It is fluffy just like the picture but the padding used inside compressed pretty much to the floor. This mattress is only slightly better than sleeping on a piece of wood. I’ve rolled it up and put it away in a closet for if my kids have sleepovers. Would not recommend for anyone with back issues unless those back issues improve from sleeping on a very firm surface.

I'm not sure what the above review "Deceptive picture/advertisement" was expecting, but I think they may simply have been unaware of what they were buying. This is not an inflatable bed mattress like one might find elsewhere, this is specifically a futon mat. As a Japanese item, it's much lower profile and is intended more or less to be directly slept upon on the floor with much less padding than a regular US mattress. That said, this is quite comfortable for a futon mat, and the memory foam does a great job at keeping its shape. Having a cover is really the most important thing here to extend longevity as putting the entire mat in an oversized washing machine will shorten its lifespan considerably -- this is way bulkier than a comforter. It's a cute pattern, and the product as held up well so far. The "bag" is quite thin and really was only good for shipping it in, but the straps make it easier to roll up for longer storage and there are plenty of other ways to keep things tidy. It's a bit on the expensive side, but if you know what you're getting and treat it well I think it'll last a long time.
