  • Helps keep my dog from eating gum on walks
Great product. Sugar-free gum has a chemical in it (xylitol) that can actually kill a dog--look it up online. My dog seemed to find every piece of gum in the neighborhood/park. After taking her to the Vet after she had gotten to some before I could get to her (Vet induced vomiting), my Vet recommended a muzzle for my piece of mind. Note the Vet said if the gum has been chewed, most of the chemical is probably gone but you just don't know. I have a smaller dog -- a 20 pound terrier mix -- so a small amount of the chemical can really cause issues. The instructions recommended using treats/peanut butter to get your dog to like it and that worked great. The first time I put her in and was a pain and when I walked her the first time I had to give her so many treats along the way we were going at a snail's pace. I was worried this would keep up forever, but she got use to it very quickly. I've been using it about 6 weeks. I got a size 2, which is a little big, but it still works. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY
My sweet 6 month old puppy has mange. She scratches and bites at herself all day long. I got this to see if it would help with her biting herself. The first couple of days went really well. I followed the guidelines on using the treats and she was fine with it. The less distracted she was, the more she would try to take it off but then I would distract her and give her treats. After about three days she wasn't having problems. My husband and I had to leave for one hour. Now, I know you can't leave an energetic puppy alone and expect them to not try to ruin something, so I preplanned by working her out in the yard. I put her in her crate, put the muzzle on and we left. An hour later we get back, the muzzle is in PIECES! All over the crate. Every single piece of rubber (or whatever material it is) just chewed right up. I was so shocked because I knew this muzzle was supposed to stop dogs from biting and attacking other dogs. If my little 30lbs lab/terrier mix got that off in probably way less than an hour, I couldn't imagine how quickly a big dog could get it off, especially if they are in the same house as another dog they want to fight. I did not get this for the purpose of stopping her from attacking another dog, however I would say that if anyone was looking for that, do not get this. If anyone is looking to help their dog not bite-scratch themselves this is not the right product. I can stop her when I'm around her. I can't when I'm not. This was supposed to stop her but she just tore it apart. Save your money and don't buy this. ... show more

  • Sturdy and will build.
I bought one a few years ago for my bigger dog and just bought a second for my smaller one. I love how the color matches her for her. She has tried to get this off many times during our walks but she cannot. We have dogs that get out in our neighborhood and I’m afraid they are going to bite these other dogs being protective of me. I really like the peace of mind knowing nothing will happen. ... show more

  • Buy the updated version
After I purchased and started using this muzzle, I learned that the things I didn’t like about it - a regular buckle that’s cumbersome to try and connect quickly behind the head and also a head strap that has a metal clip that’s supposed to fit into the neck buckle holes but really doesn’t - have been changed in a newer model. I would not have purchased this if I’d been aware of that. ... show more

  • ... a dog who chews on things when she gets bored and this definitely helped me trust leaving her home ...
I have a dog who chews on things when she gets bored and this definitely helped me trust leaving her home alone without her getting into too much trouble. No longer need to worry about her finding something toxic as though she can pick things up and carry them in this muzzle, she can't chew them, and that's perfect! The muzzle ventilates extremely well and has space so that a dog can eat and drink while wearing it. It may take a couple tries to buy the right size, and make sure it IS the right size - an oversized muzzle can rub and chaffe and be hell on your dog, and depending how loose, and how clever the dog, make it so they can get access to things regardless of its being worn. A too small muzzle is obviously also hell on your dog and can restrict breathing. I have a 40 pound husky and use size 2. Fits as if it was custom made for her, even without using the forehead strap bit. ... show more

  • Working so far...
I adopted a rescue a couple months ago that has bitten he several times so I was afraid to bathe him. I started loosely putting the muzzle on him after smearing peanut butter inside. He progressed quickly to letting me secure it. Bathe time was easy with a generous helping of peanut butter. The muzzle seems well made, it's easy to clean, and it l doesn't seem too uncomfortable for my little guy. ... show more

  • Good humane muzzle. Measure your pup according to their size chart.
Well made and definitely allows pup to breathe regularly, pant, accept a treat, etc. It may run large, mine did. Best to measure pup snoot length, etc. per their sizing chart which, unfortunately I did not originally see. I use muzzle only for nail grinding. He is extremely nervous about any nail upkeep. ... show more

  • Great fit, didn't come off easily.
Got a size 2 for my jack russel mix, and seems to fit great! Maybe a little on the loose side, but it is very easily adjustable. She of course pawed at it for a bit, but overall it doesn't seem to bother her. She only wears it for a short time (on walks, practicing dog socialization). The true test will be in a week when she is allowed to play with a friend's dog. I know she will snap and snarl a little when this happens, so I will update my review if all ends safely! Wish there was some padding around the nose area. It has not rubbed the skin/fur off like I've seen in some reviews, but I can see how that would become an issue. ... show more
