I bought two from the TV. They recharge via cable like your cell phone and hold a really long charge. I was disappointed in this one as it uses three AA batteries, and seems to drop its power when applies to pet's nail. I have used the one I ordered from TV ad. for over a year in my grooming shop. Dogs don't struggle with this like they do with the hand held nail clippers. My pets and the customer's dogs are used to me handling their feel because they have been groomed since they were babies. The light seems to shine directly in my eyes instead of on the nail. I put a piece of black electrical tape over this so that light would shine on nail and not blind me. One point to make is don't hold it on the nail longer than 5 seconds at a time as heat from friction will build up in nail. Move on to another nail and then come back to the first one until desired length is achieved. My pets are always on the grooming table and controlled with a safety harness so they don't struggle as much. I let the pet hear the grinder run lying on the table so they get used to the noise before I apply to the nail. I also use a clear cone (like the elizabethen lamp shade on head if they try to bite the grinder or my hand. We often grind nails after a bath as the nail is somewhat softer. Never do unpleasant things on your lap or floor as dog's consider this "their" area and they will try to control the situation by moving away. On large dogs, I have someone hold them with leash and collar. If nails have been allowed to get long, you might have to grind in short sessions over several days to get them back to correct length.

Just received it today, installed the batteries and tried it out on my dogs Lulu (fatty Amer. Bulldog) and Chuy (Boston Terrier/terrorist). Worked well. They were a little spooked by the drill sounds, but once they figured out that it didn’t hurt, they calmed down and accepted the pedicure. Lulu rolled over on her back and laid there quietly while I finished all four paws. I was only able to finish 3 out of 4 paws on the terrorist; he’s a squirrelly little guy. Like the other reviewers, the tool takes a little while to complete all four paws. Keep in mind this isn’t a buzzsaw so it’s designed to stop if there’s too much pressure on the wheel. This is so that the file doesn’t injure the dog. Be patient and the tool will get the job done. It may be helpful to give your dog positive reinforcement while the pedicure takes place. Give a belly rub or a treat to reinforce good behavior. Hope this helps.

This is always our favorite trimmer for ease of use. It has nail shaped holes and moves well and gets the job done pretty quickly. however, our old one died within a year and this is a replacement. Even on the first couple uses, it seems like the motor runs out and shuts off. Still bought this one bc it’s preferable to some others weve tried.
