My driver’s side window had shattered. I could not get a replacement immediately and more rain was in the forecast. I tried covering the opening with layers of kitchen plastic wrap and clear packing tape. It didn’t hold up long and the view through it was not clear enough to be considered safe. I found the Big Tape Window Plastic Barrier Film, and applied to the window frame around my door. It is considerably thicker and stiffer than plastic wrap, and fairly durable as well. (Note: If your door does not have a full window frame, you will not be able to apply this AND still open the door!). It was not difficult to apply this product on my own, but a second pair of hands could have been helpful. I made sure that the edges of the tape wrapped around to the inside of the door to prevent the tape from peeling off at freeway speed. I had to add some packing tape to secure the area around the side mirror. I was able to get it on reasonably flat and tight, and it worked pretty well. While slightly hazy, it was much clearer, and therefore safer, than the layers of plastic wrap. Overall, it did exactly what I needed to do for several weeks during the winter wet weather. When it was time to remove it, it came off fairly cleanly. Any residue could be addressed with a bit of WD-40 and some elbow grease. (Some kids may need to look that last one up). I offer a couple of warnings (or what to expect when you’re protecting): When applying this film to the side window of a vehicle, you have essentially turned it into a giant kazoo. At higher speeds, it can vibrate loudly, somewhat reminiscent of a snare drum, nearly drowning out the stereo. This is particularly noticeable when applied to the driver’s door. I did a little experimentation with attempts to dampen the vibration, but nothing I tried had a significant effect. Avoiding the freeway was usually the quietest option. When you come to a stop, you get to hear everyone else’s stereo much more clearly. Think of this as either as cultural enrichment or motivation to get the window fixed sooner. Since this is essentially a large piece of cellophane tape with a static charge and the sticky side facing the interior of your vehicle, I recommend finding a way to keep your hair away from the surface of this film. Such attachments are not catastrophic, just mildly annoying.

This crash wrap was an absolute lifesaver. My sunroof drains clogged, causing water to back up into the footwells of my car. I needed a temporary solution to keep more rain out until I could get the vehicle serviced, and this worked perfectly. It was very easy to apply, adhered securely, and kept water out even through rain. It saved me from additional water damage and likely spared me from expensive detailing costs. I hope I never need it again, but I’ll definitely keep a roll on hand just in case.

My passenger side window is stuck half-way down; I assume the motor is dead. I won't be able to get it fixed for a couple of weeks and I hated to have the old 'plastic with a bunch of criss-crossed duct tape' look. So I purchased this product and I am impressed! It's covered the open half of my car's window for 2 weeks, so I can share a bit of experience time has offered. First of all, the plastic is quite easy and quick to apply- you just need scissors. The stuff sticks amazingly well to itself, but didn't stick to my hands while I was working with it. Once applied, it holds terrifically through wind and rain, and I can see quite well through the plastic when I'm driving. My only issue was when I was driving on the freeway. The product stayed stuck just fine, no problem there, but the sound from the wind battering the plastic was very loud and distracting. All in all, though, I highly recommend this excellent product!

It actually worked! I bought this stuff at the beginning of last winter and held off on the review until the rainy season ended. We had our 2 days of spring, and now we're deep into volcanic temperatures and fires (Northern California, yanno). I put this Big Sticky Tape on my sunroof that leaked and left it on all winter. The first rain after I put it on, there was a little leakage, but that was user error. I missed a spot. But once I taped over it, it was fine and lasted all winter without leaks. It was a bugger to peel off after the winter season and left a little bit of residue in some places, but a little WD40 or cooking oil takes the sticky residue off just fine. It did not peel off any of my old paint (25yo car!), so that's a bonus. I bought it out of desperation, and it actually worked well. The roll is an OCD nightmare -- it's not smooth on the roll like normal tape. It's just all crinkled on there, like when you rewind overage on a spool of tape. This product holds up incredibly well when installed correctly. I was able to drive on the highway at 80 miles per hour without it coming off. And even kept rain water out. I was amazed!! However, the description says, 'no sticky residue.' This could not be further from the truth and I'm really surprised there aren't more reviews stating this issue. It absolutely left a residue behind and it's incredibly difficult to remove. I tried rubbing alcohol, Goo Gone and Goof Off. The only product that worked at all was Goof Off, but it required a ridiculous amount of rubbing. I estimate it would take at least an hour of constant rubbing to remove all of the residue. So that's my warning to you.
