  • No leakage with fountain pen
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Large Pattern Name: Hardcover
I mostly use it with a fountain pen and there's absolutely no leakage across pages. Awesome product!

  • Great notebooks
Size: 3 Pack Style: Large Pattern Name: Hardcover
Started using these notebooks last year and I've been really happy with them. They have a great feel, weight, thickness, smoothness of paper, and are a pleasure to write on.

  • Perfect
Size: 3 Pack Style: Large Pattern Name: Hardcover
These are good for what they are designed for, lightweight easy to write on, opens and closes easily. They're not cheap but hold up well and paper doesn't bleed through so can use both sides of page. I'll buy more when needed.

  • Excellent Spiral Notebook for Heavy Duty Use AND for Fountain Pen Users!
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Large Pattern Name: Flexible
I've been hunting for either a A4 or Letter (or equivalent) sized ruled notebook mainly for fountain pen use. I've been using Five Star 1 subject notebooks for a while, but their quality has been slowly going downhill. Every other page, the toothing is in the opposite direction, or the fibers are different. Very annoying. One sheet could be good, and the next 3 might be horrible. In any event, I prefer Rhodia, the paper is nice, but the notebook construction is less than desirable. Also, there is no margins in the Rhodia. I also tried the Clairefontaine Classic, but it's construction wasn't too much better. The paper was OK, but not like the Rhodia. I also tried a Maruman Mnemosyne N199 A4, and for it's price it wasn't worth it. I didn't like how the top of the pages were setup, nor was the construction much better. This Black n' Red notebook is in a different league. The paper feels just like the Rhodia (maybe between the Rhodia and the Clairefontaine Classic, but more towards the Rhodia), but it's got the ruling and the lines setup just right. Similar to the Five Star notebooks. It also absorbs the ink without feathering, and it makes even my wettest ink dry rapidly. The price is great! Cheaper than the others I tried (with the exception of the Five Star). As for what I usually use to write in the notebooks: TWSBI ECO, Parker Jotter, VAC700R, Lamy Al-Star, occasionally my Jinhao X750 with a custom Goulet gold nib. They are all medium nibs, and all using Noodler's EEL Black. Right now I'm finishing up my last few pages in my Five Star, and I'll report back if I notice anything weird or different that messing around on the first page as a test page. But for now, the notebook is the best I've used. ... show more

  • The cover curves over short time
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Large Pattern Name: Hardcover
I like how thick and sturdy the covers of this notebook are. However, the front cover started to curve after less than a day. The notebook hasnt gotten wet or anything. It curves outward from the edges so the corners stick up a little bit. I've tried bending it back but it reverts immediately. It's a minor thing but it's very inconvenient considering how much these notebooks cost. ... show more

  • Excellent notebook except for two problems
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Large Pattern Name: Flexible
Black n Red Twin Wire Notebook The quality of the paper is excellent. I first started using this brand out of frustration with other notebooks while writing with fountain pen . The two problems one finds with fountain pen are “feathering,” where the paper is too absorbent, making the writing look ugly, or “bleed-through,” making it impossible to use both sides. The Black n Red paper shows neither — making it almost unique, in my experience, among reasonably priced and readily available notebooks. The 24-pound paper feels just right to the touch— neither flimsy nor thick. It is clearly of high quality. Another paper property of which I am acutely aware is smoothness. Here again, the Black n Red paper excels. Using a rough surface paper with fountain pen is like running fingernails across a blackboard. (I know — I’m dating myself: fountain pen? blackboard? seriously? No, I do not use an ink well.) I have filled a dozen or so Black n Reds, of various sizes, with writing in Waterman fountain pen, Pentel Precise markers (0.5 and 0.7 mm), and pencil (0.5 and 0.7 mm, HB and softer). In all cases, writing in the Black n Red is a delight. The pen or pencil glides across the page with just the right amount of friction. The polyprop cover is sturdy and just the right weight to protect the pages. I like the idea of the elastic closure/bookmark, but the way it is fastened to the cover makes a lump that interferes with writing, so I removed and discarded it. By the way, the hardcover version of the Black n Red does not have that problem. It includes a handy ribbon bookmark, sewn right into the binding, although no elastic closure. With all these criteria, my rating is an enthusiastic five stars. My daily journal is a hardcover Black n Red notebook, size A5 paper, with which I am well satisfied. So why the 3 stars for this one? The problems that I have with the twin wire 11 by 8 1/2 size are the paper size and the perforations. I use these notebooks for creative writing, study notes, meeting notes, and various scribblings and lists. After filling the notebook (or as I go along) I typically want to remove the pages so that I can edit and arrange them by 3-hole punching them and putting them into a 3-ring binder. The pages are perforated to facilitate their removal. Problem one: the paper size. I chose the 11 by 8-1/2 inch size because living in the U.S., my 3-ring binders are all designed to fit that paper, as opposed to European sizes A4. For most other brands of notebook with perforations, the paper size would be 11 by 8-1/2 after removing the sheet along the perforation. But in the Black n Red, the specified size of the sheet includes the perforated margin, so that after removing a sheet, its width is 8 inches. If I intersperse these sheets in a 3-ring binder with paper from my printer, the paper widths differ by a half inch. Incidentally, the sheets are ruled with a left margin which is 1 3/16 inches wide after removing the sheet along the perforation. I find that wide a margin unnecessary, and results in waste of space. But that is a minor quibble. Problem two: the perforations. For me, the probability of cleanly removing a sheet along the perforation is about 20%. The rest of the time, either part of the margin rips away with the sheet (“hanging chad” anyone?), and must be laboriously trimmed with tearing or scissors, or else the sheet tears during removal. To me, this was the deal-breaker and the reason that I will no longer be using these notebooks. If you plan to leave the pages in the notebook forever, perhaps just removing the occasional page in order to discard it, you will no doubt be extremely pleased with the Black n Red, either in the hardbound or in this twin wire version. However, if you plan to remove more than a page or two, for whatever reason, you may be disappointed in this notebook. ... show more

  • Not The Same Hardcover Spiral !
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Large Pattern Name: Hardcover
The media could not be loaded. I LOVED the “old” Black n Red large hardcover spiral. (my pictures aren’t perfect) The new one does not have the map inside with the pocket divider and the cover is not Shiny Black like it used to be. I loved that! It is matte black and textured sort of like fabric. It doesn’t feel as substantial and I think it was $8-10 more than when I first purchased. Love the paper, but want the old design and cover back. The biggest difference is the cover and missing the Map covered pocket divider. ... show more
