearing loss, more on the left. Adjusting the volume is by pushing the very small button on the hearing aid. I have owned one with screwdriver controls and found that it was hard to adjust not what I needed. I find myself adjusting the volume depending where I am and the content of what I am listening to. While the hearing aid is tiny, pushing the button is not difficult for me. A larger person may not agree, again, the hearing aid is really tiny. Frankly, I really like it. I can hear things I don't think I ever heard before, or wanted to hear. I am much older than I thought I would ever be and my parts are wearing out. These help. They are comfortable. Now if only I can can remember I'm wearing one before I get in the shower. It doesn't like to get wet and will let you know immediately and loudly. ... show more
