Why are people complaining that these are turning silver or black flaking off? Of course they will because of overuse, these are thinly plated with gold for the appearance, same for the black flaking. No dishwasher, no soaking them, a soft sponge wash (no scouring) and dry off immediately for water spots. They are not meant for everyday wear . These are not that expensive and can be replaced later. I purchased these only for special occasion dinners to go with my fancy plates and goblets. So if your intention is to use these as everyday wear prepare to be disappointed! However they are lovely and sturdy and put away for when I need them.

I bought these for the color and they have held up admirably, even with multiple dishwasher runs. Which I didn't expect since so many "copper" or "rose gold" finishes never last. These were a good surprise.

Rose gold and copper have been the latest craze in all types of electronics, flatware, serveware, jewelry, etc. We are not immune. We have two sets of flatware at the moment: The nicer stainless steel 18/10 40-piece set from Towle (purchased more than a decade ago for around $80 from Crate & Barrel) that we keep for special occasions in felt flatware storage, and our daily "don't care if we lose it" cheapo Förnuft set ($9.99 for 20 pieces) from IKEA. Well, true to the whole "don't care if we lose it," mantra, we've lost 30% of the cheap utensils, and hence I was looking to either use the Towle set as our new daily and buy a nicer set for formal, or replace the daily with a nicer set than just IKEA. We're not fancy people in general (remember the whole shopping at IKEA reference?) so it's a bit hard to plunk down money even if it's for something we use daily for a decade or more. But, we all have to grow up sometime, and this Berglander set seemed to be a cross between "nicer than IKEA but won't kill me if things go bad." In other words, it might possibly be a good value for the modern style, expensive look, and as a trial for this type of titanium plated stainless steel. I've had it for just a day, though, so I can't yet comment on its longevity and ability to withstand daily dishwashing and a hectic family. BUT, what I will say is that it's just the right size for daily use, and the perfect color, balance, and modern style to use for a more formal occasion. My favorite part, though, as you'll see in the associated photo, is that there is no branding on the back of the utensils. None of this "Towle, 18/10, China" or "IKEA, made in People's R. of China" nonsense. It's a clean unstamped flatware in rose gold or copper. Very pleasing to the eye. The photo shows, from left to right: 1. The back of my Towle dinner fork, with the 18/10 stamping. 2. The front of my Towle dinner fork, slightly shorter than this Berglander rose gold dinner fork, but not by much. 3. The back of the Berglander rose gold dinner fork. (No imprints!) 4. I love this set of utensils. They go so well with any type of dish set. They are easy and thin to hold and are pretty sturdy. They are a bit hard to clean and get the water spots off, but other than that, I’ve had this set over a year and they still look brand new other than the spots.

These look nice and they don’t necessarily feel as cheap as they cost. For example the edges of the fork aren’t as rough and thin as some other inexpensive flatware, and the spoons and knives have a weighty feel to them. But after 2, yes 2 times in the dishwasher on a regular cycle (no extra heat, not pots & pans settings) I am starting to see the black on some of the handles chipping off. And while I don’t mind it, some may find the thin flat handles hard to eat with. This isn’t surprising, seeing as they have just been wrapped with what is essentially a black sticker in order to achieve the two-toned look. For the money this set is just fine if you want to hand wash or if you just accept that it won’t last very long.
