  • Do Not Buy This Because…
Do not buy this, unless you are looking for a masterpiece that you can just drop the needle and listen to it all the way through. My only problem was that I had get up to flip the record and do it all over again. Real problems we all have to deal with at some point in life.

  • blues wisdom + heavy rock passion = lush mature rock
This is a terrific album. Chris Cornell has got one of the best voices in rock today, Tom Morello on guitar is full of energy and creative but classic riffs, and Wilk and Commerford on drums and bass make sure you will be banging your head long after your neck muscles have given out. There are times when Cornell's voice sounds like an instrument, and the synergy of these four guys is heavy and gorgeous. I'd say this strong vocal-guitar duo with blues-based rock and strong beats is quite reminiscent of the classic Led Zeppelin dynamic. Production gives the group a full sound with a garage echo. Cover art is by Storm Thorgerson, who has done work for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Booklet includes lyrics. Usually when I buy a new album I upload 3 to 5 songs to my computer -- from this album I ripped 10 of 14 songs. My favorites are Show Me How to Live, What You Are, Gasoline, Bring Em Back Alive and The Last Remaining Light. As well as having excellent vocals and playing, the lyrics are interesting and mature -- not just of the "gotta have you, baby" variety. Shadow of the Sun starts out over a subdued and lyrical guitar lick, "Once upon a time/I was of a mind/to lay your burden down." What lovely phrasing. And how can you hear "Now you've found another slave/Now I'm free from what you want/Now I'm free from what you need/Now I'm free from what you are" (from What You Are) and not think this is rock at its very best? I think this album will stand the test of time. I've been listening to it over and over for weeks, and it always makes me want to move and sing along and bang my head against a wall. Isn't that what rock is supposed to do? Awesome, passionate rock. ... show more

  • Second copy, first one had issues - this vinyl has good audio quality, album artwork is meh
The first copy I got had some weird distortion during the high vocal points of the music, which is very odd. Luckily it wasn't an issue with the master and the second copy I got sounds excellent and doesn't have the distortion issue. The album and artwork is kind of "meh"... it's decent but I was expecting more considering the popularity of this album. It is still an enjoyable listen though so I'm happy it is in my collection. ... show more

  • Great album
This album has 14 tracks, from which 13 are big hits to me. I have never seen an album, be it rock, metal or whatever genre with so many excellent songs packed together. It feels more like a "best of" album - however this was the first release of Audioslave...
