  • It's not "Wretched and Divine," but it's very good!
Black Veil Brides' new album is, as promised, musically a throwback to their earlier style. It sounds heavier than most of the songs on Wretched and Divine, without the symphonic touches and the sweeping storyline. At the same time, though, the new album retains the lyrical quality of "Wretched and Divine." It's less repetitive and more philosophically and emotionally mature than "We Stitch These Wounds" and "Set the World on Fire." While the songs do not tell one continuous story, many of them resonate. Like the songs in "Wretched and Divine," many of these songs alternate thematically between honest spiritual searching and finding hope to keep on fighting against seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The "rebel with a cause" tone that first drew me to their music remains strong here. If you like their heavier sound from their earlier albums, you will like this album. If "Wretched and Divine" is the only thing of theirs you enjoy, you will probably be disappointed. But... let's face it, "Wretched and Divine" is the sort of masterpiece that may only happen once in a lifetime to any band! After several listens, my favorite songs are "Faithless" (a surprising affirmation of the need to have heartfelt beliefs), "Devil in the Mirror," "Goodbye Agony," and "Drag Me To The Grave," although they all have their merits. ... show more

  • Step-daughter Would Recommend This
Me, I am not a fan of this group. I bought the CD for a family member as a gift. She is a big fan of the Black Veil Brides and I believe with her receiving this album she has all their recordings to date. Based on what she told me she loves this recording and rates it among her favorite album's. The five stars then I am giving this album is based on her thoughts and feelings on it. I don't know. Maybe it is a generational thing. I like hard rock as much as the next person but Black Veil Brides version is a little too much for my taste. For the step-daughter however she loved it and I would say she would recommend this album to anyone a fan of BVB. ... show more

  • best cd ever made
This is by far the best cd I own. Do yourself a favor and give it a chance, you'll be hooked. the opener Heart of fire. these guys are also the best live. They have the best and most dynamic vocalist in rock, their bass player is incredibly talented and the drumming is the best I have heard since Neil Peart . The guitar tandem is the best. the lead guitar player Jake Pitts is simply the best I have ever heard, he is already a legend. there is not a bad song on this cd. goodbye agony and walk away are incredible ballads. I predict these guys will be the next kiss as far as popularity cause they have what it takes. In every aspect they are also better than kiss. Once you buy this, you'll have all 4 in short order. ... show more

  • From an old school Rock and Roller fan, this is the new band to watch!
Wow, love this CD! Took my son to see them at the Observatory in Santa Ana. What a great show. I truly believe that this band will become the next great rock band. As the old guard Rock 'n Rollers from my day start to retire from the tour circuit, I'm hoping that Black Veil Brides gets the chance to fill those vacancies. Love the first two songs "Heart of Fire" and "Faithless". It's got the sound, melody and lyrics,...I'm a believer. Great job guys! If you're a fan of old school rock with a slice of the new stuff, this is the band. ... show more

  • vinyl review
The album is beautifully crafted, my favorite songs would be faithless, devil in the mirror And last rites. The entire album is very very well put together the album art may kinda put you off for a minute thinking that it's like a metal-core album or something but it's actually rock with one metal-core song "stolen omen" there is a very good ballad on this album called walk away which shows off Jake Pitts guitar skills where it doesn't have the wretched and divine feel or the violen and piano and makes up for it with rock 'n roll riffs and heavy guitar solos. ... show more
