I purchased this kit for my 01 wrangler with a 2.5l and Happy with it so far. The picture of the kit here and on Banks site are not correct, the tail pipe is actually 2 piece and the muffler is a rolled case, not a fully welded and polished. It took longer to remove the old exhaust than it did to install the kit. I dropped the skid plate to get to the flange nuts, it can be done without if your hardware cooperates, mine didn’t. Fit was excellent and I have no rattles. This is a little louder than a stock exhaust under acceleration but quiets quite a bit just cruising and I didn’t get any droning. Probably would sound really good with a real engine, but even with the 2.5 it doesn’t sound bad. It also comes with a really nice polished tip that I left off, I smashed the last tail pipe shut which pushed the system forward and busted the muffler doing some rock crawling so I left it off, it’s large so might be something to considered depending on what you do with your rig. It does look good installed, I just know it won’t last for my application. If your looking for a solid, great sounding, and affordable car back setup, this is definitely one you should check out. ... show more

    • The performance 4.0L Jeep Exhaust IMO!
Excellent exhaust! Good quality and sounds fantastic. Its a mellow hummmm while driving and once you get into it it sounds awesome. Not loud and obnoxious, but smooth and powerful. I highly recommend it. The chrome tip looks great. Fairly easy install if your muffler/catalytic converter nuts haven't rusted away like mine did... I had to support the transmission with a trans jack, drop the transfer case skid plate and use a saw zaw to cut the bolt between the cat and muffler joining point. Once I did that which wasn't hard, just cumbersome. Would be a sinch with 2 people. (The skid plate is probably 60 plus lbs) . Definitely worth the trouble. It had nothing to do with Banks Exhaust. Its the rusty Jeep bolts. ... show more

    • Good system but a couple of flaws
I installed this system on a 2001 TJ with the 4.0L engine (286,000km) .Stock muffler was going and this kit was priced pretty reasonable for stainless.The picture shows a one piece pipe,it is two pieces in the kit I got.This is not a problem.Actually I got a better fitment with a two piece pipe due to the fact I could move it around to get a precise fit.I also bought a couple of Pypes HVC21 2 1/2 diameter 1" wide stainless steel exhaust clamps because I didn't want to use the two steel ones Banks provided with the kit.Liked the all stainless install (that's just me)The only issue you will have with the install is that the pipe comes pretty close to the passenger rear shock.I read in a product review in JP magazine that this was a issue so I wrapped some Therm o-Tech heat shield tape,around the shock, near the area.You don't want to cook your shock oil.This tape works great to protect against heat soak .From my experience with small block Chevy's and starter/header closeness this tape stops the nightmare for radiant heat issues.The sound takes a little getting use to at first but is pleasant after a while and there is no drone at highway speeds.There is definitely some increase in torque at mid-range and top end.I don't know how much,may-be 20 HP-20 ft.pounds on the butt dyno,but the old heap did get up and go a lot better!ONE YEAR UPDATE....I'm updating this review after more than a year just to give my impressions of the sound,durability,etc.First off the sound is as close to the sound of a 5.0 Mustang with headers than what I can describe...it sounds great!I'm a 60 year old fart and to me the muffler is a deep,mellow burble on downshifting and a nice subdued growl on acceleration.If you like to hear your engine then you'll like this system.The pipes have gotten a tad rust covered but that's expected because the nickel content can't be too high in pipes or they will crack due to constant heating and cooling,to me that's no big deal.The muffler is still shiny and the tip is a tad yellow.All in all for the money great system! ... show more

The perfect sound for the inline 6 Jeep 4.0. The banks kit is very high quality and worth every penny. Would recommend this to all jeep owners. I built the 4.0 for my 97 wrangler and installed it last month with an existing dynomax exhaust. This banks system is a million times better and freed up some mid range throttle response around the 1500rpm area. Not a ton but definitely noticeable! Love the muffler tip also! Cant say enough good about it. ... show more

    • For jeep tj, sounds good. Will need a welder and experience for proper fit with no rubbing.
So, 1998 wrangler. No cats,, header with some more headwork. muffler and tip- extremely good quality, sounds absolitly amazing, aggressive as well, looks very good and clean. I'm not sure.. I'm just going to say it. The engineer on this project, got paid way to much for some halfa$$ work. Put in the correct year jeep and they sent me the muffler adapter for the other year. The over the axel pipe hangers appear to have been welded on backwards which causes the pipe to sit inch and half off, made it extremely difficult to put the hangers in the bushing and slide the pipes together. So it was either A keep the axle pipe off the shock, and the tap of the tip will have to be bend in and it will be smoothed against the aftermarket bumper that provides more room then the stock bumper or b- the pipe will rest against the shock to give the proper look. Next was the tallest part of the exhaist where it humps over the axel. About 2 inches too high so it would of rubbed against the heat shield, well we had to take that out to make the 4 inch adapter piece fit that we had to go purchase because the pitch was too high and it would of pulled the muffler back too far to put together. ... show more

Just installed on a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. I really like the exhaust. Installation was a breeze, worst part was removing the old tailpipe. Muffler sounds great. Some people commented it's too close to the shock. Simply assemble the tailpipe loosely, then position it away from the shock as you tighten up the clamps. Love the sound. A little deeper than stock, but not too loud. ... show more

    • Very glad i choose this exhaust for my Jeep tj.
Tone is fantastic at all RPMs. Goes from light hum at idle, to a decent growl from 2-3k RPM, to an outright howl above that. Installation was easy. Slight increase in highway MPG, but probably not enough offset the cost. I'm very happy with this purchase.
