Description

Dogs can wear muzzles for many different reasons. Whether for the careful socialization of a new rescue dog, general handling or to safely manage aggression, it is important that the dog is happy and secure wearing a muzzle. Dr. Roger Mugford developed the patented Baskerville Ultra Muzzle to provide an optimal muzzle fit for all dogs, including shorter nose breeds such as Boxers. The Ultra Muzzle perfectly combines comfort for the dog and owner peace of mind. In the early days of acclimatising your dog we strongly recommend you use the collar loop and the headstrap for increased security and stability and minimise muzzle movement if your dog tries to remove it. Please note due to dogs muzzles being all shapes and sizes sometimes they get caught between sizes of our products. It is the reason we encourage customers to try our products on in the store first to make sure it’s the right fit. Unfortunately, through Ecommerce this is not possible but I can ensure all sizing info is correct and none of the product has defects.

  • These have been life savers
Size: 3 - Border Collie Color: Black
After 3 1/2 years of getting along beautifully, my two girls, a Siberian Husky and a GSD/Boxer mix, decided it was time to renegotiate the role of Alpha dog. They had never fought before and when they went at each other with no warning (well, I'm sure there were signs that I, as a stupid human missed) I was absolutely terrified. There is no doubt in my mind that they were prepared to fight to the death. Both dogs had to be sewn up and my hand ended up in someone's mouth when I tried to separate them and was pretty severely injured. I was in tears for two days, wondering how I was going to make it work long-term with three dogs, two of whom could have absolutely no contact with each other. They were still total lovebugs and as sweet as ever with me and with my other dog. But they wanted to kill each other. After doing some research and contacting a behaviorist, the idea of muzzles came up. I hadn't thought of muzzles, since I guess I had bought into the idea that they were for "bad" dogs. That's not the case. Muzzles can be an incredible tool. They provide a safe, fail-proof environment and allow us to work on the real issues. They let us be a happy family again. I bought the Baskerville muzzles, as they seemed like the best choice for active dogs since the dogs can pant, drink, take treats and the ventilation is excellent. It honestly only took about 10 minutes each to get the girls comfortable with letting me put them on. As recommended, I held the muzzle cupped in my hand with plenty of choice treats at the bottom. Each dog put their face in on their own to retrieve the treats. Once the muzzle was seen as a treat dispenser, it was no problem to get it buckled around the dog's head. It is a bit of a pain to find the holes in the strap, but when I found the best fit for each dog, I marked that hole with a dab of paint so I could locate it quickly. I used the over the head straps at first, but they were always flopping in the dogs' eyes. I took them off and neither dog has ever pulled their muzzle off. Truthfully, they're so used to them that they don't try to pull them off. These muzzles have just become a part of life and neither of my girls has any problem wearing one. When they see the muzzles, they sit nicely and are more than happy to put their face in as I hold the muzzle out. They seem to know it means family time. When wearing their muzzles, they get along great and play together without any aggression. They're very active, athletic dogs and wearing these particular muzzles has allowed them to remain so. Neither their vision nor their breathing is hindered in the least. They both realized right away that they could drink with no difficulty. They even snuggle together for naps, just like they used to. I think it puts them on equal footing, and since they know they can't fight, they don't even bother. I know it's the muzzles that make the difference because when they're not wearing them, hackles are raised and they still snarl at each other through a gate. I don't ever leave the dogs unattended with the muzzles on. I have this great fear of someone getting caught on something or somehow getting them off and fighting. During those times, they're in separate rooms. I also take the muzzles off and put up a baby gate every few hours and at meal times, just to give them a break. However, given the choice, my 3 dogs want to be together, so they do wear their muzzles for many hours at a time. The one problem we had was with rubbing on the tops of the dogs' snouts. Like I said, my dogs do wear these a lot, but the rubbing was enough to cause discomfort and rub fur off. I added some neoprene padding and that took care of the issue, but I'd like to see more padding in the design. I'm so happy that someone recommended muzzles and this brand specifically. I was so afraid of the logistics of keeping my dogs separated while still providing plenty of love and attention and exercise to each of them. I was scared of what would happen if I made a mistake and forgot to close a door. How would we go hiking? How would we take road trips? With the Baskerville Ultra Muzzles, I can have my loves together and we can do all of the things we've always done. These have simply become part of our daily routine and everyone is safe and happy and loved. I hope we can work through the aggression to the point that we won't need the muzzles. But, if not I know we'll be okay and I can't explain how much that means. ... show more

