My husband installed ours this morning, and I am already impressed. When our house was built the dryer was vented up a tube in the wall and out a vent on the roof. My husband didn't like cleaning out the tube, so he vented the dryer out into the garage - but lint seemed to be getting everywhere with the lint catcher he was using. This looks like it will solve the problem, and the installation was really easy. UPDATE We have been using this for a couple weeks now and are very happy with it. The only thing we thing the manufacturer should change is the changeable filter. We experimented with various filters and determined the following after installing the vent and weighting the change your filter door as per the instructions: (1) The changeable filters that comes with the vent are too lightweight and almost impossible to clean. The change your filter door popped up after only 3 loads - with little lint on the filter. (2) I then tried just the metal filter - which never popped up the change your filterdoor - but blew small particles of lint into the garage and all over the car. I had to use a Swiffer duster to clean up the mess. (2) I next tried a 3/4 inch thick washable filter cut from a a/c filter (about the same thickness as the filters that came with the vent) - and while it was easier to clean, the change your filter door popped up after 6 loads - with a moderate amount of lint in the filter. (3) I next tried a 1/4 inch thick washable a/c filter - which was the easiest to clean, and the change your filter door didn't pop up until 10 loads - or a week of laundry. I will be purchasing the 1/4 inch a/c filter and cutting multiple filters for the vent at quite a bit if savings over the filters that can be purchased from the manufacturer. They also work much better than the ones provided by the manufacturer. The pictures below are of the installation in the garage with the change your filter door popped up, and the metal filter and 1/4 inch a/c filter after 10 loads (1 week) of laundry. This appears to be the right combination for maximum efficiency and longest filter use between changes. Update 2 - 10/20/16 I have added a picture of the filters I experimented with. The green and black ones on the top work best. The blue one (I tried 1/2 in. & 1/4 in. were as bad as the filter provided by the manufacturer. The denser the filter the less loads. The two less dense/light weight filters did as good as of a job at blocking the lint as the denser filters. Filters in picture: 1) The green filter is from the cheapest whole house a/c filter my husband could find. It's about 1/8 inch thick. My husband had to remove it from the cardboard frame it came in. This worked as well as the black filter - about 10 loads. These are not washable at all - must be tosed after using. 2) The black filter is a foam window unit a/c filter, about 1/8 inch thick - it was the cheapest and worked as well as the green filter - about 10 loads. This was the most washable - but since they are cheap - I have been throwing them away after one use. 3) The blue filter is made out of dense fiberglass or natural hog hair (not sure which) - I tried 1/2 inch thick and 1/4 inch. The 1/2 inch thick one worked as poorly as the one provided by the manufacturer of the dryer vent. The 1/4 one worked slightly better. These are supposed to be washable - maybe with a power washer? 4) The white/blue filter is the one provided by the manufacturer - I got the least amount of loads with it (it and the 1/2 inch blue filter) - and it really isn't very washable. Update 3 03/26/2017 - Magnet Weights I have found that over time the glue on the magnet weights degrades and the magnets fall down into the vent. I would recommend putting the magnets on the top of the pop-up flap and not the underside. It's still a very good solution to my dryer venting needs - perhaps just needs a few design changes. Update 4 07/22/2017 I've added more pictures of my filter solution. The cheap ($2.94 packet of 4 20x25x1 fiberglass air filters) Flanders Easy Flow green filters from Walmart are the best. (I couldn't find them on Amazon). Just pull off the cardboard and you can cut out 6 filters from one big filter. Use care as fiberglass can poke you - using gloves while doing the cutting can eliminate that problem. As I said in another update - double up the filters in the unit. I replace the one closest to the air flow once every week to week and a half. The other about once a month. In the pictures I've added you can see how well this traps the lint - keeping it from escaping into my garage. I still highly endorse the vent - just not their filters and magnet weights - but by trail and error found good solutions.

