I haven't actually used it on the stairs so please keep that in mind. I have taken it off its base so I imagine it would be easy. We had an old carpet cleaner that crapped out on us. I really didn't want to fork out the money for a new one but an inside dog and 2 small kids it's a necessity. Especially since the previous owner thought white carpet was a good choice. It didn't get the really old stains out but it did get the new stains out which helped us stash away enough money to replace the old white carpets. ... show more

Works better than a Rug Doctor IMHO. I use it at least 3 times a year - doing every single rug in the house, the fabric sofa in the kid's room. It grosses you out when you have all this black water to dump out. You know it's doing its job when the water is dark and ugly. A must have if you have a cat or dog for sure! ... show more
