We have a Harbor Freight manual tire changer that we modified to better change tires. This adapter is a key part of the modification, allowing us to change tires mounted on rims with larger center holes. Being it is made of aluminum, it is very unlikely to scratch a wheel, and yet it really grabs ahold and does a great job centering the wheel on the tire changer. Great price, too. ... show more

    • Damage free fixture for alloy wheels

So you finally decided to buy a manual tire changer and discovered a serious shortcoming. If you use the tool as supplied, it will damage your expensive alloy wheels. The supplied holddown fixture is a steel cross that bridges the area over the rim center hole and will seriously damage the finish. Enter the AUTOVIC centering cone. This precision machined part is CNC turned from an aluminum billet and fits snugly onto the spindle of the tire changer no matter the source of any manual machine as they all appear to be manufactured at the same factory. As long as the spindle measures 1.67” then this will fit. The locking tube then is spun down onto the cone and snugged up and the rim will be secured to the machine base with no chance for damage as the cone only contacts the wheel inside the hole where the center cap mounts. This cone is available in a smaller size which fits all the alloy wheels I tried, import and domestic up to a 2.9” center hole, and a larger version that fits up to 4.4” for just a few bucks more. The larger version will work nicely with alloy or steel wheels as it is required to fit the larger diameter of the rotor hub of the vehicle and no point in tearing up the paint on the steel wheels either. Both appear to be machined from 6061T6 aircraft grade, or maybe 7075 alloy to give years of tough and corrosion-free service. ... show more

This really helps centering a wheel and holding in place on a manual tire changer. I'm going to be building a manual balancer in which I plan to order another to hold the rim. This is very well machined with no noticeable defects, burrs, or rough edges.
