Description

Developed by the BetterSax team over the course of almost 3 years, the Session Alto Saxophone was designed in the US by saxophonists for saxophonists. This commitment to understanding the needs of players is at the heart of what makes BetterSax products so special. Every Session saxophone is the result of meticulous craftsmanship and precision. The bells are skillfully hand-formed and hammered, the posts and keywork are individually hand-soldered, and each key is expertly hand-fitted and regulated for flawless action. Every horn is hand-engraved, carefully assembled, and inspected individually—not mass- produced on an automated factory line. After this process, they undergo a final thorough inspection to ensure every detail meets exact specifications. Only then are they placed in their cases and prepared for shipping, guaranteeing that each instrument meets the professional standards you deserve straight out of the box. The Session Alto is a true professional horn, delivering exceptional quality and performance for serious players. It’s designed to deliver a warm, resonant tone with fantastic projection and consistent intonation across the entire range. The ergonomics have been fine- tuned for smooth, comfortable playing, making it a reliable companion for long practice sessions, gigs, or studio work. Whether you’re playing jazz, classical, funk, or anything in between, this saxophone is built to perform at the highest level while remaining affordable. With premium finishes that look as stunning as they sound, the BetterSax Session Alto Saxophone offers an unbeatable combination of quality, tone, and value. If you’ve been searching for a horn that delivers professional results without the professional price tag, this could be the perfect fit.

  • Great, Versatile Horn
Color: Copper Bronze
The Player: To get credentials out of the way: I have played saxophone for many years and have a performance degree. I love practicing and performing and have owned a number of instruments from different makers. I purchased this instrument out of enthusiastic curiosity after hearing saxophonist Jay Metcalf speak about it. Having spent a little time with it, I am absolutely delighted. The Case: The case is very thoughtfully designed. It has a large, expandable external pocket, backpack straps, and a surprise pocket with a rain cover in it. There’s a decent amount of space within the case for extra accessories as well. Overall, it feels well made, looks professional, and appears to protect the horn effectively. The Instrument: I chose the copper bronze finish which certainly does not disappoint. It is truly beautiful. The keywork placement is very subtly different from what I’m accustomed to, but I actually find it to be a bit more comfortable for my hands than my Selmer Series II. The table, in particular, is exceptionally smooth for me to navigate. The palm keys feel great as well. Ergonomics on this instrument were clearly approached with great thought and care. The Sound & Response: This horn has a beautiful, expressive voice. With my Selmer C* mouthpiece, it’s easy to produce a warm, colorful, resonant sound. The response is excellent and dynamic shifts require very little effort. With my Theo Wanne Lakshmi mouthpiece, it can purr, roar, or blow the walls down. My Meyer 6M also pairs wonderfully, allowing me to achieve the ‘mellow foo-foo’ sound I enjoy so much. (Think Stan Getz.) The included mouthpiece is completely serviceable - and it’s generous of them to include it at this price point - but it’s too direct for me personally. (Even my metal Lakshmi has more warmth.) The Burnin’ mouthpiece is very stable, though, which I always appreciate in a mouthpiece with distinct ’bite’ and projection. The Intonation: I find this instrument to be easy to play in tune. My other alto is significantly older and I know all the tricks needed to play in unison with other instrumentalists. Those tricks don’t appear to be necessary with this. The C#, for example, is really nice; no covering or other manipulation required. (Further testing is required, though.) The Value: This is a rather unbelievable value for money. I would expect to pay a minimum of $4500 for a horn like this. It’s a professional-level instrument with fantastic build quality and possesses the flexibility required to play whatever style of music you’d like to play. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Happy music making! ... show more
