Great product.. haven’t had an issue with the tool. I’ve used the derby razor in combination. All seems to be working great so far.. bit hard to get the razors on. But once you get the gist it fits. Idk if it’s cause of the type of razor or the tool. But it works.

The switch to a straight razor is not to be taken lightly as it takes some practice and if you dont have a good one - can easily cut up your face. This product on the other hand is very well designed, sits in your hand well balanced and makes shaving fun and easy. Easy to replace the blades and provides a very close shave. Razors are most effective when made with precision. The only thing precise about this razor is the way it fails on every point. The construction looks good from the side in a picture, but in the hand feels rough and clunky. The scales are too thick and feel like they were machine cut en masse and assembled with little done to finish them. Rough spots that could have easily been sanded were not meaning that it catches on your hand as you manipulate it. The scales are attached with a pivot pin screw that is overly tight making your grip harder to adjust. The spine, face, and tang are just a rolled over hollow piece of metal, which would be fine, except that the spine is slanted in one direction and the tail is crookedly inserted in the other. The heel seems to have a hole drilled through it for the pivot pin that is at an angle, meaning that the tail is at an angle. That shiny part at the bottom of the tail is sharp. My finger caught on it every time I handled it. The blade holders themselves are almost straight. That part maybe helps the face hold on to the cartridge by increasing friction. I would be worried that it contributes to the next problems though. Neither of the blade holders have their bumps and notches aligned properly to the blade holder meaning that the blade is never straight. It should protrude the same amount along the entire edge but doesn't and cannot be made to. Additionally I find that the blades tend to curve when placed into the holders. This means you are shaving with a crooked and bowed blade. I have now given it a couple tries and don't trust it. If you do use it do NOT close it with a blade inserted as it will damage or dull the toe. This blade cuts, but it's just as likely to be you as your beard. ... show more

My two concerns with any disposable straight razor kit was a lack of weight and a loose hinge -- this has neither of those issues. My concern now is with the blade tray design -- specifically, how it doesn't match the image with usage instructions on the Amazon listing page. I thought this razor would have a hinged latch to lock the blade in place, as many (most?) similar kits work. However, this product has a removable tray that slides in from the tip (I've posted a photo showing this). I don't feel any grooves in the track to help snap anything into place -- I think the tray is being held purely by friction, and I'd expect that will lessen with time and use. Also, once a blade is inserted into the tray, sliding the tray into the holder scraped a significant amount of paint from the blade guard due to friction -- I don't see how this would be a concern with the hinged latch approach. After wearing down the excess paint by sliding the tray/blade in and out for a few minutes, the issue is mostly gone -- though, I'm still seeing the occasional flakes (you can maybe see this my photo of the logo). Breaking a double-sided razor blade in half will probably result in a bend near the break. Place the blade into the tray with the bend curving away from the tray, and the tray's spine is thick enough to prevent the bend from touching anything and throwing off the blade angle (you can maybe see this in my photo of the blade tray -- specifically, how the broken edge bends away from the tray). However, I don't think the blade's clearance from the blade guard is uniform -- it looks like, with mine, the blade sticks out a bit more toward the tip (you can maybe see this my photo of the logo). Also, the listing says 20 pre-cut Derby blades. I got 10, double-sided-so-you-have-to-break-them, "Black Widow" branded blades. I tossed in an Astra blade and tried a quick clean up -- not a full shave. I like the weight, the stiffness of the hinge, and the cleanness of the cut. No razor burns. I'll take this guy seriously until I feel the blade tray slipping or notice issues seating new blades over time; then, I'll have to move on. ... show more
