I hate the reviews that begin by stating that "I have been in construction for 30 years and I know everything" However, I have been in construction for 30+ years but know for a fact I am deficient in a lot of areas. That being said one area I am not deficient in is knowing whether a tool is worthwhile or not. This tool makes using a shop vac with a saw so much more convenient that I am more apt to use a vac with a saw rather than just depending on the usually useless dust bags. I have used one of these outlet devices made by another manufacturer for years. It worked great, but the build of it was not sufficient to stand up to being kept on a work truck and used in the field. In all honesty, having just received it, I cannot speak to the longevity of this device. I can, however, speak reliably on the build. This outlet device has a far superior build to my previous device. The housing is a very rigid ABS plastic as opposed to the flimsy light weight plastic on my former device. Another big advantage, as I see it is that this device has a short heavy gauge power cord to plug it in rather than plugging directly into an outlet as my old one did. This should help alleviate the problem of the device falling out of the outlet. As this particular device I just purchased on Amazon was the same price as the one I paid for several years ago I consider this a no brainer. It just seems to be a very solid unit. If for some reason it does not perform as expected I will return and update this review.

Works great. I use this with my table saw and power miter saw to turn on a connected large shop vac. Automatic off is timed about right. Would be nice to have a manual override feature to allow the vac to run continuously for cleaning up the work area without power tool on. Have cord plug on unit is convenient for using with extension cord and mobility vs other that are designed to plug directly into receptacle.

An inexpensive, effective device for keeping the air cleaner. It gives an impression of professionalism on a job site. So simple, it could be used in an insurance company's commercial. I like the 7 second cut-off delay. When you're on a miter saw and sneaking up on a line, you can adjust your stock and begin the next cut, well within the 7 seconds. This cycles the vacuum less and doesn't blow a 20 Amp breaker. While a thicker-gauge lead cord would be nice, I haven't had an issue with heat. Of course, I don't run the saw and vacuum, continuously. I run 15 Amp saws with a 5 HP, 9 Amp vacuum, cutting 3/4" solid-hardwood flooring (Oak, Hickory, Brazilian Cherry),1" thick stair treads and various trim. Plus, rips on a table saw. Zero problems. Very satisfied.

Pretty certain I'll be mocked for using this this way, but my HVAC controller board stopped working in certain functions. It will allow the blower fan to operate in 'FAN ONLY' and 'HEAT' but not 'AC' mode. So I was skeptical if the board would draw enough power to trigger the vaccuum mode, but it does. 30 watts was the lowest 'ON' that similar boards would allow. This one triggers at 25 watts. Just enough to get the blower to activate when the NEST controller sets 'COOL' mode. Buying a new board (for a now 15 year old unit) would have cost $130. Buying this and making it work cut that cost down to a quarter of that. A fix for now that if I decide to buy a new board later on... I'll revert this back to its original intent.

This works just as well as the “I” switch brand, with a slight increase in start delay...no big deal. 3 big pros for me with this one: 1. Wall mountable with flush mount screw holes (so you can hold it up and screw it in vs. having to measure screw spacing then attach). The other brand plugs straight into a wall socket with no lead cord...harder to mount for a workbench, for example. 2. Cost. Saves more than a few bucks vs other brand. 3. Actuation @ 30W (how much power the tool has to draw for this switch to kick the vacuum on. This is my biggest win. Other brand is 80W. I built an outfeed table with table saw, router station and power strip. The saw and router both run to this switch (using a multi port octopus splitter), so the vacuum will kick on when either tool is in use. My challenge was having a way to use the vacuum, while hooked to this switch, without having to turn on one of the main tools. My fix was hooking up a computer case fan that draws 35watts and hooking it to a rocker switch, then plugging it into one of the octopus ports going to this auto-vacuum switch. I couldn’t do that with the other brand switch. Win for me.
