In my experience, I was broadsided by a car and I was wearing this helmet and landed on my head at the end of a front somersault. I had no concussion and did not experience any type of unconsciousness. This is a safe helmet.

    • Photochromatic Shield is great!
This is an excellent light weight helmet that seems to do everything well. The fit is snug as per previous posts...so you may want to go up a size. I wear a Med Shark Race-R Pro comfortably, but with this helmet I had to order a LG. The LG fits great, and even feels good after installing my Cardo Pack JBL speakers. It may be a bit nosier than my Shark helmet, but not by much. It seems to cool well, as I wore it yesterday while riding in upper 80's lower 90's temps, without getting overly hot (riding a 2016 Honda CBR1000RR SP). The helmet does not buffet or move around on your head at speed, and does a good job of staying in place. I do like the MIPS technology that Bell puts into their helmets. If you don't know what that is...watch a couple of You Tube videos or reviews on RevZilla, and you'll understand. The photochromatic shield changes quickly from completely clear, to a decently dark rose colored tint. I wish it got a little darker...but it definitely works well enough. Ultimately, this was a great purchase for me, and I am pleased with this helmet. 👍 ... show more

Been riding with Bell helmets for years. This is the second iteration of Race Star I’ve had. Really hard to let go of my Ace Cafe black and gold, but it was getting old…plus sustained a glancing impact during a crash. This one’s much lighter and slightly more comfy than the previous. Picture doesn’t do it justice. The mercury silver accents really pop, giving it an understated premium look. Safety features are unmatched…which I hope never to need to use. Transition visor it comes with is always amazing; otherwise, order the smoke silver visor to complete the look. ... show more

I bought this helmet and it was definitely too small. It was painful to have on. So just go a size up. I’m an XL, but I’m buying an XXL now. Otherwise I’m sure it’s fine and it’s light which I like.

Small helmet. The size chart does not correspond to reality. The circumference of my head is 55.6cm. According to the table, I bought the size SM. Wearing a helmet for 5 minutes. I felt like my head was being squeezed in a vise. Definitely need to take a minimum of one size larger than indicated in their size chart. ... show more

What can I say, it took me almost 6-weeks to make this purchase. I reviewed so many helmets. The fit is perfect; the vision is optimal; the weight is unnoticed; the visor is great (still purchased a dark silver iridium). The irony of helmet reviews, is you never want to be the rider to attest to it's safety. Should the event ever occur, I have complete confidence in Bell. I have been wearing Bell helmets for years. This is the best one , yet! The fit is perfect for my head. ( size medium ) it is very light weight because of the carbon fiber construction. The face shield works great and gets darker in the sun. This helmet does cost a little more, but what price can you put on head safety? ... show more
