  • Fast and Affordable
Style: 144Hz G-SYNC compatible
Hi. I've been building gaming PCs for almost 20 years. I'm an old, salty, experienced tech, and I'd like to tell you about the ASUS VG278Q. This is a great display for any GAMER looking for a large, fast, 1080p, 144hz display. As you can see from my review photos, I also own the ASUS VG245H, so my review can apply to both displays. I purchased the VG245H to be my PS4 Pro/PC display. It has worked great for both the PS4 Pro and my PC for almost a year now, without issue. After building a new gaming PC for myself, I decided to go with the VG245H's bigger brother. The difference between the two is the size of screen and most importantly, the refresh rate. The VG245H is a 24" display and features a 75hz refresh rate, while the VG278Q is a 27" display featuring a 144hz refresh rate. Both of these displays have a TN panel. If you are just a casual gamer and you like to do a lot of photo and video editing on the side, you might want to look at an IPS or VA panel. These TN panels don't have the greatest color or contrast, but they feature some of the fastest G2G response times available. So, if you're a gamer with a competitive nature, these are monitors that you should strongly consider. Try not to pay much too much attention to the reviews claiming that these displays are great for gaming but terrible for everything else. These displays can be tuned and calibrated for a great "all-around" computing experience; via the monitor's OSD, and your GPU's control panel. While they will never be as vivid as an IPS or VA panel, they can still be good for day to day computing. So take a little time to dial them in before giving in to the idea that these display are "washed out" with "poor color reproduction". Pro tip: Make sure that the RGB range is set to FULL and not LIMITED in your GPU's control panel. Both displays come with the same sturdy, ergonomic stand. Who should buy these? Anyone looking for a fast, reliable, and affordable display. Serious gamers who value speed over contrast and color accuracy. Who shouldn't buy these? Anyone looking for rich, saturated colors and life-like reproduction of movies and photos. So it all boils down to what is most important to you. If fast and furious is what you are going for, this is the monitor for you. If eye candy and features are more important, then you should look elsewhere...and be prepared to spend more. ... show more

  • All of the sudden it became G-Sync compatible.
Style: 144Hz G-SYNC compatible
I've been using this monitor since August. It's been great so far. Amazing picture quality in games, and great framerates with the 144hz. Also looks solid on videos and internet browsing. I could write a longer review about all that, but that isn't the point of this review. A couple of days ago (Mid January 2019) I got a graphics card update for my Nvidia gtx 1080. After the update a notification popped up that my monitor was G-Sync compatible and that I could activate it in Nvidia control panel. Sure enough it was now G-Sync compatible and even indicated in game that G-Sync was activated when I had the indicator toggled on. So this monitor is advertised as Free sync/Adaptive sync, but apparently also is now magically G-Sync compatible as well. They should probably change their product title. *Edit June 2019* Looks like Amazon has changed the description of this product to reflect that the monitor is in fact G-sync compatible after the GTX driver update back in January. Been almost a year since I've gotten it, and still very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Perfect combo of specs and quality, finally an IPS 27'' 1080p 144hz monitor!!!
Style: 144Hz FreeSync Height adjustable
I have been waiting for an IPS 27'' 1080p 144hz monitor for a while. I have no desire to go past 1080p for gaming purposes, but I wanted the size and refresh rate of the 27'' and 144hz. This display is beautiful using the IPS panel. I have tried 4 other monitors that I returned because they were the crappy washed out TN panels. Nothing compares to IPS. As a gamer, 1080p allows you to max out every setting there is on the game with a mid range GPU (I am using a Radeon RX580 8gb) and still get high FPS. For anyone worried that text or images look blown up or pixelated, dont be, if you have the monitor at the appropriate distance from your face then you wont notice this. Pros: -IPS Panel colors and visual look cannot be touched by any TN gaming panel -27" at 1080p with 144hz Freesync, perfect for my preference of resolution -3ms response time on an IPS, anything under 5ms is perfectly fine for gaming, unless you are some pro playing First Person Shooters at QuakeCon -Stand is sturdy, goes up and down, and can twist the monitor if you really want that Cons: -Maybe the sound? But what person that is buying this monitor is actually using it for their main sound source? Calibration tips (my personal preference): Check out the vivid pixel settings, I really want a bit more pixel definition on the monitor and when i discovered this setting, I set it to 50 and it fixed everything Brightness: 70 Contrast 75: Color Temp: User Red-92 Green-92 Blue-90 Smart View: Off Vivid Pixel: 50 ... show more

  • Return/poor picture quality
Style: 144Hz G-SYNC compatible
First week the picture quality and gaming experience was excellent. Video started to degrade after shut down/restart. Menu...factory reset was locked off. In order to reset had to unplug all cables than hold on/off button for one minute. On advice from factory support...answered e-mails promptly...no complaint. Sometimes had to do this two to three times in order for monitor to reset. Stuck in shampoo cycle...rinse repeat. Great picture quality until computer shut down/restart or turning monitor on/off then repeat... Still w/in 30day return. Last e-mail informed support I was returning. I really like this monitor and requested a replacement. Amazon was unable to replace and refunded money. Asus is a fine product line. In any product line a small percentage will have quality issues. ... show more
