  • Take it slow and practice.
Color: Red-Black
Just because I'm in my 50s that doesn't mean I'm a pro. First time to use a straight razor and I always cut my face shaving with this. Too sharp! And when you get a hang of shaving one side, now you have hold it in a different angle to shave the other side of your face and I cut myself again. So, I give up shaving one side of my face and use the gillette standard shaving razor. I spend more time watching YouTube on someone else showing how to shave. Practice - don't give up - and good luck! LOL This is not for beginners razor. FYI ... show more

  • Quality barbershop grade straight razor
Color: Red-Black
So I use this razor 2 or 3 times a month when I have a formal occasion where I need a closer straight razor shave to the areas of my face and neck. I shave myself, so its exactly what I was looking for, something strong, fits ergonomically, and love the pinky support. Fits every single edge blade I've used and grabs the blade tight. Perfect for line ups and precision shaves. Love the leather case too. ... show more

  • good construction, questionable design, BAD listing information
My two concerns with any disposable straight razor kit was a lack of weight and a loose hinge -- this has neither of those issues. My concern now is with the blade tray design -- specifically, how it doesn't match the image with usage instructions on the Amazon listing page. I thought this razor would have a hinged latch to lock the blade in place, as many (most?) similar kits work. However, this product has a removable tray that slides in from the tip (I've posted a photo showing this). I don't feel any grooves in the track to help snap anything into place -- I think the tray is being held purely by friction, and I'd expect that will lessen with time and use. Also, once a blade is inserted into the tray, sliding the tray into the holder scraped a significant amount of paint from the blade guard due to friction -- I don't see how this would be a concern with the hinged latch approach. After wearing down the excess paint by sliding the tray/blade in and out for a few minutes, the issue is mostly gone -- though, I'm still seeing the occasional flakes (you can maybe see this my photo of the logo). Breaking a double-sided razor blade in half will probably result in a bend near the break. Place the blade into the tray with the bend curving away from the tray, and the tray's spine is thick enough to prevent the bend from touching anything and throwing off the blade angle (you can maybe see this in my photo of the blade tray -- specifically, how the broken edge bends away from the tray). However, I don't think the blade's clearance from the blade guard is uniform -- it looks like, with mine, the blade sticks out a bit more toward the tip (you can maybe see this my photo of the logo). Also, the listing says 20 pre-cut Derby blades. I got 10, double-sided-so-you-have-to-break-them, "Black Widow" branded blades. I tossed in an Astra blade and tried a quick clean up -- not a full shave. I like the weight, the stiffness of the hinge, and the cleanness of the cut. No razor burns. I'll take this guy seriously until I feel the blade tray slipping or notice issues seating new blades over time; then, I'll have to move on. ... show more

  • Check the blade retainer prongs before loading-it makes a HUGE difference
Spend the extra few bucks and get the version that has a rotating arm over where the blade is mounted; this model has a slider that is tricky to load a blade into. No issues with rivet joining handle and blade arm. Easier to use than i though a staight razor would be, once the blade was mounted. UPDATE 12/30/21: I reviewed the slide shank during my last blade change and found that the retaining prongs weren't bent out enough from the slide shank to allow the blade to completely seat to the point where the blade rests on the prongs and studs. I was able to use a small screwdriver to push these out just enough for the black to seat correctly. The blade doesn't move now; it also is less exposed, less than the 1.5mm listed for the products. It's MUCH easier to use now and the nicks and cuts are greatly reduced when the blade is seated properly. ... show more
