    • Easy to assemble, great basic coop for 3-4 hens.
This cage is perfect for 3 or 4 chickens. I am a 47 year-old woman and was able to put this together with no assistance. The directions themselves make little sense, but I am pretty handy and was able to determine how it goes together. I will be reinforcing the cage with chicken wire, as the gaps between the bars are large enough for snakes to get through, and possibly big enough for baby chicks to escape. The cage is fairly sturdy, but I will be reinforcing it with zippy ties for additional stability. The tarp isn't heavy-duty, so I will be purchasing a small tarp to protect my hens from the New Mexican sun. Overall, I am pleased with this product. I think it's an inexpensive solution for housing a small flock of backyard chickens. I may even buy another one and connect it to the one I already have. ... show more

Overall I am pleased with this pen. It is large enough for 5-7 hens. It is more of an Exercise pen than a long term all the time pen. It is Not sturdy enough to keep out dogs, coyotes or raccoons that like chickens. Since it is rather light, I don't think it would even keep out an opossum. It should keep a house cat and skunks out though. The bars are really too wide for what I like, since a snake could easily slide right on through. Since it has not bottom and goes just on the ground, it isn't good for overnight either as a rat could easily get in as well. But if you can't build or afford a Good Chicken Tractor, this works for that for day hours. I would still collect hens and put them inside a better pen overnight. Or ... if you put this pen Inside a better larger pen, than that would work as well. It is pretty easy to assemble, even by yourself. I did it alone. It has some spring stretch clips that help hold it together as you put it up. Other people mentioned adding zip ties and I agree with that idea. I used the orange twine though since I had that on hand already. The tarp they include is Really Flimsy! Hardly worth having. I added a 6 x 8 heavy duty tarp (from Walmart costs about $8 here). Once assembled it is easy to move around to new location. I would do it without hens in it though. I don't like their roosting pole either. It is metal and will be freezing cold in Winter and if the Sun gets to it in Summer, it will be hot. I just used roosting pole I had already. I do not think this pen was ever made to be an all day every day kind of pen. It is made in China, not American made. Like my title says, it is good for what it's intended for, an exercise pen/cheap chicken tractor. Based on what it's made of and the size, I do think it's worth the cost. If I needed another pen, I would buy this one again. ... show more

    • NICE SIZE !! and convertible/versatile
FIRST - it's a puzzle to put together. My husband after several frustrating minutes threw up his arms and was convinced they didn't send the correct parts or enough and gave up.... Calmer minds (mine) took over and it is challenging but I had to think opposite of what my brain was telling me on how to put it together. My mind kept wanting to build horizontally around like a box BUT NO!! Only work on one side at a time (two pieces) or it will drive you crazy! Start with a side triangle piece in front of your body pointing up. Fold one of the long pieces vertically (up and over) to match the shape of the piece in front of you. The spring loaded grips are great but doesn't make the cage sturdy. Just when you think you have one piece secured another separates. Two hands can do it but four hands are so much better. Once you have erected the individual separate sides... then merge them together. ZIP TIES ARE A LIFE SAVER but don't place any on until ALL spring loaded grips line up. CONVERTIBLE/VERSATILE - my chicks are still in their brooder and I only have 9 chicks so they don't need the full coop yet. So I reduced the coop to half the size with just a few zip ties (unclipped and separate the two sides then just remove one of the long roof racks. Place the triangle piece in place to close off the open side and now it looks more like a box). This model doesn't come with roof door as pictured. But the price if great for what you get and if you need bigger buy two or more and zip tie together ! The shape is up to you; straight and long, side by side or "L" shape by removing a side door. I have two old travel shopping carts with wheels in garage that I'll be stripping down and using them to make the run moveable. ... show more

    • Purchased in the nick of time...
We wanted our cat to have outside time safely, but I didn't want to spend a fortune. I wouldn't put a stronger animal in this cage though. It's ok, but the doors really don't align very well and I secured some parts with zip ties. I needed something with an enclosed roof, not just a tarp cover. Sure enough, when we put her in, she climbed right up and tried to get out, but couldn't. I was able to put a cat perch in there with zip ties, covered it with my own tarp, used a water bowl meant for a cage, hung toys from the support bar, etc. So in that way this cage is very versatile. It's also very roomy for her. I took 1 star off for lack of instructions and aggravation and 1 for quality. Chipped paint and the doors are not great, but it is o.k., I just expected a bit better. This is a 2 person assembly job to me. If you don't join the correct sides together, it won't work. There should be one door on the very right long end and the other door on the very left long opposite end of the cage, with 3rd door on cages end. I hope that helps a bit. First off, I think this is a great buy. For the money this thing is awesome. It is very simple and because of that, it will be very functional for me. It was easy to set up and I use it to grow my quail out. The bars are a little over an inch wide so I wouldn’t use it for anything smaller than a medium quail. I think it would be good for an outdoor play pen for a Guinea pigs, rabbit, a couple chickens and similar animals. The pins that hold the corners together also act as the ground stakes. This makes it a little tricky to move around the yard but not impossible. The material is about as thin as you can get while still making it structurally sound but I plan on buying a second one soon. ... show more
