I normally dehydrate my own apples for my oatmeal but no time to restock so I decided to try these. Upon opening the can l was pleased to see the pieces are broken up. Even if they came in whole slices or circles, they are very crunchy and can be broken up by hand. The flavor seemed fresh and the texture upon rehydration was rubbery, (as expected since my own dehydrated apples are that way as well), but easy to chew. The container doesn’t mention what variety of apple is used, but they are very sweet to me…l generally go for a tart apple like Granny Smith. Knowing this, I just won’t add as many to the oatmeal.     • Augason's cans are usually full, these are 1/2 full.
First off, these taste good and in my opinion are a great healthy snack. Augason does a good job and knows what they're doing. It's a little disappointing to open the can and find it half empty though. We've ordered many cans of their dried bananas and those cans arrive full to the brim. These are 25% decent dried apple slices, and 75% chips about twice the size of an average thumb nail. To me, I don't need perfect apple slices so it's no big deal. I also love that these can store unopened for 25 years. Augason knows how to provide max value max quality in long term storable food. We'll be re purchasing this item. ... show more

They taste good. Not quite what I thought they would be but that's on me for my expectations. The one part I was not thrilled with is that it's a really big can and the really big can is only full halfway which means they could easily use a smaller can that would take up less space I'm not upset about how much is in the can I'm just upset about why give me a can that's twice as big as what it needs to be ... show more

    • Failed to see these are DEHYDRATED apples and NOT freeze dried. Mostly great but 'a few bad apples.'
It's definitely my fault for failing to read that these apples are DEHYDRATED and NOT freeze dried as I was originally searching for. That being said I will say probably 90% of the apples have a nice snappy crunch to them, similar to freeze dried fruits. However, the other 10% of apples are chewy and difficult to break apart with your teeth. On top of that, some of the pieces have a rotten flavor, as if they were a little too past their expiration date at the time of dehydration. The piece sizes range from full slice to microscopic particle so be forewarned about that. For the price point it's a good buy but I might shop around for other brands or look for specifically freeze dried apples before buying this again. ... show more

Sad these dont live up to the hype of the strawberries. I eat the same brand of strawberries instead of candy, order them religiously. Tried a small bag of freeze dried apple slices from Walmart -- LOVED them, so decided to buy from the same brand I get my strawberry slices from. Idk if its just this batch but they aren't crisp, rather chewy. Taste is there but I will be buying my apple crisps from the store from now on. Very sad - I LOVE this brand, I really do. But the apples aren't it 😭😭 ... show more

You can't go wrong with this brand. I love that I know that no matter what I buy from them that it will be a quality product and packaged for longevity. Having a well prepared pantry is important to me and this is my go-to brand at a reasonable price. I love that I can buy this in bulk and leave it knowing that it is packaged to last. Open the can and snack away or add these to your favorite recipes. These are super yummy. You get a lot of product for the price. Don't let the weight of the can fool you. I like that this is not a chemical nightmare. I try to have item on hand for in the event of an emergency. I look for items that are packaged well, travel well, don't require a lot of additional ingredients, are flexible for how they are used, and will act as comfort food. This fits the bill.
