Although I have only used it once, I like it, but will have to wait to have a detailed opinion. My assessment of it will be completed in 12 months since I stretch my relaxers out. Thankfully, it didn't burn at all, but my hair was extremely textured to the point where it almost looked as if I never had a touch-up. FYI: I purchased normal strength. I wanted a textured look, but not this textured. On the other hand, I love the fact that this product (along with other affirm products) gives you soooo much information on it such as expiration date of product, percentage of sodium hydroxide,directions (of course), etc. As mentioned earlier, this product is packed with information and I LOVE IT since I don't have to call the company. You also get an enormous amount of relaxer, which you can share with others. So far, it is worth it. Update: Now, I have been using this same tube of Affirm Relaxer for 23 months (I may be able to do my hair 2-3 more times before it is gone). Before using this relaxer, my hair was already way past my bra strap while being bone straight. Before using the relaxer, I had a decent amount of thickness and it was easy to comb through my dry hair because my hair was really straight. Well, up until 10 weeks ago using this relaxer, my hair has been hard to comb through, took hours to detangle, and always would have an enormous amount of texture which caused headache knots. All of this resulted it breakage. I had to do a corrector relaxer treatment twice, which scared me enormously ( I couldn't take the hours of detangling anymore after a year). Now, my hair is silky smooth and easy to comb because I do relax to a straighter look. I have lost a lot less hair in my detangling phase. Relaxing bone straight could be disastrous, but I preserve hair better with bone straight hair due to the following reasons: I only comb through my hair maybe 1x every 4-8 weeks; when I do comb it, I comb from the ends up (I never rip through tangles); I use coconut oil and fingers to separate tangles and use a safety pin to undue knots (if that doesn't work, then I use my hair scissors to cut the know as close as possible to the knot); I only use heat of any kind 1x every 8 weeks (always use heat protectant and low heat that is set at 300 degrees or less); and I never use a brush or blow dryer. All of this has resulted in me having extremely lengthly hair. My hair would have been longer if I would have continued to relax bone straight because it worked for me, but I thought that texture hair was the way to go. All it ended up doing was cause me to lose hair. Although some things work wonderful for others, it's important to do what you can tolerate (equally important to listen to hair). It will prevent you from being frustrated a pulling your hair out. So, the verdict is that I l really like this relaxer because of cost, information provided on package, how it makes my hair feel, etc. It won't expire until 9/29/2014, so I have time to use the remainder. ... show more

So I wanted to be able to wash my hair and it just air dry and look decent. I posted my before hair when I wash it and I just hated it. I usually wear my hair up because it was so hard to manage. I refused to cut it short because it looks so bad short because it’s so thick. Long story short I was not sure if this product would work on my hair. I was very nervous to try it but was ready to let my hair fall out if it didn’t work. I was pleasantly surprised with the results of this product. I purchased the 4 step process and had my sister do my relaxer at home. I think the photos say it all. I can now wear my hair down and not be miserable. My hair is pretty kinky or nappy, but beacuse I've relaxed my ahir since I was 8 you would never be able to tell how bad it actually was. I have been using alter-ego no lye relaxer for the past 2 years, and while it's a great realxer, works wonders for my mom and sister, I didn't "love" the results on my hair. I tried 2 other relaxers and my hair dresser finally recommended I use Affirm, which is what she uses. My mom immediately asked me what I did to my hair because it looked better than ever. When I relaxed my hair at the beginning of the summer with a different relaxer (not alter ego), the 90 degree weather made my roots thick and kinky immediately, but not this relaxer!!! Day 3 in 90+ degree weather and my roots are still silky straight. Of course I touch it up in the morning with the hair dryer but it doesn't take much. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I hate that I couldn't buy a single application to try it out, I had to buy the 4 lbs, luckily it looks like I'll be using all 4 lbs of it. Also, my hair dresser had to leave it in for well over the 15 minutes recommended time in order for it to really take, but that may very well be beacuse I bought the "normal" realxer, I think I may go with the "resistant" once I finish this one. Be sure to purchase with the normalizing shampoo and other recommended products. ... show more

This is one of the best relaxers I have used in a long time. I purchased it after years of using no lye relaxers on my hair. As a result my hair is very dry. I used the Affirm Fiberguard relaxer and it has worked really well on my hair. I have relaxed my hair twice with it and I only have good things to say about it. You will not be disappointed. I have thick coarse hair but the regular strength relaxed my hair just fine. My only caution is to work really fast if you are tender headed like I am. It starts to tingle much faster than the no lye relaxers. ... show more

After 5 or 6 years of wearing my hair natural, I was ready to straighten my hair again but didn't want it "bone straight." I wanted to keep some natural texture and this perm works great for that. When my hair was relaxed years before, I couldn't get it to hold a curl to save my life which is one of the reasons why I got so sick of relaxed hair. This perm is a nice midway option. After perming my hair with this product, it is very easy and less expensive to maintain than my natural hair (I spent lots of $$$ always searching for products to control and style with). I simply wash my hair, put Dabur Vatika Hair Oil 300ml (Pack of 2 Bottles) in it, and style or braid it so that it air dries. When I release my braid, my hair holds those curls for days. I don't use any blow dryers, flat irons or curling irons on my hair as I used to when my hair was relaxed before. With the help of this product, I'm very happy I went "un-natural." ... show more