Since I have 3 dogs I didn't want an indoor dryer vent that had to use water because it would be too easy for my dogs to knock over. I read several reviews before choosing the BetterVent. This gadget is great. It was easy to install on the wall right next to my dryer. After putting it together and attaching an 8 foot long dryer vent hose to the dryer and the Bettervent hose opening on the bottom I finally got to enjoy drying about 4 loads of laundry. (Honestly, who "enjoys" doing laundry.) I have a ceiling vent in my laundry room so I used that to pull moisture out of the laundry room for the second load. I forgot to turn it on for the first load but I really didn't notice the room which is small warming up much at all. I bought this because we have a mobile home and the vent going to the outside of the house is either broken away from the outside vent or it was hopelessly clogged after 14 years. I had bought a new dryer that has digital buttons and a dryer vent warning if the vent is not clean and it had blinked constantly when I did one load with the dryer vent that went under our house. I stopped using the dryer at that point so I wouldn't burn it up and hung up the blasted clothes on the line again temporarily. Calls to find out if it could be repaired and cleaned were not good. Repairs, cleaning etc would have cost over $300.00 and that was only if I could find someone to work on a mobile home. Yeah, right. We mobile home owners are the one legged, ugly red headed step children no one wants to do any work for. So $48.00 for the Bettervent seemed a lot better and less expensive alternative. 1. Easy to install (I'm in my 70's and a kid or old lady like me can install this.) 2. It looks nice and is well put together. 3. It's easy to clean. Just open the door and any lint that's caught on the screen inside can be cleared off easily.) 4. The "robbers" that want you to spend large amounts of money are losers on this. 5. I asked questions and the BetterVent people answered my questions the same day I asked. Great customer service. 6. I am now a happy one legged, ugly red headed step child with a mobile home and a dryer vent that works. So if you have any doubts about the BetterVent you can use this without any worry. I had doubts but not anymore. This gadget really works and I am really happy with this purchase for my laundry room.. One more thing. It was shipped quickly and I got it a day before the estimated delivery dates. Adding additional information. I've had this for a few months now and I've been using the same filter. It can easily be cleaned by using a bottle brush, the kind with bristles, not the foam kind to gently hit the lint loose that collects on the inside of the filter, the light blue side of it. It gets pretty dark as it fills up with lint but goes back to the light blue color when its been batted clean. I do this outside obviously. The screen catches the rest. I also have developed the habit of washing the clothes at night and drying them in the mornings to take advantage of the "free heat".. The heat warms up the laundry room and some of that heat makes its way into the rest of the house. It is not only drying my clothes but its also saving me heating costs as well.

At some point, home builders decided that venting the dryer through the roof was a good idea. It's actually a terrible idea. The only way to make sure the vent isn't blocked at the roof opening is to get up there and inspect it, unless you're willing to pay someone. I'm willing and able to do the maintenance on my own, but the problem with our current house is the roof pitch is too steep. We're fortunate that there's a window in the laundry room, so I decided to try out the BetterVent. The instructions say to mount it on a wall, but the first change I made was to mount it on a 24 inch square piece of plywood and put it on the floor, leaning against the wall. Fortunately, we have extra room next to the dryer. The BetterVent is also designed with a small trap door on top that's supposed to lift up when the filter becomes clogged and air pressure increases. Another change I made was to tape the door closed, and we just clean the filter every time we dry a load (two-person household, so we don't do a lot of laundry). The only problem with that is, it's a little rougher on the filter, and the first one only lasted two months. Another thing I do is put a large box fan in the window, with the air blowing outside at full speed, and I run the ceiling vent. I found out the hard way that not doing so creates a lot of humidity that collects on every surface, including the walls. When we move, I'm not sure what I'll do if there's no window near the dryer. In terms of performance, we haven't had any problems, other than having to open the window during all kinds of weather. The BetterVent completely solved the issue we were having with clothes taking a very long time to dry thoroughly, because there's now a much shorter distance to push the air, and it's easier for me to make sure the duct is unobstructed.

I've had it for a couple months now. Install was easy. Calibration was easy and they also have a video tutorial on YouTube if you don't like written instructions. I actually opted to use some strong double sided mounting tape rather than the drywall anchors included in the kit and it's held up well, so you don't have to drill into your wall if you don't want to. I've only cleaned the inner blue filter once, I only vacuum it out when the indicator pops up on the vent. It vacuumed off easy and it took so many loads of laundry to get the indicator to pop up that it's very convenient. You can absolutely clean the inner filter every time you use the dryer but only doing it when the flap indicator comes up works fine for me. Took about two months for it to build up that much lint. It is also important to note that any indoor vent kit will make your house hot and humid while running the dryer. Dryers put off lots of heat and moisture and my windows in the laundry room fog up every time. In winter it's fine I just turn the furnace off while doing laundry. In the summer it will heat the room, and the house and will work against your AC. Any indoor vent will. If this is a compromise you don't want to make, consider having an outdoor dryer vent installed. Other kits use water and get really gross over time. They require more frequent cleaning. This kit is 100% dry and can go a long time without needing to clean or replace the filter. Others even attest that you can buy swamp cooler filters at Home Depot and cut them down to size rather than buying the name brand ones. Is it worth 60$? Probably not, it's the most pricey indoor vent kit I've found but it is also the best indoor vent kit I've found. If you plan to vent your dryer indoors for a long period of time I'd say it's the most convenient option. If you are looking for something to tide you over until you can cut a hole in your wall or roof for a proper outdoor vent, maybe don't spend the 60$. I plan to go to an outdoor kit in the summer as the heat the dryer puts off is substantial, but this kit has served me well, from the easy install to the low maintenance of using it week after week. I may even keep it around for the winters to reduce to my energy uses, like I said the heat output is fairly amicable in winter time if you turn your furnace off. It is pricey, but I greatly prefer it over the Home Depot/Lowes kits it directly competes with.

