Description

Blackmagic Design's new DaVinci Resolve 12 has over 70 new editing features based on feedback from professional editors. With DaVinci Resolve 12, editors now have dual monitor support and familiar professional tools like dynamic JKL trimming, audio crossfades and fully customizable keyboard shortcuts for faster editing. Trimming tools are context sensitive, which means DaVinci Resolve automatically knows whether editors want to ripple, roll, slip, slide, extend or shorten edits, based on the position of the mouse. This makes editing super fast because time is not wasted switching tools and clips.

  • Excellent video editing powerhouse
After 6 months I've barely scratched the surface of the product. I upgraded from a top-rated consumer app. But this one is definitely pro grade. The learning curve has started to flatten, but suspect I've only discovered less than half of what's possible with this. Even less when considering the creative graphics capabilities of Fusion. Overall the app is pretty stable. But to really use its features you'll need some workstation horsepower. I'm running it via a Ryzen 9 and the Titan RTX GPU. The fact that DR Studio leans more on the GPU pushes the need for more GPU RAM. Without it, you might be frustrated in your system performance. But meeting the GPU RAM needs will provide you a powerful post-production tool. Overall module integration is great - switching between EDIT, Fusion and Fairlight is seamless. Fairlight itself is a great audio editor - intuitive and feature rich. Yet I'm still puzzled why an audio editor's name references "light". But that's just me. Another helpful benefit of DR is its database architecture. It's much more flexible as a DB platform in terms of file management. Additionally, there's a pretty extensive on-line support group with plenty of tutorials available to assist with use instruction as well as troubleshooting. And with all of this functionality you can't beat the price. Overall it's a great value. ... show more

  • Resolve is just so good these days, and the price is a steal (though I do hate dongle licensing)
It's the best end-to-end post-production suite on the market today, hands down. I cringe every time I have to dip back into Adobe Premiere and After Effects (collaborating on projects with others). I'd so much rather be in Resolve. Dongle licensing is an anachronism, though. I do sometimes find myself unable to work remotely because I left my dongle plugged into my USB hub at home. And I wish they'd finally fix the UI to support high-pixel-density displays (which users have been demanding for years). As it is, everything is blown up all Fisher Price when you're connected to a modern 4K display. But, still usable, and still better than Adobe's suite. ... show more

  • Just buy it.
The best video software value out there, hands down. I used the free version for years, which is very good, but BMD has added enough features now to the Studio version that it made sense for me to buy it. There is a long list but for me the enhanced tracking, the AI assisted object removal, and the support for CUDA acceleration across multiple video cards made it worth it. It's important to note that BMD has never charged for an upgrade. If you bought a license to Resolve 12 then you now own a license to Resolve 16. They don't believe in subscriptions or add ons. So unless they suddenly change their business model you are basically paying $299 for a lifetime subscription. They add new features constantly. If you buy one of their cameras you get a Studio license included. If you figure that's a $299 value then it makes their starter cameras really cheap. The big question for me was whether to buy the dongle or the digital license. The digital license lets you install on 2 computers. I have a desktop and a laptop and plan to replace them soon...I don't know if the license can be transferred to a new system and I suspect if it can then it involves some hassle. The dongle let's you install on as many computers as you want but the software only works with the dongle attached. This is a bit of a hassle moving it back and forth and I already almost lost it once. You have to install either the Studio version or the free version on each computer so you can't just leave the dongle and keep using the computer as if it was the free version. You can uninstall the Studio and install the free and your projects will be saved but obviously not all features work. The current Davinci Resolve includes fairlight as the audio package within the program. Before BMD bought out Fairlight, that software alone sold for over $10k as a standalone. This is incredible value. Sadly, as an amateur I will never really make use of a fraction of the sound features in Fairlight. On that note, I really only use a fraction of the Color Page power and potential, but that fraction is pretty sweet. ... show more

  • Be careful! It doesn't include the speed editor!
There's an important problem: the speed editor is not included and not only the product picture shows it, but also there's no advice about is not included! That's very sad!

  • This is the Dongle
This is the Dongle Version. Which in theory is clear by the image but the Activation code version is the one with the carpet picture that looks less official and somewhat suspect since some people The software is great, i've been a fan of it for a long time. I returned this product and got the license code that can be activated on two computers and doesn't require me to tie up my limited USB ports. Also If you have the free version of DR and you want to use this you need to fully uninstall the version before installing the studio version before installing the studio version. I am still giving it 5 stars. As others noted, you either need this or you don't. ... show more

  • Dongle! (Such a stupid word)
Make sure you want the dongle version before ordering. Also, though it was unclear from the description, I WAS sent the latest version (DaVinci Resolve 18). Updates are then free. Forever. Just make sure you want the dang dongle. The dangle.

  • Fast shipping. Dealer support was good
Shipment arrived faster than expected. Software is working great once I figured out you have to boot the software with the provided USB stick inserted into the PC. No activation code needed when using the USB.

  • I finally made the switch!
I was a fan of Premiere Pro for the longest time. However, over the last couple of years, I've been contemplating making a shift. DaVinci Resolve met all my needs and more... so, I finally did and am happy I did. The "re-learning curve" wasn't that steep and editing is fun again. It comes at an affordable price (a big plus) and recommended it highly. ... show more
