I've had this extender for a couple months, and it works wonderfully with the 2nd row captain's chairs in my Subaru Ascent. The dogs had been less than happy going for rides because they didn't have enough room in the middle row to lie down, and they also didn't like being farther away from us in the 3rd row. This extender was the solution we needed. I chose this particular extender because it appeared to be made from nicer materials than others, and it was the only one that specifically said it would work with captain's chairs (per the APetsPlanet website). It arrived in a nice carrying bag and fully assembled, meaning that I didn't have to install the support panels in the cover. I just had to unpack it and set it up it in my car. It installs in minutes simply by unfolding it and hooking the support straps around the headrests. I love the zip-up door protector panels, too. They keep the dogs from scratching the door vinyl and also prevent them from trying to jump out as soon as the car door opens. The three support panels are very sturdy and don't give at all if I lean on them while reaching across the back seat to secure the dogs into their seat belts. My dogs are 25 and 40 lbs., and there is no give or buckling beneath them or in the areas that cover the gap between the seats and the footwells. I also appreciate that the window screen makes it easier for us to see them and vice versa. The first time we used the extender, both dogs immediately settled down with contented sighs and were much calmer and more relaxed during the ride. I also got the coordinating mat to provide more cushion and warmth, and they are now as happy as can be riding in the car. If you don't want the mat, then I would suggest putting a blanket or two down to provide additional comfort for your furry family member. ... show more

I have been trying to come up with a way to make my 2 German Shepherds more comfortable in the back seat so they don't slip down from the back seat. I was planning on making something myself, when I found this extender. It's perfect and just what I had in mind. It gives them much more room, no slipping down, and they are now comfortable. It protects the back seat, the back of my front seats and even the door, something I really wanted. Easy to clean, sturdy and stays in place well. I highly recommend this for anyone who doesn't have an SUV, but still wants enough room for their large dogs (or small) in the back seat. ... show more

The board on the bottom is strong enough to hold two large dogs and keep them in the back seat and protect the interior. I like product and the bottom as it seems sturdy enough so your dog has more room. I also like that it has all four sides. However, the sides next to the door are flimsy material. It comes with a strap that holds the sides up that I string through the hand grip on the roof but it is still flimsy. It would be better with a thicker material. Also, the middle mesh piece is flimsy and too low. It will not keep a dog out of the front seat. The only thing keeping my dog out of the front seat is the seat buckle strap that’s clipped to her harness. Also, the side zippers are very small and very cheap. I don’t suppose they will last long, however we will see. All-in-all, I think it was too expensive for what I got. ... show more

After years of my poor dogs trying to jump from the back-back into the backseat so they can stick their noses out the window and smell all the smells…and we didn’t want that since it was 1) unsafe and 2) caused them to fall into the footwell whenever we decelerated, we stumbled across this genius design. I have 2 rescued 65+lb coonhounds and it allows them the entire depth and width of the backseat to relax and stretch out. Plus, there is a Velcro section that opens to allow the INCLUDED seatbelt attachment to click into the belt port and then clip to your dog’s seatbelt harness. It’s also waterproof, so if you have messy drinkers, your seats won’t get soaked. And if someone gets carsick, cleanup is a breeze. My old lady hound (14 yo) is getting clingier everyday and the zip-down mesh between the back of the front seats allowed her to rest her head on the center armrest so she could be touching one of us, while still clipped into her seatbelt. The side zip panels have straps we can clip over the oh-sh** handles, above the windows, to keep them from leaping out the door the minute we open them. This helps avoid the complex yoga poses and inventive curse words that ensue when we’re in the front seat, trying to attach leashes to excited dogs in the backseat. And this handy dandy contraption comes with its own zip-up storage bag that it ACTUALLY FITS INTO…no forceful oragami folding is needed in order to get it back into the case. We road-tested it during our recent drive from DC to Savannah, GA and back and it was a much more comfortable drive for all of us! All in all, this is the best investment we’ve made in a long while. ... show more

I got this delivered today and after putting it in my car i ran to the review section!!! I've been through 4 of these things and every single one has been crap! But not this one! I have a white doberman who sheds like crazy. All the others have been horrible to clean ,made of cheap paper type fabric with cheap zippers and plastic buckles. This one here has metal buckles and high quality zippers! The leather is not cheap looking plastic and the backing is like canvas type material. This company paid attention to detail from corner to corner even down to the fine details . I would most definitely recommend this to anyone who owns a large dog who goes with them alot. It even comes with 2 seat belt buckles to attach to your dog and a free gift of poop bags and dispenser. There was a storage bag included but it'll never be used here cause my big guy goes everywhere hes allowed to with me. ... show more