  • Make sure to get the right size
Size: 5 - Labrador Color: Black
my dog's length is 3.5 and around the nose is about 11.5-12. I went for size 5. As you can see from the picture it is to big. I tightened the straps and they were still to loose. He was able to get it off. I returned for the size 4 and the 4 seems to fit better. Follow the video and don't just put this on your dog if he's not used to a muzzle. Give him the treats and work with him. My dog kept trying to rub this off his face. He did however fall asleep with it on for a short nap and can drink water and breath good in it. ... show more

  • No More Leash Chewing!
Size: 4 - Springer Spaniel Color: Black
I don’t usually write reviews, but this muzzle has really been so helpful. My dog is a Lab/Pitbull mix. He’s 70lbs of pure muscle. We adopted him two years ago, and we have tried everything to help him walk better on a leash-harnesses, Gentle-Leader, Pinch collar, E-collar, private trainer. Nothing has worked to help with him freaking it yet when he sees another dog on a walk. He really wants to say hi; gets frustrated, and turns and bites his leash. He’s practically chewed through every leash, and he also redirects his frustration on me. So, this muzzle was really a last resort, but it’s been really great. My dog can eat treats, drink, pant with it on. It has stopped his frustration chewing. He still pulls when he encounters another dog, but it doesn’t escalate to chewing and biting the leash anymore. This is a big improvement for him and me. I was getting to the point where I was dreading taking him out or resorting to taking him out at night. This muzzle has saved our walks! The only downside is that it rubs his nose/snout a bit. So, I put several bandaids around the nose area on the muzzle to cushion it, and it’s no longer an issue. ... show more

  • Great but sizing is weird.
Size: 2 - Westie Color: Black
Leaves room for the dog to eat treats, drink water, and pant. She looks like Hannibal Lector so keeps dogs away from her. Doubly useful. The sizing was weird. I went 2 sizes below the suggested (by Amazon) size and it's still too big. I used the Petco link someone provided in the Q&A for sizing. That was super helpful. There's a big size discrepancy between what Amazon suggests and what the link suggests, and was still a size too big. ... show more

  • Likely the best muzzle on Amazon
Size: 3 - Border Collie Color: Black
I've seen better muzzles but don't know where to buy them. This one works pretty good. Takes a few minutes to get it adjusted. Dog can accept a treat & drink thru the muzzle with slight difficulty. Following sizing chart the measurements of my Heeler were a size 3. The first Amazon seller shipped me a size 1. After a refund and reorder from alternate seller the sizing was accurate. ... show more

  • Runs big.
Size: 4 - Springer Spaniel Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. According to the measurements a size 4 should fit my blue heeler. It is a bit big on her. I will likely use this muzzle for my larger dog and order her a size 3. I love how even though it is a bit big, she cannot get it off. It straps to her collar and behind her head which ensures the muzzle is secure. Muzzle training her was so easy because of the space between the bars. I could feed her treats through the muzzle. She can still open her mouth, drink water, eat, and pant if she wants. Overall a really good product. Just be careful with the sizing. ... show more

  • Just got it today but I think he likes it...
Size: 1 - Border Terrier Color: Black
My baby is a 16 lb terrier, wearing a size 1. Fits perfectly. I recently got the type that has just one strap across the nose and that seemed fine except that it kept itching his nose. I need a cage muzzle to fly on a plane so I decided to try this one. This one doesn't sit on his nose so he's not itchy, in fact, he was kinda falling asleep within minutes of wearing it. Lol idk but I'm beginning to think that wearing a nose piece reduces stress for him. I'll try and update later after we've tried it out in public. ... show more
