This is a fantastic product. It's made in the USA, with very high quality parts. It fits together perfectly. All of the holes line up. It will last for many years without rusting. Assembly, though, is rather difficult. Plan on several hours with a lot of patience. I would caution anyone that does not have the proper tools or patience against attempting to assemble it. If you have a physical disability that affects the nimbleness of your fingers, do not attempt to assemble this birdhouse. To explain... the screws and nuts are small and a bit difficult to hold and place into the many holes where they locate. There are many very sharp edges that will cut even the best assembler. Note that it is possible that a serious cut could occur if your fingers slip during the assembly. Now, notes to the manufacturer: 1. Please separate the nuts and bolts into separate packages 2. The instructions are OK, but illustrations would help. The photos are very difficult to see clearly. ... show more

Yes you have to assemble. And YES they have an American Telephone Number, and they answer the telephone. Actually, very responsive. ASSEMBLEY. As you finally start getting together you will see the strength of the design (structural) quite ingenious. My point? This Martin House will last DECADES! Quality of metal, (ZERO PLASTIC).. The clean out function is very nice as well, in fact ingenious. Am I happy? I had a HEATH, little easier to put together, but lots of plastic, and started breaking apart last summer, with birds in it. By spring it was destroyed, (lasted about 4-5 years). For sure, would recommend this one. So it takes an extra hour of assembly, but beats plastic and something that will last 4-5 years. I actually imagine this will last a good 20-30 years. Even the lock washers are nylon inserts (expensive but long term perfect).. Once up, I know you will agree. Also, the Truly Made in America? The box is quality, the packing is quality, the parts are HIGH quality. 100% believe best Martin House. Would 100% buy again, and be advised the erection/install time is probably longer, but there is a reason...The structural design, besides what are you going to do? watch TV?.. Understandably, the parts have sharp edges. They will scratch a vinyl floor. Use something underneath during assembly. The assembly directions leave a lot to be desired, but other than that, a nice birdhouse. Some parts were 'stamped' with a 'part number'. Other parts which the directions said were stamped, were not. Just put a dad gum sticker on the parts and reference the part number in the directions. ... show more

A bit of a chore to assemble, but with some time is no problem (2 hours). Much more durable than the thin aluminum would suggest; once assembled it's rigid. Screws are stainless, nothing should rust. I screwed on a different base that goes with my existing pile. Looks great!

It took me right at 3 hours to (1) Look at large photo & valuable info for new/forgetful Purple Martin patrons on the box, (2) Read directions, (3) Gather up necessary tools, plus returning for additional tools, and (4) Assembling the entire house. All the components were included, plus some 6-8 extra nuts & bolts. I spent excessive time re-reading directions and dis-assembling due to my miss-reading or not understanding the directions &/or photos. The finished project seems sturdy, well designed, and all parts were cut, stamped, drilled, etc. for ease of assembly. Only time will tell how it fairs compared to those old ones from 30, 40 or 50 years ago. I am betting it will pass the test. ... show more

Must have misread the advertisement. I thought this was already put together. So like a lot of these houses, had to get out the tools to put together. Directions are a little unclear. You have to connect the two (or more) floors together. How ever I like the unit and will see how it stands up. Also a little misleading on buying the unit. Did not need a mounting bracket for the pole, the house comes with a metal one, so will have to send it back to Amazon..plastic anyway. Overall still happy, hopefully got it out early enough to attract some Martins, I would recommend this unit. ... show more
