  • Nice budget braided line
Style: 8lb Test Size: 164yd Color: Crystal
The Berkley X9 Braid is hands-down one of the smoothest and best-performing braided lines I’ve used. If you’re looking for a braid that casts far, feels incredibly refined, and still has the strength to handle big fish, this is it. The biggest standout is the 9-strand construction. Most braids use 8 strands, but the extra strand makes a noticeable difference—it’s smoother, quieter through the guides, and casts noticeably farther with less effort . It also has a very round profile, which helps it come off the spool clean and reduces friction. On the water, performance is excellent. The line is super sensitive with almost no stretch, so you can feel even subtle bites and structure changes easily. At the same time, it has great strength for its diameter, letting you fish lighter setups without sacrificing power . Whether you’re using spinning gear or a baitcaster, it handles both really well. Durability is another strong point. It holds up well around rocks and cover, and the knot strength is solid. Once tied correctly, I had no issues with slipping or unexpected break-offs. One thing to be aware of—like many braids, the advertised diameter can be a bit inconsistent depending on who you ask, which some anglers have pointed out. But in real-world use, the performance more than makes up for it. Overall, the Berkley X9 is a top-tier braid for the price—smooth, strong, and extremely castable. Whether you’re finesse fishing or targeting bigger fish, it’s a reliable line that just performs. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Smooth, Strong, and Casts Like a Dream
Style: 20lb Test Size: 164yd Color: Low-Vis Green
This Berkley x9 braid has quickly become my go‑to line. Casting is smooth with minimal friction, even in windy conditions, and hooksets feel solid thanks to the low stretch and great sensitivity. It’s strong without being bulky on the reel, and I haven’t noticed any weird memory or twists after hours on the water. Whether I’m flipping cover, casting crankbaits, or throwing jigs, it performs consistently. Excellent value for the performance you get — definitely worth stocking up on. ... show more

  • 9 strands is nice, always round.
Style: 40lb Test Size: 328yd Color: Low-Vis Green
I've been fishing with braids for years, and there's MANY brands out there now, almost too many to choose from. And now the latest entrants are the 8 strand and 9 strand. The advantages of braid are apparent, the one thing I like best about braids is the NO stretching, it REALLY makes a huge difference on hook setting and feeling those pesky nibblers. In fact, if I fish with mono or Fluro on a reel, it's almost like I can't imagine how I didn't notice the stretch on those over the years. Hook setting is instant and the castability with Braid is second to none. This X9 braid is very nice and casts very well, it's also nice cause it doesn't flatten out over time. Is that a huge issue? Probably not, but the round shape retention could possibly affect castability and distance over time, so I like to think it matters in the end. Good product and has upheld to saltwater conditions so far. NOW, you also have inherent challenges with braid, especially on spinning reels. You can, over time, develop wind knots, which is basically like a small tangle which turns into a tangle, in line, when you're casting. You'll feel it when it happens, as it abruptly goes through your eyelets and lets you know you have one. Hold up your rod to the sky and reel in, you'll find it. You may have to splice or remove a head section of line if it happens. SOMETIMES you can just pull on the knot, from both sides, and it'll clear itself, other times they don't and you have to cut them out. If you do cut them out, roll up the extra line and keep it with you, don't leave it outdoors or on the beach, not good for wildlife or critters that could get tangled in it. One way to avoid wind knots is to not load the spinning reel up to the very limit of the edge, leave about 3mm's behind the spool face. Also, when you get to the water, do a few casts, gradually in distance, and get the line wet, that helps too.. Another challenge is the ability of the line to cut you. If you're using 40 pound or more it's not as bad, but if you're using 8, 10, 20 or 30 pounds, pulling hard enough and you could cut yourself so be careful on that. FWIW I also use braids (heavy braids) for fly line backing too. I mean, why not? You get a 75 or 90 pound braid and it's inexpensive, much MUCH stronger than Dacron and comes in longer lengths, it doesn't rot and it's cheaper.. ... show more

  • Tough line.
Style: 40lb Test Size: 328yd Color: Crystal
The breaking point is more than the line is rated for, in this case 40 pounds. The line is easy casting and is a good match for my heavy cover rod and reel. The price is good for this quality line and the thickness is thinner than other 40 pound test braid I have.

  • Really good line!
Style: 20lb Test Size: 164yd Color: Crystal
AMAZING LINE! Used for pickerel and bass. Topped with Shimano sierra 3000 and M rod. Only thing about this white line is it frays and dyes. Lightweight, far and easy casting. Small enough to put whole spool on reel. Value is top notch and abrasion is decent. Functions as good line for any reel. Don’t get white though. ... show more

  • A Cannot Go Wrong Choice for braid
Style: 10lb Test Size: 164yd Color: Crystal
Unbelievably smooth and castable, pluse ultra low visability under water. One of my 3 go to choices for my reels. No unfavorable issues, which means no headaches and more fishing. lets face it, braid is braid except for smoothness, tight weaves which create good spooling, and castability. Other than that braid strength, sensitivity, no stretch, and durability is almost the same for braids across the board.. Priced resonable for the quality. Crystal (white) almost invisable underwater. sometimes knot tying with white is a little more of a challange, but not a factor to me ... show more

  • Best line!
Style: 30lb Test Size: 2188yd Color: Crystal
I'm a fishing Guide in florida and run this line exclusively for 2 years and it dosent dissapoint. I've caught Sail Fish, king fish, Big Red Snappers, Cobia, Amberjacks all with the 30lbs line. I think the breaking strength is closer to 40lbs and my dragg setting don't even come close, so no issues catching the big ones. ... show more
