This is my first Away suitcase. Typically, I think all suitcases are the same and I despise paying a lot for luggage because we all know they're thrown around and treated like junk by airline handlers. We are a family of 6, we travel internationally every year, and my husband travels (executive platinum status) for work. So our suitcases go through a lot. In my experience, they don't last due to the wear and tear and poor treatment, so I hate to buy expensive luggage. Now, to this suitcase, its definitely checked baggage size, but not huge. Its definitely a medium sized bag so I would say this would be more appropriate for my husband's business travel when he's on a long haul trip. It is really well made, the wheels are smooth as butter (my 13 and 10 yo were riding it around the house like a hover board when I opened up the box). The handle comes up easily, and the zipper is nice. It has a built in locking feature and you can scan the box to take you to a website with directions to set your own lock code. I have not done this yet, as honestly, you can't do air or cruise travel with a locked suitcase so it seems pointless (maybe if you were only traveling by land and no security is handling your bag). It has lots of compartments and a laundry or shoe bag included inside. It opens like a clamshell with each side being the same size (not my favorite arrangement for packing, TBH but its how most hard sided cases are designed. It comes with a magic eraser to clean scuffs and other marks off the suitcase. Honestly, that isn't important to me for the all reasons I've stated. It also comes with a plain black luggage tag. I think its ridiculously overpriced ($345 for a medium sized suitcase?) but maybe its a magic suitcase that will solve all my packing problems. Giving it a 4 star - great bag, and I can see no flaws except for the outrageous price.

Suitcase was nice and arrived well packaged. I already own a smaller away suitcase so this was going to create a set. No problem with the suitcase but the color was just "off." Not sure what color they were going for but, to me, it was just ugly. Kind of like a pink shirt got in the wash with a black shirt that faded and you ended up with a dingy color. Soooo, back it went. Again, the suitcase was nice I just didn't care for the color

Let me start by saying we are an Away luggage family. We each have our own large carry on from Away and they typically serve 90% of our needs for weekends away and business trips. But every now and then, it's just not possible to squeeze everything in for a bit longer trip and so that's when this medium checked bag comes into play. If you are familiar with their ubiquitous carry-ons -- and if you have been on a plane in the last 5 years, it would hard to not be familiar -- this is just basically a scaled up version. By that I mean it's got the same organizational structure and a very familiar look and feel. On the organizational point, the bag opens like a clamshell with both halves of approximately the same depth. Once side has a mesh zipper enclosure and the other has a panel you cinch down to compress items underneath. I've never found the latter to be all that effective a means to really compress things in any serious way, but it helps with organization. In fact, I cracked the frame of the compression panel in another Away bag when I tried to make it do too much compression work. Still works totally fine, but just a reminder that there are limit to that function. By the way, that panel has a zippered pocket on it too for you to throw some smaller things like charge cables. It's where my AirTag resides as well as plastic bags that I use for laundry during a trip. The real compression magic comes when you close a seemingly overstuffed back up and sit on it to be able to close the zipper. I've been amazed how much you can stuff in when you do that -- and the fact that the zipper shows no distress. A few other things to note that are real positives. 1. The empty suitcase is remarkably light. So if you are pushing weight limits with other contents, the bag is not going to be part of the problem. 2. It's got an effective built in TSA friendly locking mechanism. I'm sure it's not the most secure, but just a deterrent. Unfortunately if you want to use a heavier duty lock, you probably won't be able to make it work as the zipper pulls wouldn't have a place to thread a lock through. The lock is embedded into the case of the bag itself. 3. Unlike the carry on bags, this has an indent on the bottom as a place to help grab the bag. That's helpful a you put the bag up on a luggage rack or something like that. 4. The wheels are very smooth and based on our other Away bags seem surprisingly durable. 5. The extendable handle is also easy to use and comfortable. Overall, between the handle and the wheels, the bag feels very maneuverable. I will note that the bag can definitely scuff as it deals with the abuse of life in a plane cargo hold. It comes with a little magic eraser type thing to help remove those -- but I haven't really tried that and candidly don't really care. But if you want a bag that will forever look pristine, you might need to look elsewhere. But that also seems like a bit of an unrealistic expectation. So overall, this is another great addition to our Away collection that has really upped our travel game. 5 stars.

I had a great brand new suitcase and a wheel casing broke on its maiden voyage--and it's all crickets from the manufacturer. So I decided to give this one a whirl as I've got a couple of trips on the near horizon. First off, it came in a super sturdy, waxed cardboard carton. Then, I took it for a spin right out of the box and it just g-l-i-d-e-d oh so silky smooth on hard floor and carpet. It is very light and has the built-in TSA-approved combo lock, and a bottom grab handle as well as the side one. A hard-sided clamshell will be new for me, but it has plenty of zippered mesh pockets and a compression piece--I use compression packing cubes and even had an amazing compression hanging closet, so we will have to see how this compares when I load 'er up. It comes with a magic eraser to deal with scuffs but, really, scuffs come free with your ticket, so I don't anticipate using that much--maybe it will come in handy for a really bad mark or something. The only thing I wish it had was an expander--I also use my expander to pack and then zip it up to compress, but perhaps the compression features will be so amazing I won't miss the expander at all.
