Description

Winner of the 2020 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre I looked at her, wanting her to laugh. Wanting her to share in the joke. But she didn’t. She just stared. I knew then, in that moment – that she had taken it literally... Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Richard Gadd has a chilling story to tell about obsession, delusion and the terrifying ramifications of a fleeting mistake. This powerful and engaging monologue play portrays a man brought to the edge by the actions of a chance encounter which takes a toll on all aspects of his life. In doing so it asks important questions about victims, the justice system and how one decision has the ability to change your life. Read more

Fantastic play! Am working on Baby Reindeer: New York the sort of sequel to this, which I hope will be on Netflix as well, to tell Sam Singh's story, a transgender man's about being stalked/abused, which is a lot like Boys Don't Cry, I wrote a letterboxd review of the first series, love that I find it so relatable, similar happened to me with a group of anime cosplayers and my own rapist, hope to get a review from Richard Gadd. Loved it, well done, wish I could watch the one man show somewhere. Expect Baby Reindeer: New York's play to be published on October 5th, 2025. ... show more

  • Outstanding one man script
After watching the show on Netflix, and having acted professionally, with a one man show, I found this actual script to be very compelling and insightful. It brings a deeper level of meaning to the performed piece. Valuable for actors!

It’s hard for me to say this was so good because this was someone’s reality and it’s really sad and scary, but he is a really good story teller. I read this after watching the show on Netflix and the fact that he played himself and having to replay traumatic events that happened to him takes a lot of guts. I feel like it’s good to watch the show then read the book because the show has a lot more details and helps with understanding what’s going on in the book. ... show more

  • Brilliant play.
It is truly remarkable to read this play after seeing the Netflix series adaptation. I can only imagine how electrifying it must have been to see Richard Gadd performing this live on stage. I highly recommend this for fans of the series.

  • Loved the movie… but
The book is a play, and is written in that format. So it can’t compare to the movie… In fact, it’s not even like reading a book of the same story.

  • Incredible.
Decided to reach this after the Netflix show. As a huge fan of live theater and as an actor myself, I’d love to have the chance to see this in person someday. I’m amazed by Gadd’s raw honesty and willingness to share the messiest parts of his trauma. Really vulnerable and well written.
