  • Best solution for making a queen platform bed frame ...
After trying a steel & wood platform bed frame with slats that were weak and sagged and steel frame that bent every time the bed was moved, I bought a regular queen low bed frame with casters and had ten 2x8x60 large slats cut at my local home depot. now, I have a very sturdy platform bed frame, but the frame was too short (had some mattress overhang), so I bought these extenders. I wish they would have stated what size nuts and bolts were needed in the description (or a review had mentioned). I can tell you what I used, tho. I ended up buying 1/4 -20 x 3/4 inch bolts & matching nuts (really only needed 1/4 -20 x 1/2 but couldn't find them. the 3/4 inch bolts were a little too long but they can be cut down ... and someday maybe i'll get around to that, and the 1/4" diameter fit exactly. anyway, I thought I would leave this review and let unknowing people know what size bolts you need for this extender (and those small holes). as to the extenders working or not? yes, they worked out perfectly and I could get that 10th slat on the bed frame plus a couple of smaller slats to fill in the spaces. I don't like spaces between the slats, as I don't want railroad tracks to wear in my mattress. also, my foam mattress is only 8" thick, so I can feel everything thru it and needed a good solid base to put it on. with a bad back, I need a solid, hard base for the mattress. now, i'm sleeping on the best bed I've owned since developing chronic back problems! note: I installed the bolts facing out to be able to fit the large slats even where the bolts are located on the frame, so the longer bolts are sticking out and could possibly catch on a sheet or cover and tear it. with the bolts facing out, I only had to route out a channel on each end of a couple of slats to be able to fit slats where the bolt heads sit, so I could have all the slats, from head to foot, touching, with no spaces. with all the cheap, particle board platform frames, steel and wood, and steel and wire bed frame being sold that just don't do the job properly, I think this is the ultimate solution and for not much money to boot (bought a bedframe with a double center bar down the middle for stability, tho)! I don't know why one has to make a home-made platform bed in order to get a good solid one (instead of them being available for purchase)! a railroad-tie type situation for slats (what is commonly being sold) just doesn't make sense to me with the foam mattresses. I don't even sleep on the memory foam side of my mattress as I hated sinking down and having the circulation in my arms cut off, so I turned mine to the "wrong" base-foam side and it is working very well that way. this has been an ongoing project for me, and it's finally finished! too many years now of trying to get the perfect bed for sleeping and health of my spine have literally worn me out. i'm a happy sleeper now, tho!!!! :D ... show more

  • Extends new short bed frame / one of very few options
I got a new bed and company supplied a new frame. Afterwards I noticed that the new one for the Calif. King mattress was much shorter than the one I had and the end of the bed dipped down a little. After searching the internet it seemed that they are making most of the frames shorter. I found this solution and tried it. What the other reviewers said is correct, as it has holes that do not match up to my frame. I decided to just slip them in and under the very heavy mattress half way. They seem secure and stay in place for now. At a later time I will try and have someone drill my frame to attach these rail extenders. It's a good idea, but needs some fine tuning on the manufacturing end to work with today's frames. ... show more

  • Standardize bed frames, and their parts. parts
The holes were 1/2", with slide slots, & these homes were so little, I had someone drill 2 larger holes, & we still had to improvise like crazy, but it should be 12" longer, w/ 1/2" holes w/ slide slots... All bed frames should be universal!

  • Sad Result
Universal bed frame extender is not universal and holes will not line up to my frame and is therefore useless. Past time for return. Caught in moving. A total loss.

  • bed claw extension
purchased the bed claw extension rails for a queen guest bed that did not have a footboard. The product is as described. The bed is much more sturdy now. You can actually sit on the end of the bed without worries!!
