Blocks the light right out. Work nights & sleep during the bright hot Phoenix days, but the room is pitch black with these on the windows. Air ‘em out first for a couple days - weird smell at first but it goes away. Measure, cut (if needed) & attach with adhesives - pretty simple. They’re thin but easy to work with & the room is so dark if you use the various adhesives to seal the edges. Very cool - highly recommended 👍🏻

I like these blackout shades. They are a thin smooth sheet that you can cut to the size of your windows. One side is black and one side is silver. The shades come folded so after installation there are some fold lines you may see. The quality is good. They stay in place nicely with the included adhesive stickers that hook and loop together. I would suggest take the time to measure nicely before installing. I did a quick job and now when I want to slide open my window I can’t do it all the way because some of the shade is overlapping the other window. But that is user error. These shades definitely keep out the sun which is awesome because the summer sun and heat where is live is intense. The shade sheets are also a nice value because I was able to do two big windows and I have some left over as well.

This blackout curtain is more just a sheet of black plastic than a curtain. The plastic when you open the package has such a strong smell it'll knock you over. We took it out and left it outside for a day before bringing it inside - it still stunk bad. We endured it and hung it up anyway. At first the velcro strips to attach it held great, until they just all decided they were done. Every night we had to keep sticking the velcro back to the window, it stayed stuck to the curtain just fine though. Once installed, don't try to take it down or open part of it by the velcro though - any amount of pulling on the velcro will just pull it off the window since the velcro is so strong. It came with clear dot stickers - but the instructions say nothing at all about what they are for. Once up there is NO light whatsoever that comes through which is great! They are tacky and ugly, so we just left the regular curtains up to hide this.

Good for blocking out sunlight

The good: definitely work to blackout sunlight! I am using them in combination with some "blackout" curtains (that are thick, but don't fully block sunlight), and in combo, no sun gets in! By themselves, these do a pretty good job, but it's a little challenging to get a full light seal around the edges. That said, in this combo, no light gets in! The less good: this is thin, cheap material. Not the cheapest you can imagine, but still pretty thin. I would be surprised if these last more than a year or two. They also smell TERRIBLE when you open them. After they air out, it's better, but it's clear these have a lot of offgassing. Also, the sticky pads do work, but it's challenging to get the front protector off to use them. That said, I was able to do it. Finally, I've tried to make it so that I can potentially open the window if I want, by only sticking at three spots for each. Remains to be seen how well that will work, but I don't feel the need to open that window often, so it should be good. As a portable reusable item, I'd question how many time you could reuse them, as you need to use an adhesive patch each time. It comes with velcro fasteners as well, but that doesn't really make much difference to travel use. It does come with a cutter and a bag, which can help, but once you cut it, it's cut which reduces its' usefulness. And they are kind of ugly and cheap looking from the outside. Overall, though, it ultimately does what it needs to do, and if it wears out, I can get a more permanent solution.
