They are 3.5 thick with 4.25 larger outer chambers that keep you comfortably cradled in the middle of the pad. Built of durable, superlight double rip-stop nylon fabric with aviation grade TPU lamination that provides ultimate weld strength and dependability.
  • The high-volume valves with micro adjustments make for fast inflation/deflation and easy fine tuning to your preferred firmness. It is the most comfortable sleeping pad I have ever tried. It is easy to sleep on my side with this thing. I don't feel it getting cold at night, it properly reflects the heat off my body. It has both two way valve and a one way valve. The one way valve makes it so you can blow up the thing all the way without needing an airpump. My only complaint is that it is not a camoflauge color such as beige. It packs down way smaller than I expected it to. I have room to put it on the inside of my backpack. I’ve used several sleeping pads over the years. Xtherm, klymit, Nemo to name a few. I had been most happy with the Nemo but I was looking for even better/lighter. Then the Rapide SL came into my life. The sides are a bit higher which keeps you on the pad. It also comes in a short version which is perfect for my 5’2” self. So for a short regular pad I’m looking at 18oz without the stuff sack and the most comfortable nights sleep I’ve ever had while backpacking. I wasted a lot of money buying other mattresses in the past that caused me to wake up several times per night with sore hips and shoulders. This mattress, and the discontinued big agnes qcore SLX are the only mattresses I have ever found that are actually comfortable for side sleepers. I was very happy I had spent the extra money to get a light weight inflatable sleeping pad with a decent R-value. I found that the sleeping pad was very easy to fill with the provided fill bag, only took a few breaths and wasn't as light headed as I would have been had I blown it up. The sleeping pad also has separate air In and Out plugs, which takes away the frustration of inflating a pad, only to lose your progress when taking a breath. However, I would recommend using a rechargeable air pump if you can spare the change, there are a few cheap ones on amazon that also have additional features such as lights. I was most comfortable sleeping on this pad without filling it completely. I am not sure if this affects the R-value of the sleeping pad, but I found that it was noticeably effective in cold temperatures. The pad packs away very nicely in its pouch and does not need to be "folded in the perfect way" to fit back in its pouch. The pad is very light weight and well worth the cost. ... show more
