  • I didn't expect that.
2003 wrangler 215000 miles Daily driver 5 speed 33s 4:10s I replaced the factory throttle body after bad idle issues and ruled out the idle air control and throttle position sensor. Oringinal throttle body had tons of excessive play in the butterfly causing it to stick. Easy to install, reset the computer to zero out. I didnt expect any change in performance due to "the experts' claiming this wouldnt net any. I test drove and the performance improvment was excellent. Better power and throttle response. How much power? Enough that I down shift less up hills, driving in 40 mp headwinds have no affect anymore. Its more pleasant to commute to work in. Conclusion, I wish I wouldnt have waited until I had to buy it. Its that good. Is it a substitute for a gear swap? No. It will take a sorted out, good driving wrangler and make it noticeably better. ... show more

  • Easy install, obvious difference!
Arrived on time, installed in just a few minutes using existing components. The gaskets supplied seal well, and the 5mm hex bolts supplied also fit properly. When bolting this throttle body to my 1994 4.0L intake, you do notice the obvious step down from 62mm in the throttle body, to 60mm on the intake, however I did notice an immediate increase in throttle response! It seemed to smooth out the power band as well, allowing my Cherokee to pull up hill much easier. I live here in Colorado at 6200ft, so a definite improvement! Remember that your intake/head/exhaust is only as strong as it’s weakest link. So if you just put this throttle body on without opening up any other passages, you may not see an obvious improvement. Make sure to go the extra mile and install a cold air intake, and high flow exhaust to compliment this throttle body. As you have to remove the intake to replace the exhaust manifold, you might as well gasket match and port the intake to the head, as well as the inlet to the plenum to the throttle body, which can be done with a marker, new gaskets, and a Dremel with an aluminum burr. Ported the intake inlet for the TB and the runners into the head, definitely feel a difference in overall powerband still! I’ll say that my idle set screw was low enough that the throttle plate sat flush against the TB bore, enough to stick the throttle closed. A minor adjustment and new loctite solved the issue though. Definitely worth it if you’re looking to squeeze performance out of your 4.0. ... show more

  • Works great, but expect to modify it to make it work out of the box.
The throttle-body itself works great and was a solid improvement over the OEM part, but expect to fix some things out of the box. On mine, the accelerator plate (where all the cables attach) was bent horribly and it took some work to straighten it out. The gaskets that come with the unit are hand-cut and they work, but they're not exact and needed some trimming to fit properly. Depending on how bad yours happen to be, you might need to buy some gasket material and make your own. The unit came with mounting bolts but not the ones to attach the sensors, and given their tendency to corrode or break when trying to remove them from the original, expect to measure them and order some replacements from Fastenal or McMaster-Carr. The bolt-holes for the sensors aren't fully threaded like the OEM unit, so your fasteners must be the full original length to work or they won't grab onto any threads. As for the performance of the unit, it's hard to tell in my case because my OEM throttle-body had a vacuum leak on the accelerator shaft, so part of my performance gain was likely due to fixing the leak. That said, there is a definitive increase in throttle-response and the vehicle does feel faster if only because it responds to input almost immediately. Considerable difference even against my other Jeeps with (functional) OEM throttle-bodies. As for mileage, I'm getting the same mileage as before, but I've also been driving it harder since installing the part, so if you can keep your foot out of it, you might actually see a 1/2 to 1mpg gain. All in all, I'd say this is a worthy part for the cost, especially considering how much other performance throttle-bodies cost. If you're like me and replacing a faulty OEM unit, it's a no-brainer as this is still cheaper and you'll gain a little drivability as a bonus. ... show more

  • Go for it
This took me about an hour to install. A few issues first, then the review: - had to shave my idle sensor to make it fit onto the new TB - had to cut two of the supplied gaskets to make them fit - the supplied torx broke clear off when I used it to remove my old sensors from my TB - after disconnecting the battery to clear the computer, when starting up it idled fine. When applying throttle it STUCK WIDE OPEN (read further) I had to trouble shoot why the butterfly was sticking open as my previous TB had no issues. I used a micrometer to size the butterfly rod and my TPS; they both fit. However, when I lightly bolted the TPS onto this new TB, the butterfly's rod was binding with my TPS. My solution was to use 2 flat washers to evenly space the TPS away from the new TB. This worked. Review: - I can go up hills and not have to downshift. - I wanted to drive my Jeep everywhere today because it was that much more fun to drive - This new TB "woke up" my 4.0 even more after I have just added a new Comp Cam, springs, roller rockers - My Borla exhaust sounds so much better - Engine has very noticeable power increase, almost like new heads Go for it. ... show more

  • Easy bolt on part! Instant butter throttle
Read all the reviews and decided to bite the bullet and order one. Fast shipping and installed less than an hour after getting it on my doorstep! No problem whatsoever with the install, I’ve read that others had to shim the TPS and but I looked at the shafts of both of the TB, where the TPS mounts, on the bench and They were the same exact size. Hardware supplied with the BBK fit perfect and also the gaskets that mates the manifold and TB. Also unplugged my battery and Reset the ECM as well. Specs: 92 Jeep 4.0 Afe cold air intake stage 2 Banks monster 2.5 exhaust system Thunderbolt highflow 2.5 cat Initial Thoughts: It’s makes an awesome sound when you whip the throttle cable Smoothness in the pedal and also responsiveness was instantly noticeable. I would recommend this to anyone. ... show more

  • Fantastic improvement!!!!!
I installed this on a 4.7 lieter stroker I built 2 years ago. I was running the stock throttle body because at the time was running out of money to throw at it. Finally bought the bbk this summer along with a spacer and a high flow intake every thing worked together quite well ! The only issue I Ran into was with the throttle body spacer bolts the had a regular bolt head on them and could not be used because there was no way to fit a socket on them and the bbk ones were to short because they didn't expect for a spacer so I had to go buy some longer bolts like the bbk bolts at the hardware store. THE POWER INCREASE IS EXPONENTIAL.... keep in mind I put this on a 4.7 but however if you are running a stock 4 leiter and running larger than stock tires you probably have the overdrive gear power loss problem i used to with my stock 4 leiter . My belief is this upgrade along with the spacer and intake you will experience a vast improvement best I can figure this combo probably will add at least 15 possible 25/30 hp to your motor also if you upgrade your injectors and rails you may even get more ... show more

  • Zoom Zoom ..... Yes !!!
Easy 30 minute install, Fired it up and Instantly noticed a difference. From idle through to 3500rpm This definitely makes a difference. This is installed on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport 4.0L. I coupled the Install with an aFe Stage 2 Air Intake system . Will be following up in a couple months to see how the mileage is affected. This was a perfect under the hood upgrade. UPDATE ..... The performance has been awesome. When off road and climbing it nice not to have to push harder it makes crawling and climbing much easier on the throttle. Fuel mileage seems to have remained constant at 21 highway and around 17 city and off-road well.... depends on what your doing. I have let a few people drive my XJ and the first thing that say is what did I do because its so crisp and responsive. Even My Repair Shop Mechanic is interest in getting one now for his Jeep! Update 8/22/2017 .... The Performance is still there And A lot had changed on my Xj including Rehearing to 4.10 with lockers, 33's $.5 Inch Lift. Average mileage has been around 16.5. The main thing is the power it has on an engine with 250,000 miles on it. I am going toe upgrading the exhaust this winter to a complete Banks system with 12 port injectors ... ... show more
