I originally ordered this harness in large on Amazon but even though I am a relatively thin woman, large was way too small in every way. I'm 5'10" so that may have had something to do with it but it was also too tight to clip. The XL was not offered on Amazon at that time so I had to order it from the seller directly. When I returned the large to Amazon I suggested they offer the XL and here it is for me to review. There is such a huge size difference in the L and XL that I thought it was odd. The large was like something for a kid and the XL is huge with room to expand! But it fits me and works great so I'm happy with it. Before I got this harness I was using a neck strap for soprano, alto, and tenor and even that was causing pain so this harness was fantastic once I got the correct size. A couple of months after I bought the harness I got a bari sax and there is no way I could play it without this harness. It's well made and looks like it will last, and it does have the metal hook. Plastic simply would not cut it, so the metal hook is a necessity. It doesn't cause any discomfort but I do find it kind of tedious to adjust, which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars The back straps have to be adjusted when it's off, at least for me, so you might have to take it and the instrument on and off several times to get it right. I found that having someone else adjust the straps in back while you have it on is the quickest and best way to go. Alas, they do not stay put for long and start slipping just a little as you play, especially with the weight of a bari on it. You can easily adjust the front straps when you have it on, and the padded shoulder straps also slide forward and backward depending on what you need. Every time I use it I have to mess around with all the strap adjustments to get the instrument positioned properly to play - height and distance from your body - as well as your individual anatomy. Maybe I need more time to get used to it. Sometimes I switch back and forth between a bari and another sax during the same rehearsal or performance and I simply could not change the adjustment that quickly. Finally, I gave up and hung a neck strap along with the harness and use the neckstrap for the smaller sax. Despite a few minor annoyances I like this harness and am grateful there is an option for women.

I ordered this expecting a metal hook, but it's plastic. This is very upsetting, because the metal hook version costs more, and I'm feeling ripped off. But I don't trust sending it back because I can't be certain I'll get the right one, and I can't be without a harness in the meantime.