My dryer vent duct exists through the roof top, and when I noticed everything in my laundry room covered with a frank amount of dust after laundering some blankets, I figured the ducts needed cleaning. A few minutes into the procedure the service man informed me that the duct was never installed correctly, was not connected to the outside roof vent cap, and was in fact too short to couple with it. That meant then all that dryer lint and dust was simply blowing into the attic space. He told me he did not have enough ladder length to enable him to reach it, and suggested I call another service. After calling numerous companies that install dryer vent ducting, not one was interested in the job, and it was suggested I call a building contractor. I had a better idea. Following a quick search for options, I came across indoor vent systems, and ultimately decided on the BetterVent Indoor Dryer Vent system, also purchasing the flexible transition duct and an end cap for the installed wall duct. I chose it because it is not bulky, doesn't take up floor space or interfere with movement around the dryer, and its attractive. It was quick and super easy to install, and I did it myself. It really does the job too. No more dust everywhere, no more fear of lint fire hazard, and no more paying someone to clean the ducts. I can do it all and keep my money! Look at the photos. #1 – screen with filter after 10 dryer loads, #2– dirty screen before vacuuming, #3 – polyester filter before vacuuming, #4 polyester filter after vacuuming. #5 – installed system The filter vacuums very well and I expect will last a long time. I recommend this system 100% for ease of installation, effectiveness, ease of cleaning, and overall appearance.

First, my washer and dryer are in a basement. My house is half basement, half crawl space. So the previous homeowner, who had a "handy man" who wasn't handy at all...ran the duct from the back of the dryer, up and over the central dividing block wall between my basement and crawl space, through to a basement window. It started out as the flexible foil duct, a portion of galvanized pipe the same diameter (about 10 foot long) with the flexible duct taped to it, and then about a 10 foot piece of the vinyl flexible duct that terminated at a makeshift flapper vent. Needless to say, it was absolutely worthless. After living in the house for about a year, I checked the ducts. Completely full of lint and not air tight, so lint was basically blowing around under the crawl space. I wasn't about to recreate this nonsense, so I went looking for solutions. I purchased the Bettervent because I believed it would be the best solution. It took me about 30 minutes to install. I mounted the unit on the side of my stairwell which leads to the kitchen on the first floor. It's about shoulder height. It's been running now for about 3 weeks. I clean the metal lint screen about every 3 loads. I use a handheld vacuum to vacuum out the lint from the provided mesh filter. The filter looks brand new after at least 2 dozen loads. I don't have the problem with lint buildup and moisture that some have indicated. Although I have a fairly large dehumidifier that operates automatically, so that might be the difference maker. Overall, this item has been exactly what I needed. <b>60 day update: I installed this item right around the first of the year, and we are now into March. I still have yet to change the first filter (the unit comes with 2) and we do at least 5 to 6 loads of laundry per week. About every 5 loads, the wife and I (whoever loads the drier) will just vacuum both the screen and the filter with a small handheld vacuum. This thing works great and I'm completely satisfied with it.</b>

Well this is a nice remedy to a builders of my home not doing the job right!☹️ I just bought a home that during inspection was discovered that punk insulation was blocking the dryer venting 12 inches in from outside the dryer vent .☹️ so instead of ripping out walls. I found this little guy !!! Had my handyman install and I love this fix!! Now it does cause some humidity in laundry room but in Colorado this is not a bad thing.. it works beautifully. I use a small hand vacuum to clean filter so that I don’t have to purchase more filters. That method works well., the vent is a good quality made in USA 🥰 . If you have a dryer that does not dry efficiently this is a great solution! 💙🩷❤️

Yea, OK, is venting your ELECTRIC dryer inside is a plus or minus ❓❓❓. So many variables 🦉Too much to debate in this simple review. Please make your choice based on reality rather than speculation. That said, if you have thoroughly researched the topic and decided to vent inside with a commercial unit, this one is not completely awful. My main complaint is the ridiculous “safety” vent feature that is supposed to blow open if you don’t clean the filter. CHEAP’O … CHEAP’O … CHEAP’O Seriously, CHEAP’O. It doesn’t work on my system with a 100% clean filter and all the silly weights in place. Second complaint is no summer bypass ❓‼️ On my dryer, the exhaust blower is strong enough that the bypass cracks open all the time with all the weight strips ❗️I can’t imagine my 27 year old Kenmore is an exception ❗️I considered taping it shut but that defeats the purpose of this device. I now place a box fan with a MERV 12 filter in front of the dryer vent filter to keep fine lint dust from contaminating the house. Keeping the heat and humidity from an ELECTRIC dryer inside the house during the “heating season” is a great idea ‼️ but implementation is still difficult because of fine particle emission (lint❗️) You WILL need to add fans for air circulation or the local humidity will be ridiculous ‼️ So, if the bypass is even partially open, you will have serious dust problems ❗️ There is no manual bypass for summer operation❗️Unless you live in Albuquerque or Antarctica, you undoubtedly want to vent to the outside in the summer. This has no option, no bypass. This could be incorporated with ZERO effort / zero cost but was not included 🤷♂️ I guess I will add that feature myself 🔨 Overall, it’s OK for what it is but has CHEAP’O shortcomings. Prettier than just wrapping a polyester filter bag over your drier vent but maybe not much better 🧐 Safety bypass is a lint / IAQ disaster in disguise. No option for summer bypass. This could be a great product with some simple modifications; but it is what it is. I think the idea is still a ➕ in the heating season for me with modifications since I now have it but in hind sight, it was probably not a cost effective option.
