When my initial lift gate broke, I was quoted a ridiculous offer to fix it. I searched for a metal replacement part, but that was going to run me in the ballpark of $200. After a year of constantly replacing the duct tape holding my lift gate to my car, I finally found this replacement. Look, it's not perfect, but its good, at least. I needed to make two-sih alterations to the product to make it work on my 2005 Model Prius. 1) I needed to cut a small slit on one of the bars to allow the passage of one of the wires. I believe that it was for the actual lift gate button. Not a huge thing. It doesn't affect the stability of the replacement lift gate as a whole and you can't see the alteration once it is installed. 2) The button on the right hand side of the life gate that one would use to lock or unlock the lift gate is molded into the plastic. This took time to drill and dremmel out in the right configuration to allow me to get the previous device into place. I wish that I had take a picture of the fix. It's not perfect as the sensor is secured into position using zip ties, but this is all on the back side of the lift gate with very minimal sign of alteration from the outside. If you know what you are looking for, you'll see it, but otherwise no. Were these two alterations annoying? Sure. But for the price is it really worth complaining. If you are looking for a lift gate replacement and don't mind the fact that one day, yes, you may need to replace it again, then go with this. It's a great price and it's doing the job. My ding on "easy to install" is a 50/50 split between the product and Toyota. Replacing the lift gate is never going to be easy. You have to take the inside panel off and carefully unscrew the previous bits off before replacing with the new one at fairly difficult angles.

Fits as intended. Took spray paint well. Notes: Handle is not reinforced (neither is it on the original). Apparently there are some out there with metal reinforced handles to try to solve this design flaw. Hopefully it will last another 100k miles before failing again. Especially if I'm more gentle in icy cold weather. The dummy lock button bracket cannot substitute for the original lock button bracket. I.e., you can't detach the original button from the original bracket and use it on the dummy bracket. Your choices are: original button + bracket or dummy button + bracket. (In my case the original bracket's screws corroded and fused to the bracket, so even though I could detach the button, there was no way to secure it to the new garnish (the button needs the bracket to push back against, otherwise you just push it into the garnish and it gets lost). I left the original inside/hidden, with the dummy button/bracket in place, and will just use my fob to lock the car from now on. Not a hardship. Comes with the screws you need to attach it, but don't lose the nuts from the original. You'll need a trim pulling tool (or plastic putty knife or similar), a DEEP 10mm socket, and a Phillips screw driver. I think that's it. There are videos on YouTube for how to do it. Lastly, you will need some kind of adhesive if you want to transfer the Toyota medallion to this part. Original is attached via a double sided foam sticker/tape (easy to remove via razor or box cutter). I used E6000 adhesive... so far so good, but haven't been through any crazy temperature extremes yet. This garnish has the two holes perfectly placed for the medallion's alignment pins.

Last winter when it was like 10 degrees below zero, I was at the back of my Prius…..and just ripped off the whole lift back handle!!! I knew this was a common thing since 2 guys I work with did the same thing. We I drove around the rest of winter with silver tape sort of holding it all together. My wife was really giving me a hard time reminding me how bad it looked. It was still super cold, and I didn’t feel like freezing my butt off fixing it outside. Well , spring finally showed up and I ordered the part. It took longer to take off everything from the broken piece. This new part went on super easy, and fit perfectly!! It really is a great product, and my wife approves!! I can’t even guess how much money I saved.

Like so many other Prius owners, my rear liftgate garnish broke. It was 10 years old and maybe just dried out. The screws were broken. This piece looks exactly like the original, except it is primed not painted. The hardest part was removing the old rusted parts to put onto this new piece. Once everything was ready, it fit perfectly. The black looks ok to me so I'm leaving it as is. Replacing the old piece is a bit of fiddly work but not technically difficult. There are lots of videos showing how. I am satisfied with the delivery and the product. It save me a few hundred dollars.
