  • Remote to Replace Harmony
Style: Universal
Finally a remote to replace my trusty Harmony Elite! My Elite died after several years of service. I was having trouble finding a decent replacement, such as Sofabaton, but nothing measured up. I happened to come across a video review on YouTube for a Bestjoy Super Remote. I found the design and functions intriguing, so I decided to give it a try. I’m happy that I did! I did find it a bit difficult to program because the instructions are translated from Chinese and don’t come across clearly. The company has several video instructions on YouTube with subtitles translated from Chinese. I watched them a few times and got the hang of it. The beauty of this remote is that it can handle IR and Bluetooth without needing a hub. It works great with my Apple TV as well as my Firestick 4K Max. I’m able to create macros to start the TV, switch inputs and go to either Fire TV or Apple with one click. It can also operate RF items, ( lights, vacs, etc.), as well. The remote is easy to use at night with backlit keys and futuristic side lighting. The design reminds me of something out of a sci-fi movie. Even the magnetic charging cable end has a blue glow. Overall, it is well thought out. I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Weak all over
Style: Universal
I'm going to do a positive and negative list and you will notice if there is no positive section in my listing. Negatives List: 1. The tapered shape makes it extremely difficult and uncomfortable use of even select the volume or any of the programmable buttons. 2. The remote signal isn't very powerful. I have my Apple television mounted to the back of the TV, which will no longer work if you plan on using this remote. 3. The selection of devices in the app is pretty limited, considering many much cheaper remotes. 4. Some of the devices are labeled incorrectly and don't actually work with the device. 5. Many of the pre-assigned buttons for the screen are completely useless. My Dyson HP-04 had default keys like timer, mode, exc. But didn't have fan speed, temperature, oscillate as the default keys. You will need to go in and reassign the default keys for almost every single device. 6. Some of the devices will be listed in English in the app but once you sync them to the remote it will be listed in an Asian language I don't speak. 7. Like I said before, sometimes it will sync a foreign language on the remote, even if it shows you English in the app. If you then go back to add the device again, it doesn't delete the old profile. So my remote is littered with profiles of the same device, one in English, and one in a foreign language. 8. It uses a magnetic charging port instead of a standard like USB. The cable is USB, but not the port on the remote, which is really the most important port. 9. All the words on the screen are vertical or sideways, which big cat a bit clunky to use. 10. The screen is a 1990s alarm clock green font, the other colors are blue and inconsistently lit-up red. The remote is hideous when it's on. 11. The remote is slow. Not so much is the interface, but when I press the button, the action that happens is a lot slower than the factory remote device came with. Enclosing, the remote is uncomfortable and awkward to use, anything programmed by the app will be useless and you'll have to manually assign everything including the device's name, and the signal is atrocious. I would be leery of the positive reviews as it seems quite impossible. They are using the same device as other views reading it as a one star just like I have. ... show more

  • Not a great start, but fixed and working pretty good now...
Style: Universal
I have looked at tons of reviews and decided that this would be my new universal remote. It seems to cover all the bases, but I knew that programming would be a bit of a challenge. I have ample experience installing and setting up Home Theaters, so that should not be an issue to me. I received the unit and was impressed with the look, but I could not pair it (they call it "bind") with my smartphone. It appeared to already be bound to another device. I am not sure how this is possible... but I can only assume that it had been set up by someone else (and returned?). Not a great start, but I sent an email to the manufacturer and they responded within a day, letting me know that they had "unbounded" the device. I was impressed with the quick support and was happy to conclude that the unit was now indeed available to pair (bind). I could not find the code-set for the devices I wanted to enter, but programming individual IR codes was pretty straight forward and I must admit that I actually prefer that so that I determine which codes I do and which I don't need to enter (and under what buttons). The instructions are not very clear, but you'll figure it out with some trial and error. I tested this part and was pretty happy with the way it worked. Then came the issue... I tried to get it to control my Firestick through Bluetooth. On my first attempt to set this up, the screen started flashing strange information and it stopped working. My smartphone could no longer see it and I could no longer do anything with the remote. It would not even turn off. Pressing the reset button in the back would turn it off, but it would go back to the weird flashing as soon as I turned it back on. I contacted the manufacturer again and was recommended to claim the remote with Amazon as they had not encountered this issue before. I got Amazon to send me a replacement easily through the normal channels and am looking forward to getting the new unit while I return this defective unit. I am hopeful as I did like the unit when it worked. I am hoping that this was a "bad unit" and that the replacement will work as expected. Stay tuned... So I received a replacement with no hassle at all and email support was provided quickly. Upon receipt of the new remote I initially encountered the same problem. They suggested that it could be that the power button was pressed before the remote was completely loaded and programmed. Luckily this time they could give me instructions on how to reset the unit and start over, which I did. The remote is now working and I must say that I like it. It would be useful to have a more elaborate manual for the remote. While basic programming (IR-learning) is pretty straight forward, customizing requires some trial and error which I am currently doing. Overall I think it is on the way to becoming a decent and very useful remote. It is not the simplest to program, but it is definitely worth the investment and so I adjusted my rating to 4 stars. ... show more

  • Complicated and doesn't work with many modern devices
Style: Universal
This remote had promise but then when trying to program it with the devices we had only the TV could be setup. The Xbox, Bose Soundbar, and other similar devices could not be controlled properly. It works for standard TV IR codes but anything with newer technology this will not work for you.
